Kind regards,

A3000T: well...hehe depends on what u compare it with i guess
anyway im sure u could put on a 19DBA fan or something.

Dunno if its wise to start modding on the fan right away as im sure eyetech didnt go over the top when making the cooling etc for theese babies..

time to check the specs....anyone?

Well I suppose considering that this is supposed to be a "special deal" for two days and then the price is going to go up somewhat, I would agree with you that at least it's more expensive than expected. For example $499 Euros is $635 US, and at all of the US shops the u-A1 C is listed for $599 US and th u-A1 I for $699 US.

In any case, while it's certainly not "cheap", you will be able to put together a complete system for around the same price as a regular A1 motherboard so the savings comparatively is quite large...hopedully large enough for the people who have been waiting due to $ can now purchase their new Amigas!

Oh, it appears that this price includes OS4 pre with free update to release. The US boards do not so this is actually a good deal! ;)

Eyetech, Hyperion, and the fate of the Amiga depend on us people...purchase with impunity! :)

@ Dennis

Depending on the case which the board is housed in - its either noticeable or dead silent. In my case I can just about hear it - but its a lot quieter than my PC. But my case is tiny - litterally its very cramped its more like a skin than a case.

If you have something like the cube shaped cases where there is more height to them etc this dampens the sound further to almost nothing.

And OS4 included...

But it does make me wonder where that 10 or 20 pound extra comes from starting 1st of nov.

I think the price is ok for a system that's almost ready to run, just a box, hd and CD/DVD is missing... But why did put in that old gfx-chip, it's not that much more expesive to get a never one.... Here in Sweden isn't even possible to buy these "classic" chip anymore on a graphicscard.. Well, it can be ok in these early system without powerfull games etc, yet....
It's a bit stange that the price is about £151 more that the announced price from Eyetech, i mean that the VAT/sales tax can't really be that high, or?

But I'm happy to see that the wait is over, and hope that the Swedish prices will not go to high this time, as with the old A1 systems....

The links on the right side are interesting. The A500 PPC and A500+ PPC...

@olegil

Sure, but your company does design those boards....

AFAWeK, Eyetechs had some input into design on the level of pointing out basic features (GBit or no GBit, Radeon7000 or something else...), but they surely didn't design the actual board-layout, thats something done by MAI/Atum. Same seems to go when it had to be decided when and how many boards are produced.

It may be that Eytech do help financing the development (but I doubt it), and it's also quite clear that they are MAI's most important costumer atm.

That still makes them much closer to "reseller" than to "producer", and no, putting a fancy A1-sticker onto it doesn't change anything.

This is very good news, but I'm still going to wait for the I version. Two reasons:

1. Built-in memory. I was very disappointed that I could not run the "100% guaranteed compatible" memory in my XE at 133MHz. Hopefully the one that's soldered on the actual board will work at full speed.
2. Much better (faster, more reliable) onboard IDE controller. Having a super-efficient OS doesn't mean a whole lot if the hardware's holding you back.

Yes, but unfortunately the CPU isn't upgradable...

I think the only thing really upgradable on these boards is the cpu...

So I will probably buy a C version when I can afford it.

XC is too distant in future...

Ah, I have a question: anyone know if the MicroA1's can use a normal ATX case ?

@Zorro:

I'm not that concerned that the CPU is not upgradable. So far, of the 5 or 6 x86 systems I've bought over the years, I was only able to upgrade the CPU on my 486 (from a DX2-80 to a DX4-120). Every single other system, either the CPU socket on the motherboard was obsolete so I could not buy a noticeably faster CPU (at least 50% faster clock) with the same socket, or the BIOS on the motherboard did not support the new CPUs (and there was no updated BIOS on the manufacturers webpage for that CPU). Plus, the price of a new motherboard is usually less than what I paid for the previous one, for a lot more power.

The reason why I think amigans tend to care about CPU upgradability is our history, where getting an accelerator was the only viable way to get a nice speed bump without paying a mint. On the other hand, I fully expect my next amiga upgrade to involve throwing out the motherboard (the micro is going to be not so much an upgrade as a way cool toy ). I'll keep the hard drive and sound card (hopefully not the gfx card - we'd better have support for AGPx8 or PCIe by the time the next big Amiga comes out)

@CodeSmith

But also for the (Micro)Amigaones I think that the hardware will last longer than a PC for many reason... (think also how much time has taken for Amigaone first and MicroA1 after to reach the market. Not to mention XC... )

For a "cool toy" I think that the C version is more right...

Yeah, I noticed that. Due 2005. Could be the micro's in a Fantasy case. Pity it is after Christmas though. My first Amiga A500 was bought over Christmas and remains one of my best Christmas's ever!

That is much better than the CrystalOrb that came with my A1XEG4, but I think I'll get the I-version anyway.

Kind regards,

Dennis
