Porting to cheap existing hardware, or teaming up with other parties interested in creating ppc hardware outside the Amiga circle (larger numbers can be produced, ergo prices could be reduced) could only be good for the platform.
Not only does it lower the price of admission, but it creates a larger pool of people capable of running the system, more potential developers, more recognition outside the usual circle, and so on and so forth.

What it doesn't do however is feed egomaniacs or narcissists need for attention, which would kill their desire to be involved.

The right words at the wrong time, unluckily. This should have been accomplished when PPC processors still had a momentum.

You know Hyperion could make more money from the emulation scene, making their own Amiga Forever like package, Cloanto made all its money from that after all.

A500 mini proves how much money can be made, no idea on the contract terms but let just say Retro Games ltd paid £1 for Rom license for each A500mini made, I think the highest Serial number is around 60,000, so their £60,000 for no work on your part. These are very conservative numbers I likely bet the deal was worth more than that. Plus that just one license agreement, when you think about other partnerships, like Ant Stream, the 100,000+ sales Google play App reports for its Rom Pack on the Android store, then the Amiga Forever sales, you can see their quite a good little business model here.

If they made a dedicated OS4 UAE product with some improvements I would get it! Just a thought.

@Amiga4000

As you know it was done already. In an old OS4.0 demo version. Then something was stolen, by perhaps an anti OS4 mole, which put a halt to that. But, I checked and your post is from 2022, so how would a Mac Mini port be A Killin? It's old and obscure PPC hardware now. So less useful now than 15 years ago. And OS4 doesn't target old hardware. Suppose the OS4 boards are like NOS made this century.

@amigang

Number of units produced doesn’t mean number sold.

@amigang

My main laptop is a PC and is on most of the time I am home.

I also have a nice laptop that boots straight into OS4 using UAE and Amiga Forever. Nice machine it is too.

I also have a couple of PowerBooks running various versions of MorphOS.

Also my main laptop has a version of AmiKit installed which I use quite often.

All the above machines get a lot or some attention, the only machines I don't use are my so called Amigas, I have an AmigaOne and a couple of Sams which don't get touched.

This to me shows that if nothing else hardware that most state as Amiga is the hardware I use the least

@1Mouse

I think Commodore offrered a trade in offer for older 8-bit machines to buy a C64 for a reduced amount! The Z80 based machine became actual door stops at C= HQ! Maybe the AmigaOnes could be used in the same way!

Trade in a Sam and get THEA500 Mini or Vampire V4 SA!

Understood, but it depends on the agreement Cloanto and retro game ltd went into, if I was Cloanto I would likly go with a £1 fee (or more) on all produce A500mini weather they sell or not, clonato in that deal gets paid per rom license and it doesn’t matter weather the product is successful or not, you just got yourself a nice pay pad.

Now another type of deal could be a small % of each sale, which require a deeper partnership where disclosures of Financial info on sales etc. are required and then your betting on the success of the product for your pay day.

Any way I do wonder would Hyperion get away with licensing their Os3.2 roms to a A1200mini product.

No, you want the "Packed Versus Planar: FIGHT" thread. Fight!

... but beyond the need for it to continue for the Tabor to launch, and the fact it's nice to have the official AmigaOS branding (that can't continue currently with System 54 anyway) what can you do on AmigaOS PPC that you can't on MorphOS?

You can run CIAgent. Audio Evolution. And OctaMED. Oh, wait, thanks to my OctaMEDIC patch and The Maestrix 2 Reloaded, OctaMED now works on MOS. But, it's still not perfect, so runs on OS4 better!

Toot toot. Toot toot. Opps sorry that was my horn.

My point was that funding Hyperion (enabled by fanatics working on the code for free) drags out the court case and hence slows development because of legal uncertainty.

I think you've got it wrong here. The fanatics are the ones that bought it!

Don't know what to call the developers.
