PS - only one thing... he said that AmigaOS is "by definition cross-platform" : maybe he wrongly exchanged it for AmigaDE ?!??

If you think about "cross platform" in the context of running on the desktop, handhelds, cellphones, servers, etc... then it's not entirely the case. OS4 could easily fit most, if not all of the above situations, but would have a harder time in the server area (for now at least). Still it will excel on the others.

First of all, my compliments to aworld and DaveyD for this magnificent interview.

Mr Hare talked about new "strategic partners" etc. I hope this is good for Amiga in general and not some KMOS telecommunication industry business... (Although KMOS is a company, and companies are about money whatever the source might be).
I also really liked the way he addressed the developers issue/support. With no s/w a platform is dead.

On the other hand, the hardware is still the same it was a couple of years before. Nothing bad with that but the prices are high as if it was the cuting edge h/w on the IT sector... Even with a little market you cannot expect to counterbalance the expenses by selling at higher prices! A 20-30% higher prices over the corresponding present solutions on the sector might be tolerable, but over that, its just absurd. This is shame, and he should realise that there must be alternatives, and possibly following the technology advancement by keeping the pace (that's where the "strategic partnerships" count!).

What a great interview. There are a few bits in there when I just said "check mate". I seriously think this saga will be a good movie one day :) With a happy ending eventually.

Bring on AmigaOS 4.0 ;)

Interesting reading. Thanks for the interview.

I think things are looking up in the Amiga movement. The next year or two will be very interesting. New'ish hardware, updated PPC OS on its way, and a sense of direction (even if it is telecommunications). I hope the desktop version of AmigaOS will not be a low priority.

To me this is the last chance before I lay the Amiga down to rest. I don't think I can tolerate anymore buyout's (unless it's from IBM).

Thanks AmigaWorld and Garry Hare for this fantastic and insightful interview! Welcome, Garry Hare to the Amiga community!! May your stay be long and prosperous! As a developer, I'm really impressed by the sound of the developer support programs. I can't wait to see all this come together! Long live the Amiga!!

So some day we'll see things like an information kiosk with a KMOS name tag and something like "Powered by Amiga OS" somewhere on it... (?)

Bringing everything to the point without leaving room for interpretation

You really believe this?

Well. let me put it this way: I don't necessarily believe that there is "no Mai without April" just because
it is written on ANN in a comment to a news item. But this is not ANN and Garry Hare was not writing
out of a mood or for publicity reasons, but patiently answered questions that were sent to him by
AW.net staff.

So I believe this Garry Hare is genuine and the identity checked by AW.net (who I trust), the language is
clear (even to me as a non english native) and the facts I knew fit well with what he states.

Questions always remain, so all the Itec connections are not clear, but that's life. For now, I do have no
reason not to "believe" what Garry Hare wrote. There are so many people's names that he mentions or
that were involved that one could ask "was this so?" (the lawyers, David Traub, the managing partners
of Hyperion, Alan Redhouse, Fleecy, Ray, Bill of AmigaInc., AW.net staff, even Wayne Hunt) that it would
be quite easy to disprove him if he had not written the truth of what he knows.
So the answer is "Yes, I do", there is no room for interpretation.

(yeah, maybe I should've written "without leaving much room", but anyway)

Quote:
Take a look over at Ann.lu and see how they "interpret" this interview

That is quite like saying: "Take a look out of this window and see how the people "deal" with the
weather here" (as for me, I bike every day, I like summer rain and love it when it snows in winter, there
is no such thing as "bad" weather ). It's random. But some people I see "outside the window" are
people I know (by name) and generally regard as "objective" when they write in public forums and I
read that whole thread, they were there.. (but I mostly just ed )

Honestly, to me it only matters how "Me, Myself an I" interpret this interview. But when someone
comes up with an objective opinion based on provable facts, I will take that and add it to my
"interpretation" where appropriate, I mean "every" fact, whether positive or negative.

Ciao, Alex

How so? Certainly - it would appear that the card existed, but Gary admitted that the job-description on it was not genuine.

Aw! But then there are many of them there (like Extra Venacular Activist) who sit underneath the turntable so that they can put a different spin-on-things!

Nice interview! There was 2 things that concerned me though..

1. What the heck was the stuff about AmigaOS being crossplatform?
2. I am also a bit worried about the fact that he has never touched a Amiga..

But he does indeed sound like a nice and honest guy..
I wish KMOS good luck

My opinion is that he should be presented with a working CDTV and a REC Wonder TV A6000 so as to aware of HOW CLOSE the classic hardware did come to one of Gary's own ideals.

Indeed! A very good interview. Thanks to Garry Hare and the AmigaWorld.net team for this great interview.

I can only agree with the opinion of most of the users here. Garry Hare seems to be an upright and competent person. One thing impressed me: even if BB has an ongoing lawsuit with KMOS and seems to have put wrong statements in Garry Hare's mouth, Hare respects BB as person (atleast this was my impression).

I hope KMOS is doing the right thing with AmigaOS and I wish them good luck with their business!

Geri

Good interview. Garry seems to be a down to earth guy. I especially liked the explanation about the business card fiasco. Even the guys at the top can make silly mistakes sometimes. They are human too, afterall.

I find the comments on ann.lu and moobunny rather offensive, and just plain stupid, all this suspicion and agony! it`s time for whats left of this once great community to stick together and support our nr 1 platform!
