Okay,hmm

There have been discussions on various websites about users rather bad experiences with current dealers in reguards to boards in stock, shipping, and service. Even Mr. Hare mentioned difficulty in purchasing an AmigaOne. What is Eyetech doing or planning to do to improve dealer issues?

What is in your opinion the most interesting information for non-NDA-people you are allowed to give by this opportunity?

Thanks.

Well...

Here's one:

If repairing boards voids the warranty, why do you care if anyone knows how it's done? IOW what's with the NDAs and only allowing "certain dealers" to do it? If a warranty is shot, it doesn't matter if the dealer did it or if I did it. So why not tell people how to fix their boards? Particularly US based A1 users who have no other recourse beyond waiting for up to a month or more to get them fixed? (Shades of DCE here...)

Secondly, why should people have to pay to get the boards fixed in the first place? If the boards were so fundamentally broken when you had them built, then certainly that's not the fault of the people who bought them, is it?

1) The GX cpu that Eyetech fitted on almost all the µA1 are causing some random issues to the users and, mostly important, to Hyperion and other developers (Ibrowse). If this will take to a hardware fault, do you plan to replace those cpu modules (this is an end-user board) ?

2) You have plans to expand the hardware market with linux but it has some troubles that aren't addressed yet like dma, 3D, GX support... are you addressing these ?

3) Is MAI still your only partner for hardware designs ?

4) Let's party !!!

How does one apply to become an official and/or approved rework facility for AmigaOne motherboard modifications?

/msg mrredhouse ask:

Up until Summer 2003, Total Amiga magazine contained the always informative 'Alan Redhouse Column', and full page advertisements for the AmigaOne.

Do you intend to re-commence advertising/publicity for the AmigaOne, and hopefully also your column in Total Amiga?

Must go on with these warranties... I've changed several A500's when they came,
then digiboxes,vacuum-cleaners, tv:s, coffee-makers, an ADSL modem and a
microwave recently. My work and myself consuming some. All have been replaced
even if the offer had gone and the price was higher, I got the same kind,
better one or money back.Even used a drilling machine from China for 1000 hours
and the smoke comes out: get a fresh one for free! (With some extras also)

This is not a best place to be with "several" systems not working and trying
to understand this situation but if there is a guarantee, should I blame the
dealer, the dealer the supplier and they to the manufacter who has the cheapest way
to do something. China?

I loved when Amiga's were made in USA or Germany and they worked.
Then terrified:Filippines,HongKong...China... I think these people make
the best job today for a good price so no bad talking from me! Please.
Now Everybody has gone East (Or West fo somebody?:) and the prices have dropped but
why there is no warranty to afford then from the maybe profit?

Get it, use it and use it more to destroy it if a new equipment and get a
working version with updates for free for supporting. This is betatesting!

It seems dealers and owners are having problems sorting out what types of devices will work in the uA1 and which won't. Examples include RAM modules, riser cards, wireless PCI cards, PCI graphics cards. Has or does Eyetech plan to do testing of various devices in order to provide guidelines for recommedned expansions which will work with the uA1 products or future motherboards that might become available?

Why asking is A1 XC going to happen? Why are you so pesimistic?
I'm asking when is it going to happen? (1. question)
As mmany of us I'll buy it imediately.
What about upgrade modules for XE? (2. question)
And also modules for XC, I want to buy it with dual G4 7448B @ 1.6 Ghz?
What about scsi, s-ata, usb 2.0, firewire, GLAN... expansion cards?
Also graphics, sound cards and RAM modules...
They should test them, (someone to write drivers for them) and tell us
what suits our A1 best i.e. to make better support for other hardware
that we put inside (I think they should do it) (3. question)

And something for (far) future (hope not so far)
Any plans for A1 with G5(IBM 970)/Articia I chipset? (4. and final question)

Tomo

P.S.

This is great what you are doing for us!

I would seriously like to ask him if the prototype that Mai has created for the PX chipset will be the next AmigaOne. Because that would seriously be a very good expandable AmigaOne ATX motherboard.

Edit:

And I might add not just ask him about "Will there be another XC?". Really ask if the AGP, PCI-X, PCI-64, PCI 8 slot prototype that is created by Mai is the one. That is a serious motherboard.

Alan, at the Bath show 2003 you said that the Amiga was in the "hobby" market.

With the 'hobby" market in mind:

1) What are your thoughts regarding including schematics with the purchase of each A1?

2) Your thoughts regarding releasing the specs for the MegArray CPU, so that other companies might sell upgrades etc.

It's been stated by dealers that there is a 1.3GHz CPU upgrade module in the works which should be available in March 2005 time frame. Can you confirm that this is the case and, if so, give us an update on the status? Specs, release date, price, etc.

If a large China, or other large, deal doesn't come through, is the current demand for Amgia One boards enough to support continued manufacturing and investment?

Supply of uA1 boards to dealers seems to be a problem. What is Eyetech doing to address this problem?

Does Eyetech have an exclusive license on the manufacturing of motherboards which can run OS4 and would Eyetech have to be part of the approval if other manufactures wanted to obtain a license to produce motherboards which run OS4?

Do you (Eyetech) have any plans to actively market and promote the Amiga One once OS4 is completed and released? Do these plans include trying to attract users outside the current Amiga users?

In the past you have been willing to share the roadmap for how your company plans to be sucessful in the Amiga market. Can we get an update on the progress you've made on that roadmap and any updates or changes you have made to the roadmap, which would help ensure the Amiga One's success?

Ok, that's all for now. Hopefully the moderators will find some of these questions useful.

Will you release a cheaper version of the microA1 using an industrial ppc? MPC8054 or so...?

Market needs something CHEAPER. That cpu is perfect because doesn't require a northbridge, uses low power, you can solder it to the motherboard etc...

Do you plan to license OS4 for Mac hardware? and what about Freescale hardware?

Really good One! Whats happening now after the promoting?
Waiting for the next Total Amiga mag and I hope there are some "news" advertisement.

We really got it sometime before, on and after AmigaFormat from some ads.
(Got still the hundreds of AMags collection for some reason?)

For these who want the specs of the new A1XC/Mindwalker (Sorry):
I also want the latest stuff for us because we are many years behind the
pc friends (?) but what we have now! Is it the One we had waited for?
For starters at least.

I asked a question from Petro Tsyzchenko(sorry for..:) about a new Graphics etc.
chipset years ago before there was a new Amiga at sight and he told me
"Dont't put me in a corner" so let Alan be, he ain't a PR-man..
