Chaos Union and Hyperion Entertainment VOF announced today that recording artist Susumu Hirasawa will deliver a boot jingle created specifically for AmigaOS 4.0. Two additional tracks will also be included on the AmigaOS 4.0 CD to showcase Hirasawa's music.

About Susumu Hirasawa

Susumu Hirasawa is a highly acclaimed recording artist. He has written soundtracks for commercial successes such as Millenium Actress, Paranoia Agent, the Beserk tv-series and videogame, and he is currently working on his latest cd-release. Since 1979 he helped defined Japanese pop-techno in the group P-MODEL and launched his first solo album in 1989. Since the mid-90s Hirasawa has toured with his Interactive Live Show utilizing Amigas with the support of Amiga user group of Japan(FAMIGA) for a spectacular interactive multimedia performance.

About Hyperion Entertainment VOF

Hyperion Entertainment is a privately held Belgian-German company, founded in March of 1999. The company specializes in 3D graphics and the conversion of top-quality entertainment software from Windows to niche-platforms including Amiga, Linux (x86,PPC) and MacOS (OS 9/X).

Hyperion Entertainment has undertaken contract-work in the field of 3D graphics for companies such as Monolith (www.lith.com) and has developed a mature, fast, small foot-print technology to bring 3D graphics to low power digital devices such as PDAs and STBs.

Hyperion is currently working on AmigaOS 4.0, a vastly enhanced PPC native incarnation of the groundbreaking OS introduced by Commodore in 1985.

To be honest, I don't even know how this is done at all, so I can't tell you. I'm not in any way involved with this (i.e. I don't write the code for that).

No, really, I'm just the kernel guy.

hmm I don't know if this is a good idea..

I'm all ready quite annoyed about the XP start sound, so I hope there is a mute option installed.

@samo79

Disbale it? Is there any way of changing it? I'm rather partial to HAL9000 saying "What are you doing, Dave?". It seems ... appropriate.

You need another one to play when the computer is actually ready to use.
Maybe add more for malfunctions and then we'll have music all day.

so does that mean it's possible to have our own jingles in there?

it would be a nice feature to have different sounds that way our creative
community could bung together loads and loads of jingles just incase
we don't like the one that is finally decided on.

what we dont want is to be stuck with some god-aweful "bah bah bah bahhhh!"
and not be able to change it around.

No disrespect of course. I'm sure that whatever Chaos Union and Hyperion chose will actually be quite cool in it's own right

cheers

First thing I do on any new windows install. It annoys me more than that bloody frog (actually, I lie, bit it's a close run thing). I disable all the other annoying beeping pointless crappy noises as well, so my apologies if my reaction to this news is luke warm.

Great, but I hope I will be able to turn it off or change it to something else

I listened to the samples, and I must say that it sounds good, but sadly it's not my taste....

But nice that we will be able to let OS4 play something at startup, as long as it doesn't slow the boot proces.

Cheers

Martin

@Metalheart

Well, it's quite different from what you can find on his homepage. It was after all composed specifically for AmigaOS 4.

As for slowing down the boot process, well, it takes equally long booting the A1 here while playing a sample is it does without one :)

What would a kernel be without intuition ? Or DOS ?

The cool thing is that everybody in the team is important

Hey that's cool. I remember with my old A1200 I had bootup sequence,
or whatever it was called, with white screen coming up
and then the text would start to show

" AMIGA
Multimedia station

Procesor type 680ec20...
Coprocesor type
.
.
.
"

while in the backround I had a very cool bluse sample going.
It was the coolest Amiga in the hood

@Trezzer

So does the jingle play during the whole boot process or is it just a short bit that plays when it starts to boot? I prefer that to a sound that starts playing when the Workbench is loaded. I've always kinda liked the way that Sony did the short sound bit, followed by their animated logo when you power up a Vaio. Something like that would be really nice.

@ EntilZha
