hi.

as there is no more "club amiga magazine" which always used to feature some interesting status updates on the os4 development... how about one here?

i'd really like to know what is going on, has been done since releaseing the update1 of the prerelease what is currently worked on and what is left.

@MichaelMerkel

I think Warp3D is being worked on at the moment, and judging by some of the threads I've read is progressing nicely.

Also I've seen that Overlay GFX support is underway.

Have a look round some of the threads.

Cheers,
Bean.

@MichaelMerkel

There is also a good start on POSIX support (currently via a download on OS4 Depot).

Power management is also being worked on, apparently. This would help immensely in situations requiring minimal power consumption, i.e. laptops.

sure - i read it dayly.

but a nice collective and informative post from the hyperion "officials" (either ben or hans jörg or thomas) would be appreciated.

@gregthecanuck

Interesting - I'll admit that I had to dig around to find out what POSIX was all about, but the first link I read had the following information:

Quote:
"But is it POSIX-conformant?"

A savvy engineer just needs to ask a few quick questions about an operating system in order to determine if it might fully support the POSIX standards.

1. "Does each process in the operating system reside in a different name space and have its own symbols table?
2. "Does the operating system support the fork() call?"
3. "Can the operating system distinguish between threads and processes?"
4. "Does the operating system support signals?"

Can anyone explain to me exactly what the ramifications of this would be? Assume that I'm a total dunce
Does it mean that other POSIX-conforming code can just be re-compiled to run; no tweaks, etc.?

I recall reading elsewhere (on here, I think) about the problems in porting Linux code that uses fork() - does mean that if this is resolved at an OS level, things like Open Office ports will become easier??

Well, I'm not programmer, but wouldn't AmigaOS semaphores be classed as "signals"? At least thats what the name implies!

yes. i have it here since the very first day of release

but it has been said somwhere her on amigaworld.net that the update 2 mainly consists of bug fixes and is not bringing much new functionality with it. except usb mass storage device support.
that's what i read here in the forum when someone asked for a change log iirc.
and that's why i wrote "since update 1" as we have not seen everything since then.

what's the actual problem with a status update? "only" time? not going into the public with some new deveopments? i mean cam is no more (or can we expect the delayed april(?) one) - event the older cam articles have been removed from amiga incs pages i'm sure i saw them yesterday...
and amigaworld.net is the "community portal"...

btw... how about some new interviews from amigaworld.net?

Yes, @MichaelMerkel. There has been a recent software update following the one you mentioned from last year.
