Happy New Year to you all.

Over the last couple of years I've been working on a new application NetRexx which allows you to write rexx scripts to control applications on remote computers.

I've written about it here on my blog...

http://webplus.broad.ology.org.uk/blog.php?blogid=1059&menuyear=2022&menumonth=12

Here's a shortcut to the video

@broadblues

The link seems to 400 for me. What are the security implications of this? Is it just Amiga to Amiga RPC or will it work with other Rexx implementations too?

@Karlos

Looks part of the url got treated as an html character reference &section became §ion Fixed it now.

I've only created a server for AmigaOS4 at this point porting that to other flavours shouldn't be that hard.

The python client will run on any system, the native client that allows to use directly in rexx scripts, is again only OS4 at present.

@Karlos

PS it use TLS for encrypting the connection. Only ports chosen by the config file are shared.

@broadblues

The 90s called and scream “plagiarism!!”.

Really, NetRexx is “taken”, you should perhaps consider something else.

Hmm OK maybe I should choose an alternative, I guess NetARexx would be the laziest name change, if I can't think of a more imaginative one

Interesting, didn't find that one, when I looked arround for previous implementations, thers another one (forget the name) that requires Envoy. Had a look at the docs , seems like it's more restricted and lower level than my concept, for one thing portnames seem to be identical across machines whereas mine adds the remote hostname to the local portname, eg. SKETCHBLOCK@X1000

And NetFS Revised also supports sharing of ARexx ports, with security options like users/pw/encryption. It works on (between) OS3, OS4, and MorphOS.

@jPV

Really that's interesting, that wasn't a thing when I started this project. Will check it out as I do use NetFS between my OS4 machines.

My project does also support user / password and encryption.

The "advantage" of mine is that you can interect with the server from non AmigaOS devices that don't speak ARexx via the python (and potentially other languages) modules.

@broadblues

Toying with KingFisher as an alternative name.

King -> Rexx
Fisher -> Net

Bad pun but ....

KingFisher is a software to browse database of the famous Fish disks on Amiga. I might have been using Amigas too long, but for me KingFisher is always that catalogue program and nothing else :)
