I posted to a few Amiga forums overnight to let folks know about FinalWriter 7.3.

Under one of those posts, someone asks this:

"... Does purchasing a license now provide updates until a hypothetical Version 8, or only until 7.4?"

I see this written on your product page: "Updates/Bug Fixes until the next version included."

So that I understand and can convey the correct answer to that person, can you confirm that purchasers of 7.3 will receive free updates to 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, and 7.9?

In other words, no additional payment is required unless they want to upgrade to 8.0 in the future?

That is correct.... That being said most of the future 7 series will be fixes and minor enhancements not major changes. potential compatibility improvements with older FW docs as we get examples.

also thank you for posting about it. :)

Someone in a forum is asking:

"... How well does it work on an A1200 + Pistorm32 lite?"

https://www.forum64.de/index.php?thread/164275-finalwriter-7-3-word-processor-for-amigaos-3-1-68k-users-released-in-2026/

Can I tell them that FW7.3 works well with AGA machines equipped with PiStorm32-Lite? Or is that a configuration that your team needs more time to test?

Has anyone tried this yet on OS4? I purchased and downloaded it earlier today. When trying to start on my X5000, it asks me what screen to open, but no matter which one I choose, it opens a small window in the left hand side of the screen and then displays scrolls of bunch of characters
, then it just closes. I only got to try it a few times, but was wondering if anyone has gotten it to work already.

@terminills

Thanks again for this excellent release. I have fond memories of PenPal and its ultimate successor Final Writer. These came in handy to keep me organized when I worked for Commodore promoting, supporting and selling the Amiga line in Asia long ago in another life when everyone was a cat.

:)

@terminills

Thanks for continuing the development of FinalWriter.

I have the same problem as @Livebyfaith.

System: X5000 P0520, OS4.1FE-U3

When attempting to launch, it asks for the screen mode, after making a selection, FinalWriter opens briefly,
returns to Workbench and opens an output window displaying a large number of characters,
after which the output window closes.

Question regarding the German catalog:
Deutsch
--------
FinalWriter.catalog = 35664 bytes
FinalWriter-Ackn.catalog = 976 bytes
FinalWriter-General.catalog = 627 bytes

German
-------
FinalWriter.catalog = 15228 bytes
FinalWriter-Ackn.catalog = 620 bytes
FinalWriter-General.catalog = 136 bytes

I also noticed that not all settings have been translated into German.

Best regards from Germany.

@Drakken

I saw a post on Amigans.net with a solution that worked for too. I had to go to aminet and download and install this file:
https://aminet.net/util/libs/freetype2_lib.lha

With that installed it loaded right up.

Hope that helps you too.

working great on my X1000 running OS4.1FE Update 3. Loaded up some of my old files and converted them to PDF with no issues and so sweet to print them easily via AirPrint...happy customer

@Livebyfaith

Thanks for the Tip, It works now

When exiting FinalWriter, the output window now opens, displays a large number of characters,
and closes automatically. The OS freezes but functions normally again after the process
finished.

Using AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 3 on my MicroA1 system.

FinalWriter 7.3 launches fine now that I have installed freetype2.library package mentioned by others.

Printing to a pdf file seems to work ok, but I have to quit FinalWriter and use AirPrint to print the resulting pdf file.

The ipp printing function does not work for me.

Sometimes quitting FinalWriter works fine.

Sometimes quitting FinalWriter, I get a text window spewing garble, then the window disappears and my system survives.

Sometimes quitting FinalWriter, I get a text window spewing garble, then my system freezes up solid and I have to reboot.

Still experimenting, maybe some tweeking required.

@redfox

That is exactly what I am experiencing as well. I am on OS4.1 update 3 X5000 40 with a Radeon 550.

I am also experiencing some kind of tearing in the text display at times, but it seems to right it self over time. Also if I move the window around on workbench, the side bar flashes a bit and CPU usage spikes.

Update...

Regarding FinalWriter 7.3 on OS4.1 ...

I have been doing some further testing and found out that I don't actually require freetype2.library or FTManager.

Perhaps FinalWriter 7.3 only required the fonts from the freetype2 package.

Quitting FinalWriter 7.3 still produces the text window and random system lockups, but not every time.
