So far it has been simply awesome. Great and feature rich update.

The network handling is super intuitive and transfer speeds on the 11,2 Mac are faster than my i5 PC by a decent margin now.

Too much good stuff to report, check it out:

Sounds like a massive Update. Especially the smbfs and netfs improvements are very appreciated.

@Zylesea

It is cool just to click into your network once and then it remembers next time you boot.

The speed is very noticeable.

I also turned on cache for the partitions under system prefs and cranked up cache under SFS, it did make a nice improvement for Wayfarer. Jaca mentions using SSH as another speed up.

All the marginal pages for speed are all moving fine now. I never thought I would see this hardware do so much. Lots of talent on the team...

@Zylesea

Yes, the integration of SMB2FS went well beyond just making it function.

It is one more thing where something is slick and well thought out to save the user time and headaches.

Being able to install an entire OS from nothing in just a few minutes and have it so functional has saved me time for sure!

Just noticed a super cool feature.

In Wayfarer 5.1 and MOS 3.18 when it automatically notifified me a new version of wayfarer was available is asked me at the end if I wanted to open the archive with instruction. It opened it up and I was done updating.

Used the new archiver alot. It even protects the archive, exchanged with pc users with not issues.

The problem with new MorphOS versions is that everything is updated, added, finetuned which can shock AmigaOS4 users (last big update 9 years ago). Some of them even think that MorphOS is similar to Linux. Probably we should add some predefined mountlists for SMBFS2 in SYS:Devs/Dosdrivers directory, which can be edited before each use to mimic other Amiga-like oses usability.

Ok, you gave me a good laugh. Thanks. I didn't know it was that long ago!

I do have more than one friend who runs AOS4, that will not use it any more once bigfoot finishes the drivers and modern video cards are available in MOS.

For me MorphOS reminds me the feeling I had in the early 90's with my 3000D and all the updates and options that came out for it at the time. MorphOS has given me the same joy with updates. By necessity I have gotten pretty good with G5 hardware, actually don't mind the hardware anymore either.

@t0lkien

Yeah I don't see it either.

MorphOS has always felt like AmigaOS with MUI, where MUI became fruitful and mulitplied and took over the OS. It also has a few smatterings of MacOS for good measure.

Eventually AOS would have had to go in this direction on some of the items, so I always felt it is what AOS would have become if it stayed in business. Not having MUI natively in AOS stinks, Reaction is ok but MUI is so much more capable and mature.

Still love 3.2.2 for classics, but for NG I like MOS. MOS is so much easier. It took about 30 minutes of playing to get SMB2FS going on classic, in MorphOS it took less than 30 seconds.

Latest update of AmigaOS 4.1 was released on the 23rd of December 2020 (as far as I know, MorphOS is still in version 3.xx so no "major update" as you intend to say).

Noone I know using AmigaOS 4.1 think of MorphOS as a Linux version.

BTW, I'm using both systems together (thanks to MKShare) on my X1000 and my PowerMac G5 2.7.

I know both systems, their capabilities, their lacks and so on.

I don't think tryong to start a flame war as you intend to do (even if we are on AmigaWorld) is really the good thing to do.

Regarding MorphOS 3.18, I am really impressed by the whole new SMBFS implementation (it's a bit more rudimentory on AmigaOS 4.1). I can now share all my files between my OS4 system and my MorphOS system easily :)
