@BigBentheAussie

I like the idea since I do not own an A1 myself. I can send my code to a friend for testing, but this would speed up the process in addition to being a way cool application.

Of course, going more low-tech, one could have "official testers" who receive code that they
*compile if the authors cannot do that themselves but have provided a Makefile
*test to see if it works according to the given specification

Why so complicated ? Making a program compile and work (testing it on...) Amiga Classic and then doing an OS 4 recompile using the crosscompiler should be fine, normally.

On Source-Code level there are not many changes, for App Developers, at least if the Classic program compiles on gcc.

@MagicSN

What is the legal status of the AmigaOS 4 includes? Cross-compilation is not an option if one does not have the includes.

@Offa

Well, I am not the legal expert. But if someone has the cross-compiler he has the includes
probably too, as the cross-compiler and the includes are found on the same CD. But okay,
if someone has the prerelease, he has an A1, and does not need the cross-compiler... as he can use the native one then...

@all

I may have missed part of this thread, but is there any view of a PC-based A1 development kit in the same way that console manufacturers allow development of games in a sandbox on a PC, then the finished binary can be squirted over to the actual hardware for final testing?

Failing this, surely the SDK (autodocs/includes) can be made publicly available? After all, even Microsoft allow their SDK to be downloaded for free (assuming you'll put up with their naff web-based installer) - I'm currently waiting for StellarDreams to get their e-shop on-line so I can buy myself an A1 (hmm, 800 or 933? - decisions, decisions ) but in the meantime I'd love to be able to read up on the details of the system while I wait...

@chrisp:

It is like this: You can create an OS 4 Executable on a PC, but you cannot run it there.

@MagicSN

gcc, I believe, can be obtained from the gcc CVS repository. In any case, since gcc and binutils are GPL, anyone in possession of the SDK can get the source.

But then, one also needs newlib or clib2 to do standard C, and Amiga OS specific headers and maybe some stub lib to do Amiga specific compilation.

What are the licences for newlib and clib2?
