   posted by Rogue on 5-Mar-2005 14:20:09 (20048 reads)
Leuven, Belgium - 3. March, 2005

Hyperion Entertainment is pleased to announce the immediate availability of a new AmigaOne firmware update for registered customers of AmigaOS 4.0. New features in this release include

- Improvements in the x86 BIOS emulator
- Reworked IDE/ATA-Code with better support of multiple IDE controllers
- Preliminary support for the Catweasel Mark IV controller by Individual Computers
- Ability to choose graphics card for booting
- Multiple bugs fixed, including a wrong IRQ assignment for AGP graphics cards (Vertical Blanking interrupts should now function correctly)

The update can be downloaded from the file area on Hyperion Entertainment's website.

@sundown

Yean that little command (Run) shaved of a cool 8-10 seconds from
my boot when I connected my µA1 to the net.
It was 6-8 sec before going online. After I had 15-20 sec. I was
really disappointed. After adding Run I'm back at under 10 sec.
Wonder why it doesn't have Run as default?

@thread

Great update Hyperion. Even faster boot time (cold boot) now.

Just installed the new slb, booted once to check.
Then Followed the simple instructions (diskboot, bootm & ok) and
everything worked just fine.

Thanks again Hyperion for all your hard work.

So where's the third OS4 update?

IIRC the uA1c does not have the via problems due to it being fixed. So is there any chance that we uA1c owners can have a DMA enabled driver?

Im going to do the flash either later tonight of later this week.

Heh, I actually had manually added the AddNetInterface (meaning it was duplicated) as initially no ethernet device was found on the system, so created the device and added the AddNetInterface call into startup, not seeing the original entry, so it was in there twice.

Run AFAIK doesn't wait for the return of the program execution, so it DID change my startup, but now for some dod reason I see workbench come up in something like 640x320 mode, see a requester for a screen resize (ie please close all programs other than drawers), and then it comes up in the correct mode. Am I missing something else in startup, or does everyone see this behavior on pre-2? (Guessing it's the former)

Thanks,

woohoo !

I never got round to updating to UBoot 1.1.1 before OS4pre-Update1 came out, as It wouldnt update off a partition. (I dont have a CDRW so I dumped it to a linux bootable partition, and then just boot the loader... it worked for the one before 1.1.1)

will it work from my MS stick ? OS4 USB-Inspector recognises it, and I can access it as a drive from OS4. I presume UBoot's USB tools should sort it out...

I guess it will be more worth it for me than for those who are reasonably up to date.

Also - I never got round to sending my Pre1 CD off to Italy, so is it worth holding off until Pre2 or Pre3 are on CD ? or should I just get me finger out ?

The same happened to me this morning, then I looked at the line again and noticed that I forgat the >NIL: redirection after the Run command. Check if your case is the same.

@ JCC

Yeah, I used one of those for a physics course. We used it to take data from an experiment. It had non-volatile magnetic core memory (little magnetic rings hand-strung on a grid of crossed wires). There was an annoying kid in the class (in college at age 13 majoring in physics) who was watching me program the second level bootstrap on a teletype and commented "You mean you're not a touch programmer?" The annoying part is, this kid was so smart, he really could just sit down at the console and start to type in assembler code as fast as he could type, load it into the machine, and it WORKED.

Back on topic: I'll download the update tonight. My micro A1 has a somewhat finicky ide bus: if the secondary (44 pin) header is unoccupied, I can put either a HD or a DVD on the primary header. However, if the secondary header has a device on it, then both a HD and DVD work together on the primary. Since I don't have room in my mini-itx case for two HDs and a DVD, I put an IDE to Compact Flash adapter onto the secondary header, with a 1GB CF card in it, then installed AOS4 onto the flash card. It boots just fine this way, with Workbench on the CF card and everything else on the HD. I don't know whether the new UBoot will affect this in any way -- probably not, since it seems more like a bus hardware issue than something that could be fixed by a different initialization. Anyway, it works now.

Thanks for the update!

Nope, it's redirected, although a few other lines for LoadMonDrvs and others aren't. I've actually put it back to 'broken' for the moment, as at least now it doesn't reposition AmiDock as it's in lower res...other suggestions? Otherwise I'll much with it over the weekend..

Sorry, not trying to 'hijack' the news!

@Rogue

Umm, why is the CW IV so unstable? I ran the firmware update for awhile and all appeared to good as always I installed CW and and the OS went insane; after the system lockup and removed the card. Anything ever going to change on this?

@Valiant

Are you running stable? I wanted to checkout my Amiga Keybrd, but couldn't run stable for twenty mins. before system lockup. All the same traits as CWIII.

Right now I am, but that's because I took the Catweasel out. I also was experiencing all the same traits as the CW-III. Anyway the firmware update was not meant to correct the problems with the Catweasel, according to Rogue in another thread the upcoming OS update will. But in the meantime I took yours and Ivan's suggestion from the thread in the A1 owners forum and made up a Kickstart that contains the cia.resource.kmod module from the original pre-release. In fact I've cold-booted and am testing it right now. If there doesn't appear to be any problems running with it, I'll just need to find some excuse to reinstall the CW-IV and see if it works that way. ;^)

There is no OS support yet for the Catweasel Mark IV. The support is only in U-Boot, and you need an appropriate driver to support it in OS 4.

@Rogue

The CW Mk4 can be flashed into a CW Mk3 emulation mode (AFAIK). This means that without the kernel update that fixed the CW Mk3 (man I loved that update ), OS4 would be just as unstable as with a CW Mk3 attached.

My U-Boot update went well. But I have another problem, soft reset of aos4 doesnt work. it just hangs, nothing to do with U-Boot update but maybe with os update2.

My "Uboot" went not so well, I installed the new SLB on L: and changed in MediaToolbox. This worked fine for booting several times and decided to update UBoot after hardly getting the image to a cd.

(Not a registered version at the moment of a cd burning program but they're not very compatible with my cd-rw burners or just too complicated for me...)

The install never started, like should following the pdf document just Bad Magic Numbers. I have a Sil-card so I read a some info of setenv things and tried this and that and now, only

---Disk Summary----

comes out and when typing boota:

...Loadsector failed
Found an HD
FLB: no SLB found in any disk; returning to uboot.

Yesterday I got AOS update1 CD to boot and all my partitions were found correctly. I changed the earlier SLB back and no cd booting today.

Something wise to type perhaps?

(This is still uboot 1.1.1. In the Sil-card there are 1 main hd, one extra, dvdcdrw combo and an extra cdrom all worked well before this moron did some "magic":)

Do you have your CD drive connected on a Sil card? If so, you can't boot on it with the old 1.1.1 Uboot. So of course, you can't update Uboot this way.
In this case you have to connect your CD drive on the internal IDE ports and boot from there.
