Why doesn't MacHandler switch to the Resources HDF very easily and why doesn't Photoshop 5 open Jpegs?

Keep running out of space using the System HDF hardfile to transfer data!

Also, I'm trying PICT file format instead. This is a faff though! I thought that Photoshop was the Dog's knackers! I prefer Photogenics 5 to Photoshop 4!

Seriously this transfer thing on Shapeshifter is a bit of a hot mess! Not all files get shown and some folder even disappear from view on the Amiga side!

...the upside is that Photogenics converted PICT files DO work....AS DO IFFs!!!

Awesome! No faffing with conversions then!

@BigD

I have Basilisk...Can someone point me to the right direction to for example install MacOS 9?

It will be a remarkable goal for my desired emulator's endeavor.

Thank you

I love MacOS on my Amiga!!!

Cammy's post is a great start IMHO. Good luck!

I'm loving Theme Park (the way it was supposed to be), Photoshop 4, Full Throttle and The Settlers 2.

... transferring files to and from Mac to Amiga and back - less fun.

...and I can't get Dark Forces to work beyond the intro!

Going back to the JPG opening error in PhotoShop 4:

"jpg marker segment too short"

What does that mean?

Looks the Mac played silly buggers with JPGS back in the day. A thread from 1996:

Quote:
1. jpeg sent email don't open on PC

My PC friends can't open my jpeg files! I scan in Photoshop 3.0 and save as .jpg and send via Eudora. All of my Mac friends can get the pictures but the PC owners get "JPEG marker segment too short again..." error message if they get any message at all. I have a PowerMac and I am scanning small color files with a Color PageWiz. Tiff, Giff, or other file types don't seem to work either.
JOY

No satisfactory answer given!

...but more importantly...

How do I get MacHandler to mount my second HDF with the games and utilities on and not the MacOS one?

What I've got working is better than burning my files to a CD-R which was my old way of getting software onto Shapeshifter! But still I need to optimise the MacHandler workflow if it's to be useful for Photoshop tweaking of DPaint artwork if required!

Ha! At first I didn't notice there was a post by our feeble minded spaniard in the thread,
I thought you were calling BigD "newlight".

It was fitting,
he has really "gone newlight" with his last couple threads.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

Again, have you ever actially used an Amiga? You show no interest in anything other then casting dispersions on others with faux lyrical language. False all way! Violent Ken strikes again!

Fine, you caught me while still half asleep! So what? What are you doing here and have you ANY remaining interest in this computer platform? If not... WHY ARE YOU HERE? Surely you've got a Morris dancing club to go to instead?

@BigD

Been a while since I used ShapeShifter. I always thought the resources and data fork were a neat idea. I thought AmigaOS and FFS could have done with a similar idea. But having some kind of icon fork where the icons weren't extra files but embedded in an icon block. Neater than .info files, that ignore redundant image data, which looked like they were hacked on later.

Could it be that the MacHandler has to deal with both the data and resource forks? IIRC it dealt with them by creating extra files with the info.

Seems something is lost in translation by not creating a resource fork if you are copying from Amiga to Mac via MacHandler.

@Hypex

Yeah, you probably have to do two copy task to get both parts of file/application copied! I guess the 'Data' fork part is enough for simple pictures file etc.

The bigger thing I missed is that to get the useful Games/Applications partition you have to set Startup=2 rather than 1 in the Mac Tooltype file for MacHandler 'Mac' icon used to mount the Mac partition while Shapeshifter is in use!

I'm really not sure how useful this is going to be for Photoshop. It seems to crash when you flip an image horizontally and it doesn't seem to save transparency on PNGs like the latest version does!

Managed to do a simple cut out of a cartoon character with poly lasso tool, paste on a background and export to Amiga as iff project.

Still all sorts of rubbish with hidden folders and .info files not bein generated when you try and transfer them! You have to copy the enclosing folder (that you can see) and the Amiga will generate the .info files that way! Good for its time but runs out of memory for the scratch disk quite fast too!

Good experiement.

...also surely Photogenics 5 on the Amiga has a flip horizontal and flip vertical tool? I couldn't see it!

Also, the iff files Photoshop 4 generates only open in Photogenics 5 and not TurboPrint GraphicsPublisher so another conversion is required to print anything!

...maybe it tried to generate an iff with layers as I didn't flatten the image before exporting? I don't know because the other iff where I just did a simple lighting effect and exported opened ok straight into TurboPrint! Crazy conflictions and old school faff! It works though = proof of usefulness of Shapeshifter!
