Miscellaneous News   Miscellaneous News : OS4 Icon Design competition by Haage&Partner
posted by MikeB on 7-Aug-2004 19:29:15 (6385 reads)
The German Amiga portal amiga-news.de reports that Haage&Partner has started a competition for people designing AmigaOS4 system and application icon sets. The three most beautiful designs will receive a free copy of ArtEffect (German version?) for AmigaOS4.

Meanwhile Toaks has uploaded some new screenshots of his popular OS4 icon & skin set created by 'restore' to the AmigaOS.dk Screenshot Gallery: Screenshot1 Screenshot2 Screenshot3 (older one)

@virgolamobile:

i never said theese was to be a default look, they are just made for fun and most of all i'm sick and tired of lame grabs , everyone to their style.

as for grabbing from macos, sure its from all over the place + quite a few handmade ones for amiga only games/tools etc.

no matter how much u turn it around it aint always about what others think, its what u like yerself and that my friend...thats AMIGA .

it wasnt me who added this to the compo or whatever, i was abit shocked even , anyway as far as im concerned or restore (who did most of this) have no idea why theese screenshots was added to the news item, but i for one will take it as a compliment.

i love the look and i have no issues if it looks like anything else as long as i like it myself.

ps: no matter how much i agree with you on all of your things one thing is certain, my email server went trough the roof, irc channels going bananas etc , just because of that screenshot (old one) beeing uploaded.

pps:i didnt even know there was so many amiga users out there still, so i'm amazed.

peace !

cheers

Well, I for one like those screenshots of Toak's desktop and wouldn't mind my desktop looking like that .

As for the competition, it's a cool idea and I'm real curious to see what the creative minds come up with!

I added it because it is related to AmigaOS4 PNG icon design. Before adding any news subject I generally look at what I think people will find interesting and / or maybe would see as a source of inspiration. The feedback with regard to your first screenshot was very positive and thus I believed this to be the case.

I just have one question. Is there an English version of this announcement or can someone do a translation? (That may have been two questions )

I can pick out key words and such, to get the idea, but it would help to read it in English. That would also give some of us a better idea of what is required, etc...

Edit... Actually, looking back over it, there doesn't seem to bee too much to translate. It would still be nice to see an English version with a bit more info.

@ Herewegoagain

A quick and dirty translation (had a rough night):

'Icon competition

Participate and win!

Show your creative side!

The time is running - Your Employment is asked for!

Design a complete Icon-Set for AmigaOS4 or an Application set.

For the three most beautiful designs there will each be a free ArtEffect for AmigaOS4.

Send your data in PNG format with alpha channel.

More information at:

I would prefer if the winner could win that H&P release FINALLY the source code for their 3.9 68k apps and for Reactor !
This is the only action that will make me buy again H&P products...

Ummm... What does that "Application set" stands for? Could someone provide me with an example?

@ warface

I imagine that would mean a set of icons created for 3rd party Amiga applications. For instance icons for AmigaOS4 compatible classic software.

I don't know if that would be enough, considering the long list of unfinished business they have yet to address.
Be it not releasing the source code which slows the completion of OS4, (btw AInc legally owns 3.5/3.9 according to the sources), or the unpaid royalties for OS3.9 and Amithlon, and most notably, dropping AmigaXL and all support before even fixing the bugs as required to make the product work *as advertised*, causing thousands of users to leave the Amiga completely, etc.

I let you guess why Hyperion got the 4.0 contract instead of H&P.

@ AmigAlex

I understand your feelings, but as with most issues bothering the Amiga community there are very different opinions and points of view and a lack of insider information available to the general public.

Often issues are cash related, of which there has been a severe lack of the last couple of years within the Amiga community. Hopefully with KMOS this is about to change. So IMO it's best to keep an open mind. At least the fact that H&P decided to support AmigaOS4.0 seems like a promising and very positive sign.

I have to wonder what H&P are up to with this.

An innocent competition, or something more?
Forgive me if I'm paranoid.

They aren't exactly the good guys anymore.

Sorry, but at the moment, I'm happy to see ANY Amiga developer still in the game.
Those who enter: Be aware that if the past is any indicator, someone else MAY be making bucks off of your work that you may never see...
