| AbiWord and Gnumeric are capable office applications (not much to compare in the world of Amiga ) and work reasonably well and fast on Pegasos2. So I decided to use them as default applications for doc/docx/xls/xlsx/ods etc. I was able to force AmiCygnix to use Amiga paths (via the supplied utility and some older script for that purpose from Edgar Schwan: thread on Amigans.net) - I can open my document from Shell, if I write full path to it. However, using plain FILE (in brakets) as in the script only opens eg. AbiWord without loading the file. Is there any way to solve this (eg. get full path to a file and use it in such script for DefIcon)?

Does the script work if you are in the drawer where the document is, and you type full path to the script and with file as argument? And does the file have spaces in its filename perhaps? _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

To be honest I do not use DefIcons and do not know much about it. But here is an example that works with Amiga icon files:
So there is an ASCII file detected as a "doc" file, the full path of the launch script as the default tool and selected "launch through shell". _________________ X-5000 PPC 5020/2 GHZ, Fractal Define XL R2-Tower, OS 4.1 final update 2, 4 GB, Radeon HD 7770, ESI Juli@ XTe SAM 460ex/1,15 GHZ, OS 4.1 final, 2 GB, Radeon HD 6450 Amiga 4000D/040 25 Mhz, OS 3.9 BB2, 272 MB, X-Surf, 250 MB ZIP |

Thanks! Of course you are right and I'm chasing ghosts. I was somewhat perplexed, when I saw configuration window (I set it not to show again), so I thought something is wrong. Btw, is there some way to return that configuration window back (myX11SetupLight) to try other settings? |

There is only one (not comfortable) way to get back the settings window. For example if you need to get back the settings of Gnumeric, go to the directory "Cygnix:Software/Gnumeric-1.10.17" with your file manager and delete the file "gnumeric-1.10.17-settings". I know, there should be a better way _________________ X-5000 PPC 5020/2 GHZ, Fractal Define XL R2-Tower, OS 4.1 final update 2, 4 GB, Radeon HD 7770, ESI Juli@ XTe SAM 460ex/1,15 GHZ, OS 4.1 final, 2 GB, Radeon HD 6450 Amiga 4000D/040 25 Mhz, OS 3.9 BB2, 272 MB, X-Surf, 250 MB ZIP |

Thanks again. I somewhat expected it could be like this. Easy enough. |

| Interesting addition. Settings file is created in the directory of a file I opened via DefIcons (when settings window opened I changed settings and saved).
Additional question: How to setup default screen mode in the standalone batch script? I can change display driver (eg. customscreendb2), but screen mode defaults to PAL 640x480 Lowres (which of course would not work). Last edited by pavlor on 21-May-2022 at 08:41 AM.

When you switch to a curstomscreen driver like "custemscreendb2", the default mode is always "PAL 640x480". I cannot say exactly why, the program "myX11SetupLight" is not written by me.
Of course you can change it by selecting the screenmode button (I think you guessed it ) and saving the setting afterwards:

Yes, but when using DefIcons, saving creates a new settings file in the directory of the opened file. |

Ah O.K., I understand. Basically this behaviour is wanted, so you can have different settings with different documents.
If you want to have a global setting, I suggest to add the line "Cd Cygnix:Software/Abiword-2.8" to the script "Start_AbiWord_Standalone.bat":
; ; $VER: Start_AbiWord_Standalone.bat 4.6 (31.03.2020) © Edgar Schwan ;
.key VERBOSE/K,DISPLAYNUMBER/K,ARGS/M .def VERBOSE 0 .def DISPLAYNUMBER -1 .bra { .ket }
Cd Cygnix:Software/Abiword-2.8 ...
Of course you can choose any other directory.
Unfortunately this will be removed, if you update or reinstall AbiWord.

Well, this loads settings in the AbiWord directory, but not the desired document via DefIcons (opens new blank page). |

Sorry, didn't try this. Here is an other solution:
... If EXISTS "Cygnix:myX11SetupLight" PushCd Cygnix:Software/Abiword-2.8 Cygnix:myX11SetupLight PopCD If ${DONOTSTART} EQ "YES" Quit 20 EndIf Else ...
Not beautiful, but works. _________________ X-5000 PPC 5020/2 GHZ, Fractal Define XL R2-Tower, OS 4.1 final update 2, 4 GB, Radeon HD 7770, ESI Juli@ XTe SAM 460ex/1,15 GHZ, OS 4.1 final, 2 GB, Radeon HD 6450 Amiga 4000D/040 25 Mhz, OS 3.9 BB2, 272 MB, X-Surf, 250 MB ZIP |
