People should of course in general be treated on the quality of their character. When it comes to work it should be the right person for the job.
Seems pretty straight forward to me.

Unfortunately there's a narrative in western nations in recent times that goes against that where it's deemed bigoted, or close minded simply for not adhering to "quotas". It's freaking insane.

Terrible or unsuited for a job?
No problem, just feign an ideology or "identity" and scream about being oppressed.

And this is a lesson our younger generations are being taught.

The world is broken beyond repair.

@Amiga4000

I'd have let them walk out and told them not to bother returning to the workplace.

I assume this is considered 'news' because it's June?! I vote for reclaiming June as month for looking forward to summer holidays rather than being 'proud' of what you do with your sexual organs

"Gender based rights"

In an age where you can't define gender, what does this even mean?

At this point it would be news if a creative sector company focused on their key products rather than spouting liberal worldview bias on Twitter. It would also be refreshing if their employees knuckled down to work and kept their politics out of the workplace! Heaven forbid if bedroom antics had to remain in people's bedrooms in 2022!

Ah, amiga friends!

Ah those times when a man was a man, woman was a woman, a faggot was a faggot and we could all amicably joke about it at the old pub & on the cathode ray tube telly. And dykes, of course, just did not officially exist except in ancient Greece.

Bedroom and workplace were parsecs away, and things just made sense.
And yes, yes my dearest amongst all friends, someone might have felt a little bit frustrated, a little bit made fun of, but never persecuted or in danger.

Because, GUESS WHAT, those jokes, that mild fun, was the mean of venting the discomfort - DISCOMFORT, NOT PHOBIA - that we all feel when faced with something alien to our habits and beliefs.

Ah, THOSE TIMES!!!! How I pine for them.
And they'll eventually be back.

We just need to reach the tipping point, the LGBQTXHRFetc. thing to consume all letters of the alphabet, Russia to nuke Ukraine, AmigaOS 3.2 to be ported to Apple Silicon, Trevor to repent and join a monastery.

AH THOSE TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One extreme or the other, nothing in between?

Spare me your alarms. As someone that on the regular interviews new candidates for a role, I wish it were as simple as some would make it out to be.

The "job" is not as simply or easily defined. Flush the image of Charlie Chaplin's 'Modern Times' from your minds. Work changes over time and so do people. What the job is today is not necessarily what it is tomorrow. Selecting personnel is a nuanced activity, and we only have several interview sessions to try and get it right.

Some companies expand their selection criteria to include diversity targets, but they still pick the best of the candidates that match their expanded criteria. One criteria does not trump all the others.

It's really not that hard to live in this new world, if you'd just get out of your own way.

And maybe we should have our own "Amiga Drag Queen Hour" YT channel.
That would hyper-stimulate OS4 sales!
New logo idea... rainbow filled boing bag!

Problem is... the psychos never stop pushing....

Don't be a goose and quit it with the hyperbole.
It's not rocket science to understand that when hiring an applicant a person needs to consider the flexibility a role may entail.
"Right person for the job" absolutely applies.
Anyone who "regular(ly) interviews new candidates for a role" should know that inside out.

Also:

Err,... "privilege"?
Given your suggestion being self focused is the same thing as "privilege" Im not convinced you understand the meaning of the word.
Or are you just drawn to using cliches?

Oh spare me from whiny, old so called “conservative” (conserve what? Reactionary more like it) grumpy old men… so you feel “uncomfortable” about all the focus on people who through history, and even today, have been prosecuted, ousted, jailed, tortured, killed. And what you come up with here is essentially “they take our jobs”?! It’s like watching an old South Park episode.

@kolla

There is no us and them. I don't live in the 'heterosexual community' just as there is no such thing as a trans or homosexual 'community'. Humans simply are not defined by these impulses to act on sexual attraction! We are all the same but some people think it's acceptable to bring their sex life into a job interview and their work whereas it's obvious that it should be irrelevant. Extra hand holding is not required here!

P.S. A rainbow is made up of seven colours (not 6) and signifies the promise of God that He will never flood the entire world again. It's bizarre how Danny La Rue wannabes forget that! Also, I guess taking part in a drag race is now something people 'proudly' put on a CV?! Gotta love the people but that's a weird hobby IMHO.

You do live in the heterosexual community because someone that defines themselves as living in a non heterosexual one says so. I recently found out I was "cisgender". Imagine, I had no idea.

Me quit? You were the one who suggested that an unsuitable candidate can be hired simply if they kick up enough of a fuss regarding their ideology or identity.

Quote:
Err,... "privilege"?

Yes, privilege. One can be privileged without even being aware of it. It manifests as ignorance of others that don't share the same privilege.

The majority of the anglosphere, the western hemisphere, and the world's population resides in the northern hemisphere, and for the most part share the same seasonal calendar.

@BigD suggesting that something that is celebrating inclusivity should give way to something that only the northern hemisphere can appreciate is a suggestion ignoring that a fair amount of us live in the southern hemisphere, with opposite seasons. He is speaking from a privileged position of living, possibly born and brought up in, one of the bastions of modern western, anglo-centric, northern hemisphere world views.

Then there's also those who do not have to good fortune to experience the concept of "summer holidays", which in no small part can in most cases be traced back to actions of the British Empire, and their colonial exploitation over 300+ years, all of which he benefits from today.

Conservative views as expressed by those from the western hemisphere are a luxury, and can only arise out of privilege.

It's a bit hypocritical to play the British Empire colonial era exploitation privilege card on someone when you yourself live in Melbourne which is the product of the exact same British Empire colonial era exploitation.

Just saying.
