So at the recent NWAG meeting David Pleasance (Former Commodore UK Boss) purpose a new project.

Commodore Amiga Global Alliance (CAGA)

The main goal would be a central website for all Amiga community's, to try and bring them together more, raise the profile of groups, projects and meetings that happen in the community.

Raise founds for above groups / projects that the founding members think require it

Have a "War Chest" fund for bigger projects and goals (example given was getting a Commodore Movie made)

Sponsor Events and Advertise CAGA backed projects.

Use of the site would be free and most business and groups would get listed for free

But you could become a CAGA Supporter, this would be

Annual Subscription of £30, for the first year signing up you get digital copies of Commodore inside story, Amiga alive and kicking Documentary, Vivi Amiga Remix Documentary, everybody girlfriend music, C64 game Cosmic Force, and Discount to future products (likely Vampire Books as a example say in the following year)

Slight more for business to be become a member

What you get for that money, is the free stuff listed above, vote on where the money should go, inside info on project that CAGA supports and possible Discounts to future products or shows that CAGA sponsor.

So I think its not a bad idea and if you haven't got the stuff listed in the first year of goodies its a bargain.

I Personally think i would definitely sign up for the first year, see how it goes and what it achieves would be the deciding factor of weather or not Id back it for another year but sounds like a pretty good idea and its basically trying to cut out Patreon / Kickstarter / Eventbrite that all take a pretty big cut and instead of these platform having that, make the money go further for Amiga projects basically.

@amigang

I'm committed to my local Amiga Group. Big grand gesture projects I'm less keen about. David's Vultures to Vampire project is sucking up funds like there is no tomorrow. I'm not surprised that he now thinks a subscription model is the way forward to make Amiga Media etc! What we really need is software development though. The AMiNIMiga and Pandory teams are amazing on THEA500 Mini just asking for beer moey and it's great fun to be involved on Discord with that crew. The general Amiga malaise is less fun if I'm honest and that includes writing about Vampire boards and AmigaOnes which always seem unavailable and expensive IMHO!

If memories of my youthful adventures and romance in the land of the Boot don't fail me,
"CAGA" in Italian means "He shits".

Excellent start!

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

I think you'll find it's Spanish but that is even more suitable as Amiga is Spanish for girlfriend!

Perhaps It should be Amiga CAGA or my girlfriend defecates! Inspiring and well worth £30 a year!

@amigang

I am sceptical... people already have their favorites and directly support the platform

why should I (or anyone else) give money in a big fund. Who decides what will be supported with it based on which criterias?

Just a central website? I do not see the big benefit. But perhaps informations are still missing

Sorry I may not of made it clear, its not just to get Amiga media made, all project could be backed, from software to hardware projects.

I actually kind of agree, for this to really work I think it has to be transparent as Amiga community have been burnt before, and some more details needs to be worked out, which i guess it will be when/if the project go live, I think David to be fair to him ask the room if we thought this was a good idea and is asking for feedback which I think he might start getting, this very thread might help him I thought. It very early days of the project.

Plus also your getting about £50+ worth of stuff for £30 while knowing that money might help a Amiga project. I get it if you already own most of the freebie or just not interested in them, then it less of a deal.

Well, obviously money needs to flow into David Pleasance's pockets. How else would you achieve that?

My first thought was the $50 coupon scheme from many years ago.

Yes, this doesn't sit well with me. It doesn't have any of the spirit of THEA500 Mini scene or home brew Alien Breed 3D 2 modding scene and seems all about applying a subscription type model to a small Amiga hobby that can't sustain it!

@all

Bad Idea I have a better one, wait with humility until everybody is in it`s coffin and Amiga
is finally forgotten by everyone and nobody knows why Computers have Colors and Sound!

And Apple claims to have invented the Multimedia Computer and all Commodore and

Amiga related Wikipedia Sites are deleted because the truth is embarrassing!

google on Multimedia Computer

wikipedia on Multimedia Computer

There is no such diversity with Computers as with Cars or Planes. There are much more
different Car Brands and Plane Models than with Computers. Conspiracy Theory: Computers were inspired by Vulcans to test average human Intelligence and the Vulcans found out
average Humans are dumb as shit with Logics! and inventing revolutionary Computer
Technologies! hahahahahahaha Humans invest much more Energy in Lazyness than Intelligence And The Klingons are disgusted what douchebags the humans are! while most
people use their Computers to produce or watch Porn!

douchebag Klingon

real Klingon

Doesn't the name "CAGA" remind you all nimrods about some other money-grabbing scheme, too?

@amigang

I don't mind David Pleasance. He was always very good at sales, and I was rooting for his bid during the Commodore post-bankruptcy sell-off. But I do think this CAGA idea, branding aside, is a bad one for Amiga in 2022.

What problems is it actually trying to solve, and does the planned execution of the idea have a chance at solving those problems?

I sense there are elements of nostalgia and other emotions in the mix. I have already paid that bill, several times over. If on the other hand he was to try and rally a movement behind a singular initiative and path for the future, like in 1994, then I would even consider paying £30 per month.

I'm no longer interested in good-intentioned half-measures at celebrating the fractured diversity which is the Amiga landscape of the early 21C. Amigans, old and older, can be united, but the various 'Amiga' projects cannot be unified. It is time to bank on one that has a path forward (not A-Eon PPC-based HW / AmigaOS 4.x), and give that the best shot our community can muster.

The only way David can forge a path is in partnership with Mike Battilana and Trevor Dickinson and preferably also the MorphOS, AROS and Apollo Team. I would also have discussions with RGL about THEA500 Maxi and with Stephen Jones and the PiStorm designer. If they were all in agreement maybe David could be a spokesman however the others are the ideas men/IP holders and they need to unite first.
