Software News   Software News : Flashback the game! Reborn on Amiga!
   posted by Toaks on 4-Apr-2005 20:24:09 (6715 reads)
A few minutes ago i dumped REminiscene 0.1.4 onto os4depot.

REminiscence is a re-implementation of the engine used in the game Flashback
made by Delphine Software and released in 1992.

The well known game should be very welcome to all OS4 users out there.

it's downloadable from http://os4depot.net/

The engine currently only supports PC version.

Screenshots of Flashback can be found here: http://hol.abime.net/568/screenshot

Small note: The Engine has sound/music and video support.

enjoy this wicked game.

Big "Thank you" to frak for the makefiles and to mrcapehill for his interest in helping out when sorely needed.

enjoy guys and thanx to szaman for reminding me.

(Amiga mod files is needed only)

Good news indeed. But how do you get a hold of the game? I guess it is hard to buy it now, is it downloadable from anywhere (I of course mean legally)?

Anyone else have a problem that this game plays too fast? As it is now it's almost unplayable. Also the music is not in sync with the animations (plays too fast). I had to change the names of the mod files to get music to work at all...

Salass00:

yes its a tad too fast but thats one of the problems with theese enterpreters, same goes for another world , another world 2 , prince of persia and flashback sadly.

though its not like its a big problem.

if you want it abit more like the amiga orginal in terms of speed then use the scaling buttons and run it in fullscreen.

from the top of my head iirc its ALT (hold) and press +/- on the keypad.

cheers

salass00:btw i dont know which version of lfashback Amiga u have but my version where identical to what the engine wanted in terms of names.

if you want you can always look at the sources and change stuff or even suggest it to the CVS , its not like there is no way out or anything.

@Toaks

Thanks, that helped a little.

Isn't that what a FPS limiter is for? Any game that relies on constant FPS should have this IMO. All a FPS limiter needs to do is ensure that every frame takes a certain minimum of time to complete. This ensures that FPS stays constant even on much faster CPUs.

@Toaks

Sure, it will need to be implemented in the game's main loop (or loops) of course. I assume SDL does implement some sort of timer code, right? If not, it definitely should!

(and my classic plays the 68k and wos version at same speed too)
