Just goes to show one should never underestimate the value of eye candy. This is fantastic - we have a GUI that can be scaled

Its really good because Joe Bloggs in the street may not know or care what happeneds under the bonnet of an OS - so they rate it by its eye candy. Now that .png's provide that eye candy for those who wish I guess we can see a lot more Joe Bloggs giving OS 4 a try.

Hi,
Is there an automated way in OS4 to change all drawer icons? Since I remember in 3.0 having to manually go through and change all the .info files manually!

Also what happens if there is no .info file for a directory/file? does it use a default.info file somewhere from the system: directory? (like the windows associate file type with this icon approach).

Sorry to sound like such a newbe, but it's been a long time since I did any icon stuff.

ta.

In OS 3.9 its a case of clicking the icon - going to icon info and in the window that pops up dragging the icon you want into it.

@TheJackal:

You can use RAWBinfo (which is launched by default IIRC with the current OS4 setup) and simply drag and drop an icon onto the window to replace it. Likewise, if you use "Information" on a default icon in a "View all files" window, pressing 'Save' or using the "Snapshot" function will create an icon - no need to copy manually.

@Rogue

Thanks, that seems much easier than I had it in 3.0. I spent days copying all the info files to the right place!

On another note, a good possible feature for future versions of the OS would be a "Quick Swap Default" button. This would change all the display/input/pref settings to the installed default ones.

The idea been that if someone comes to use your computer "over your shoulder" as it where, its sometimes difficult to use a heavly customised system, so a button in the dock menu to go to the default settings would be handy.

Actually the dock menu could have a drop down list which allowed you to change the "theme" easly.

Just an idea.

@ samo79:

Didn't look right to me either....I used altaVista translator and tried very " nice" and a few other variations.

It has been a very long time and I never wrote Italian only spoke it (a little) and listened a great deal to my grandmother.

She was not formally educated from southern Italy and spoke a dialect, not Roman Italian so I wasn't sure... Gotta love the international aspect of the Internet...Thanks!
