Am I the only one with a nice setup? I've had it installed for the last year or so. I did however at the start notice it was slightly sluggish. I have an Asus motherboard and in the bios there is a performance tab which can either be set to Optimal or Turbo. One day I selected Turbo and have been amazed ever since. I have lot's off applications installed and everything runs like a dream. Maybe I've just been lucky with my system.

No, you are not the only one with a "nice setup", and yes you have been lucky. :) This coming from someone who deals with XP machines all day long. Yeah it's a lot better than the old versions, but it can become so sluggish, even when turning off extra services, and cleaning out spyware. There is just no excuse for it from a company who is so well funded as Microsoft.

I think, from all of the demonstrations of OS4 at our user group meetings, that it feels a heck of alot faster running on a 800MHz PPC than XP does running on a 3.0GHz P4. (And before anyone jumps in to defend the P4's "superior" architecture, I said it "feels" more responsive).

I'm wondering if you're being sarcastic? Because the two things that first came to mind was:

1. Where's the opaque window moves?

and

2. Amithlon running on a older AMD Duron 800 with a cheapie graphics card looked AT LEAST as fast.

I can see, however, the improvement over past demonstration videos. Keep up the good work!

You?re not the only one with a PC that runs reasonably ok. e.g. loading MSWord2002 about 2 seconds (on first load, without Office's preload startup applet). Reloading MSWord2002 takes about 1 second.

1. Where's the opaque window moves?

it's my fault...I forgot to turn it on before the demo...:(

I also planned to show OS4 Freespace, Warp3D native.
But it wasn't possible to show them all in 4 minutes..:(

I'll have MPEG, RM, and WMF versions available later today on my website, scroll right to the bottom of the video page for links.
(Should be online just after 6pm UK time tonight, providing all goes well.

Hey guys, it's not THAT fast. Really.

Perhaps it's faster than some previous version. Or perhaps shown apps start faster than the 68k binary of those apps on 68k Amigas. But IMO, my AOS3.9 on 060/50 is not any slower in window movement etc.

Surely, after IDE DMA is enabled and all GFX libraries are native PPC, apps start "instantly" without that kind of delays...

(for example: native Amplifier on AOS4/600Mhz should start as fast as Hippoplayer does on AOS3.x/50Mhz. or faster)

It didn't look very fast to me. My XP setup is more responsive on that (on a 900mhz duron).
