WinUAE 5.2.0 on Ryzen 9 7900X (via guest: PPC 604e, 1208 MB RAM, Voodoo 3 16 MB PCI) with RTX 4080 (Gigabyte Gaming OC variant) Effect detail in default, Audio active.
640x480 - 33.9 FPS (3938 frames, 124.8 seconds; fullscreen; software rendering) 800x600 - 26.2 FPS (3271 frames, 124.8 seconds; fullscreen; software rendering)
320x240 - 55.6 FPS (6939 frames, 124.8 seconds; fullscreen; MiniGL / Warp3D). 640x480 - 55.1 FPS (6877 frames, 124.8 seconds; fullscreen; MiniGL / Warp3D).
There's an emulated CPU-related bottleneck with Voodoo 3's 320x240 vs 640x480.
Ryzen 9 7900X has a slightly higher boost clock speed when compared to Ryzen 5 7600X. Ryzen 9 7950X has higher boost modes.
My CPU boost modes are the motherboard's out-of-the-box settings.
Intel Raptor Lake with a certain motherboard's "unlimited" mode could have the edge in this particular use case.
On software render, Pegasos 2 with PPC G4 1266 MHz was exceeded by the current generation X86 CPU's emulated PPC 604e.
My QEmu 9 with AmigaOS 4.1 FE is SAM460ex variant. I may look into Qemu9 Pegasos 2 AmigaOS 4.1 FE variant. I rather purchase "System 54" prepackaged with Qemu 9 like with Amiga Forever 2016 which includes the AmigaOS 4.1 FE bundle.

| I just completed the game (after hours of fun and few system freezes - may be my GFX card failing). Levels are really well designed (except probably the swamp between elven and lizard cities) and I like both music and GFX style. The gameplay is very different from the first Heretic (one of my favourite games) with several platforming elements and light environment puzzles, but I was really immersed in it. My only dislike is probably the last boss - I'm really bad at timed sequences and this one was too short. Other than that, it was a superb ride! |

No, the Heretic2 GL Renderer (or SW Renderer) does not scale from one resolution to a target resolution. It renders in the specified resolution.
320x240 BTW is not originally in the game, it was added for the Amiga version (back then for the WarpOS version already). Last edited by MagicSN on 22-Jun-2024 at 03:49 PM.

640x480 resolution is selected inside the Heretic II game. WinUAE can scale to 4K, but this is native code. Last edited by Hammer on 24-Jun-2024 at 12:30 PM.

| There is a new update for Heretic II on the Hyperion's website. It now allows to play ogg music files instead of using CD (or CD image as in my case). There are other bug fixes, sadly the issue of invisible ammount of ammunition is not solved yet. |

| New laptop (AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS 3.8/5.1 GHz): WinUAE 5.2.0: 604e, 640 MB RAM, Voodoo 3 16 MB: 640x480 - 23.0 FPS (2868 frames, 124.7 seconds; fullscreen; software rendering) 640x480 - 22.7 FPS (2833 frames, 125.1 seconds; fullscreen; MiniGL)
Even faster than real Pegasos 2 G4 1266 MHz in software rendering! |

Hawk Point 8845HS's laptop Zen 4 has half of desktop 7700X's L3 cache.
I might redo my test with Windows 11 24H2.
