In this pensive night,

four words thunderously echo through the shadowy archways,
the dimly lit stairwells,
the hallways and tortuous corridors of the vast estate I haunt like a ghost of a past long gone:

"KARLOS, ARE YOU THICK?"

Browsing!.
Browsing is what I am talking of, friend Karlos!
Friend who is capable of elaborate digressions on instructions set,
OF CONJURING VIRTUAL CENTRAL PROCESSING UNITS, BY CHRIST,
but can't nonetheless latch his mind onto the meaning of my oh so simple question.

Browsing!
Browsing is what I wonder the unavailability of,
given that those threads are, in fact, there.

A simple forum search can find them, no need to resort to Alphabet's crown jewel.
A parameter substitution in one of those pitiful php urls can find them.
But browsing? No. We are denied that.

FRIEND SIBBI, I SUMMON THEE! EMERGE!!

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

And how would you use this knowledge? For good or ill? I foresee a dark age where Violent Ken wields the knowledge gleaned from the AmigaWorld vaults to bring about a calamitous schism in the Amiga community!

You were talking about your A1200 before and never mentioned Linux.

With Linux you've no problems, of course.

Maybe some volunteer which is trusted by the owner could help here.

Negative. Improvements require will.

Is anyone going to sit there with a straight face and tell me that the prophesied messiah, who cometh to liberate us from the temptation of "PC" hardware, Amiga emulation, and Hyperion itself, with hundreds of thousands of pounds thrown into esoteric hardware for a couple thousand acolytes, does not have a few thousand quid to spare to update a forum that the greater cross section of the Amiga community frequents?

All that is lacking is the will to do so.

All that is lacking is the will to do so.

The owner of this site is the same of other Amigan, where there's maintenance of forums etc..

However I think that the problem with this specific site is that it's too old and custom-made, so updating it requires much more time (other forums use famous forum softwares AFAIR).

And there's some volunteer maintaining the other sites.

So, I think that it's a combination of complexity (custom software is harder to maintain) plus lack of volunteers that want's to take this burden.

I guess this forum is now running in self drive mode, without moderation how people expect improvements is beyond me

I fully agree.

Just because no one moderates the forum, does not mean no one owns the forum.

How is it that any of us that expect improvements can be so?
Because the forum still has an owner. Someone that at the very least pays for the domain name renewal, and for the hosting.
An owner of a rare Amiga community online hangout, who was moved to buy up the asset (yes, it's an asset), should also be moved to improve it.
Unless it was just a cynical digital land-grab move with no interest to actually service the community beyond the minimal required effort.

As I've said, maybe it requires too much to improve the forum or to move it to a modern software.

But moderation is something which can and should be addressed, because doesn't require money.

FFS, we had moderators back then, and they didn't had a patreon account, they did it because it fit with them. AFAIS the owners doesn't mind their site going down the gutter but will spend their time and money on improving it, yeah right, it makes sense

Exactly, "we had". Emphasis on the had.

A volunteer workforce only goes so far. Moderation is not some 5 minutes/day task, it requires daily dedication, or some moderation tech.

If I remember correctly,
one of the many, many, many wonders information technology wizard Belxjander was working on,
was an AI of sorts.

Perhaps we could use that!

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

Belxjander?

There's a blast from the past. I remember him working on two different things. Something for non-letter based text input and something else that sounded really grandiose at the time, offering the potential to run binaries intended for different architectures.

I recall being somewhat sceptical about the latter, to say the least.

I suppose it depends on what a person is searching for ...

There is the general search at the top of the webpage.

There is also a slightly more detailed search available under
Menu/Information/Search.

Anyways, I found that I can see my posts all the way back to March 7, 2003 when I joined amigaworld.net.

Of course, I can't see the originals of any posts that were deleted or moderated by the moderators, and I can't see any posts that were part of a thread that was blown away by a moderator.

And, I don't know if the secret forums were ever opened up to regular users like you and me.

Moderation is usually volunteers-based.

They were.

Also a number of forums (when dissolved) became a part of a great undertaking by a moderator to "move" (not delete) threads from dissolved forums to appropriate on topic existing forums.
