| I've been given a load of retro computer stuff by a friend to sort out and sell, including a BBC Micro and an Amiga A600.
I've been working on the BBC, and about to look at the Amiga.
I know with the BBC there are some suspect caps in the PSU that need replacing before you power on, if it's been a long time (which i've done) - is it a similar story with the Amiga?
It hasn't been powered on for probably 20+ years - and I'm not at all familiar with Amigas - i played a few games on a mates one years ago, but that's about it!
I noticed a Commodore PSU brick amongst all the stuff, so assume this is the external power supply?
Also how do I get output? Can it be plugged into a modern monitor via VGA?
What should I expect to see if it's working OK?
Thanks in advance for your help |

Caps are an issue with Amigas as well, not just PSU but on the motherboard as well. May I suggest you'll have a look at the great work of Chris Edwards on Youtube? He has tons of repair videos for Amigas, among those also A600s.
For video, if you've got a TV with SCART you could use an Amiga RGB to SCART cable or, if just for testing purposes, you might try the composite out _________________ Back home... |

If your VGA monitor scans down to 15 KHz, then you could use a RGB-to-VGA cable. Quote:

If it only has a disk drive, you should see a screen that asks for a Workbench disk. If it has a hard drive, it should boot to the Workbench desktop.
