Nah! The illustrous Bodies just need a modern, energy-efficient Bodie Phone:
 String Phone Handset Harnessing the power of string Quote:
How do string phones work? To make a string phone, all you have to do is take two papers cups, put small holes on their bottoms and pass a piece of string through each. After you have done that take one paper cup and give the other to a friend. When you talk into the cup, your friend will be able to hear you loud and clear! Now, let's find out how these string phones work. |
How do string phones work?
Digitally enhansed string manipulation:
Quote:
Dim phone As String Dim first As String Dim second As String Dim third As String
phone = "1234567890"
first = Left$(phone, 3) second = Mid$(phone, 4, 3) third = Right$(phone, 4)
phone = "(" & first & ")" & " " & second & "-" & third Response.Write(phone)

| @Bodie_CI5, did you like to talk trains, when you were young? Most small fry get excited by the railway!
 Not certain if THIS young one is: (1) Talking train! (2) Listening for a train. or . . . (3) Trying to encourage that minature locomotive to emerge from his ear? _________________ -vortexau, who's A1 XE-G4 remains at half-RAM ! | @Bodie_CI5, here's small fry bread . . . small fry bin . . . small fry club . . . small fry on two wheels
. . . and a completely unrelated story: A New York woman was at her hairdresser's on Park Avenue getting her hair cut prior to a vacation in Rome with her boyfriend. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded, "Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? Italy's crowded, dirty and full of Italians. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?"
"Were taking Continental," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"
"Continental?" exclaimed the hairdresser. "That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?"
"We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome's left bank called Teste..."
"Don't go any further. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump, the worst hotel in the city! The rooms are small, the service is surly and they're overpriced. So, whatcha doing when you get there?"
"We're going to go to see the Vatican and we hope to see the Pope."
"That's rich," laughed the hairdresser. "You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."
A month later, the woman again came in for a hairdo. The hairdresser asked her about her vacation in Rome. "It was wonderful," explained the woman, "we not only flew on one of Continental's brand new planes, but it was overbooked and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me great! The hotel was marvelous, they'd just finished a $5-million remodeling job and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge!"
"Well," muttered the hairdresser, "that's all well and good, but I know you didn't get to see the Pope."
"Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder and explained that the Pope likes to meet some of the visitors and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me. Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me."
"Oh, really...what'd he say?"
"He said, 'Where'd you get the shi||y hair cut?'" _________________ -vortexau, who's A1 XE-G4 remains at half-RAM ! A2000HD (from 1991) 060 64Mb PicassoII with OS3.5 . . . still working. |

Silly me, I thought that the Bodie-Phone was the sort of telecommunications device that wouldn't let you get a word in...

| @RoqueFort, according to Microsoft Tech Support vs. Psychic Friends Network!, the Psychic Friends Network gives better value on support calls than does Microsoft technical support: Quote:
Our third call to Microsoft involved using the standard file save dialog from within Microsoft Access to get a file name and directory string from a user in order to save an exported file. The documentation didn't make it clear how to do this using Visual Basic code within Microsoft Access, and Dan decided to call Microsoft to ask if and how a programmer could do this. The technical support person he reached told him he was asking about a pretty heavy programming task. He cheerily informed Dan that he'd called the wrong number and advised Dan to call help for Visual Basic, not Access ($195 instead of $ 55 ). This technical support person was extraordinarily helpful in getting Dan his refund. End of Call Three.
Stymied by our responses from Microsoft, we decided to try another service provider, the Psychic Friends Network. There are several noticeable differences between Microsoft and the Psychic Friends Network. Microsoft charges a flat rate per "solution," which is a single problem and can be handled in multiple phone calls. As described above, Microsoft may or may not issue a refund of their fee if they fail to provide a solution for your problem. The Psychic Friends Network charges a per minute fee. They do not offer a refund if they cannot solve your problem. However, unlike Microsoft, they will not charge you extra if they provide more than one solution per call.
We decided to test the Psychic Friends Network by asking them the same questions that we had asked Microsoft Technical Support. We called them and were quickly connected with Ray, who was very courteous and helpful. Like Microsoft Bob, Ray quickly informed us that he wasn't fully up to date on the programs that we were working with, but he was willing to help us anyway. |
( . . . THIS did mention a "directory string"!) _________________ -vortexau, who's A1 XE-G4 remains at half-RAM ! A2000HD (from 1991) 060 64Mb PicassoII with OS3.5 . . . still working. |
