@Tiw1

There's demos of both on OS4 Depot. You can compare features listed in the description of each player.

@Rob

Ok thank you, but what is the application of one to another.Like is one better for dvd,etc. or is the other one better for YouTube stuff like that. I am going to buy both but not at same time.Already bought Enancer2.0 and some other stuff. Amiga kit is allowing the return of the warp 3d southern islands for the nova bridge.but I thought that is included in the enhancer 2.0 ,I have a Radeon ssf 7750 1 gig.to be honest it’s quite confusing none the less.(did not download the 3d southern islands sf as of yet)

@Tiw1

AFAIK DvPlayer doesn't support web streaming. Emotion does.

@Tiw1

Frank, our coder , is working hard on an Emotion Update. We hope to get it released next Week.
So, Emotion is still alive ;)

Would be great if the frames were updated when seeking while the video is paused. From the GUI and AREXX. I had started adding Emotion support to VideoClipper but the inability for the fame to update while the video remains paused is what kept if from being usable. An option to keep the video clipper GUI visable after playing a video, so I would play multiple videos in a row without the GUI closing and opening would be good as well.

Should Emotion be able to run 1280x720/30fps videos (from SSD HD) smoothly with a Radeon HD 6450 and X5000? I have encountered problems with almost all videos I have tested. What is peculiar, some videos which show constant distortions with Emotion 1.9, work much better with 1.1-demo.

I have RadeonHD v. 3.7 and va.library v. 1.11 installed.

For comparison, with Linux and VLC (with HW acceleration enabled) all 720p videos have worked without problems, using the same hardware.

@ktadd:

We will see if we can include it, if it makes sense. I will talk with Frank about it and put it on our list.

@Gregor: Your GFX Card don´t have Support for video acceleration in HW, so your CPU is working hard and it depends on the video codec if it is smooth or not. Go for a RadonRX card in your X5000 and you will be able to play it smooth.

So, is the problem lack of HW acceleration support in AmigaOS components, or in Emotion itself? Does Dv player have the same problem with HD 6450?

Unfortunately a RX card is not a solution for me as I would then loose both Linux and MorphOS, and thus the modern browsers I need for everyday tasks! But I can still use Linux/VLC, as the HD 6450 hw acceleration is supported there, both video and 3D.

You might be able to try this :

Hardware acceleration is provided by latest Radeon HD and RX drivers (A-Eon).

For Radeon HD, only Southern Islands chipsets are supported (Radeon 7000 - 9000 series and R7 - R9 series).

When Emotion 1.9 does not work better than the Demo 1.1, can you please compare the tooltypes and settings in menu? Maybe the "Compositing" Enabled acceleration could help a bit (here the CPU decodes the video but compositing is blitting the images and it may help). Maybe it is deactivated in your full version.

We also hope to get the newest update finished soon, Frank has to solve a problem and then his current list is done. Maybe we can get some improvements here but HW acceleration is important today (no other system uses CPU decoding, only Amiga makes it possible ;) )

Note: I also use a RadeonHD R7 250 and i can not use acceleration in my X1000 :(

@imagodespira

Wonder if you have filed a bug report ?
Best chance of getting the issues fixed is if the person with the specific issues
files the bug report and can test the fixes .
Not everyone has the same combination of hardware .

Weird, I'm using an R7 250 and Emotion is using hardware decoding (with latest Radeon HD driver) with problems already mentioned (720p maximum).

@K-L: The acceleration with newest RadeonHD seemst to be only on paper or for purchasing the driver ;) The RadeonHD should play 1080p videos with no big CPU impact.

Thanks, I am already aware of this possibility... Unfortunately I do not have currently free space in my X5000 for a second graphics board. I have already an almost unused R7 240 board which I may try later with a riser, but the reports here suggest that HW acceleration does not really work with R7s.

I have already tried to adjust the settings as much as possible to match the 1.1, but no luck. Do you mean by "Compositing" enabled acceleration the 'YUVAccel' and 'VAAPIAccel' tooltypes? They are both already "TRUE".

How do you plan to distribute the update? Any idea how much it will cost?-)

I wish we had access to some more sophisticated performance analysis tools. Having a profile of what's taking up the most time might help figuring out where the excess CPU time is being swallowed up...
