Right now, Pegasos 2 in my possession uses good old HP1902 19" TFT (purchased back in the mid 2000s for one of our PCs, then served my A1200) with 1280x1024 native resolution. Works really well even via plain VGA output - classic 4:3 resolutions (640x480, 800x600) look good with minimal distortion and this monitor even supports almost-native 320x256 screen resolution (perfect for E-UAE or DOSBox). However, I'm sure I have use for even bigger screen (eg. 1920x1080), so I wonder would any new monitor work at least as good as this one?

Pegasos 2 in question has Radeon 9250 with both VGA and DVI output.

My concerns are as follows:
1) Are new monitors able to retain 4:3 aspect ratio with old resolutions (like my cheap notebook does), or I can expect stretched image?
2) Are there any issues with low resolutions (eg. 320x200)? (most emulators support some sort of scaling, so this problem is not that important)
3) Are there any differences between old Radeon 9250 I use and newer PCIe cards in respect to the two above questions?

Thanks for your answers!

1) MSI G series (and probably other series) monitors allow you to select between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios or set it to change automaically from the on screen menu. It's worth checking manuals online before purchasing if this is important to you.

2) Most LCD screen won't display modes below 640x480.

3) PCIe cards don't work with the Pegasos 2 due to BIOS limitations so it not worth consideration in your case.

@pavlor

I've yet to find an lcd or plasma screen that can't have screen modes of 320x200 and 320x256 created in 4:3 aspect ratio, and I've tried dozens.
The "trick" however is the need for half decent drivers.
MOS or OS4 struggle, Amithlon doesn't.
