| Since we are now 6 months out from December and assuming the 'Early Adopters' ger their machines by then, is 2 years on from the initial offer a reasonable time frame for delivery of the A1222 Plus?
http://www.a1222plus.com/
Correction: It will be almost 3 years come December as A1222 Plus pre-order slots were sold out in January 2020! It will be 2 years since an official website update if no further news is posted before then!
Is still think they'll be more said in the Vultures to Vampires Vol 2 book than in 'normal channels' but it really is a perplexing state of affairs! Last edited by BigD on 07-Jun-2022 at 12:38 AM. Last edited by BigD on 07-Jun-2022 at 12:35 AM. Last edited by BigD on 07-Jun-2022 at 12:35 AM.

The A1222 was announced in 2015. Since then, all official Linux support has been cancelled, the official GCC has stopped supporting it, and the motherboard had to be re-designed because of components becoming obsolete while waiting for an eventual release. That might happen *again* before this is over. And remember that its CPU was very weak even by 2015 standards, it was weak even by "AmigaOne" standards, it was a sideway movement at best performance wise from previous generations of AmigaOne's (if not backwards), and its crippled CPU with instructions overlapping the standard instructions in *normal* PPC CPU's doesn't help. Proclaimed to be a "low cost" board, but this doesn't stop its price from being ridiculous, and its poor price/performance ratio to be laughable.
From the very start, the A1222 as was a completely impossible product. Still pursuing it today, in 2022, would be insane. Doesn't make any sense at all... |

Come 2023, if they were giving them away for free, I can't say that I would bother getting one. _________________ All the way, with 68k |

Wings! Remastered was due but never fully released for AmigaOne machines but you can bet when it finally is released it'll be closer to £30 than £1.50 as per the PC during sales! _________________ "Art challenges technology. I do not know more than anyone else here so just guessing....
the market has changed a lot in the last years. Prices for electronic components have risen considerably. They made the strange "show interest" with selling the software/hardware bundle and guaranteed the about 100 buyers a fixed price. That was certainly calculated on the base of the component prices at that time. I would guess that they now would have a problem to sell it at that price without making losses with every sale. But that is only a personal guess |

PPC Macs are certainly not a solution for all time... somewhen the last ones will die. But it at least made more sense than doing custom hardware that is not offering much more but totally overprized. |

| Well for the Amiga world it nothing that new, I remember when the X1000 was first announced it said 2010. But it wasn't for another 2 years, 2012 that I got mine, and that's without the crazy times we live in now, Cornavirus, the new work / life balance people want, chip shortage, and WW3 on the horizon
its a shame and I'm sure its as frustrating for the people developing it as it is for the people waiting for it.
I think the bigger problem now is back when it was originally due there was a lot of excitement / interest for a finally a low cost entry to OS4, off the back of Amiga big 30th events, 2015, and X1000 / X5000 had stabilised and infused the market with some much needed activity, but over the last few years I feel that interest has waned somewhat . Fastest PowerMac G5s are too slow for some of the current webpages (under Wayfarer). Any machine slower than G5 (or X5000/40) will only frustrate buyers.
(clicking on icons and checking new shell tools from os4depot can be done under WinUAE/AmigaOS4.1FE, i'm talking about real work). |

Yeah like Blender rendering and using ImageFX presumably? Since SMP still isn't a thing I can't really see that you miss out beyond that. This is especially true bearing in mind that the killer app of AmigaOS 4.x is still 'the OS itself' rather than any specific hyper useful software it seems!
I think the A1222 Plus is plenty powerful for AmigaOS tinkering and rediscovering what a joy selecting 'show all files' and snapshoting windows is in 2022!
Well that and the odd blast of Tower57 and the soon to be released Wings! Remastered. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |
