Software News   Software News : Wet 3.0 released
   posted by Chris_Y on 1-Jun-2005 18:32:03 (7558 reads)
Wet 3.0 - the weather program for OS4 - has just been released to OS4Depot.

New features include weather condition icons on the Workbench screen (many thanks to Ken of Ken's Icons for the icons), an ARexx port and lots of smaller changes.

This version has a completely rewritten decoding engine so should be much more stable than previous versions (if it didn't work for you before, it should now)

@Niolator

You will only see the info when Workbench itself has control of the titlebar (ie. when you have the usual memory stats on display).

You need to add weather info by modifying the titlebar using Workbench prefs (you need OS4 Update 1 to do this). The AmigaGuide's installation section explains in more detail how to do this and the values you need.

Regards
Chris

@sicky

I can tell you that it is raining in Southend-On-Sea

Try adding the following tooltype, the others look normal:
MSERVER=205.156.51.200

Hmm, very strange. The MSERVER line is definately on its own line, with no dodgy tabs or anything near it? Try moving it to the bottom with a blank line above and below, just to make sure.

Yes it was the last line with no tabs or spaces or anything, I also tried what you said (blank line above & below) and I get the same error all the time!!!

I am up to date with the very latest beta build and everything else network related is just fine!

I just deleted Wet and all associated files and re-installed and I still get the "cannot resolve IP address" message. I have also entered the line MSERVER=205.156.51.200 in the tooltypes and it no longer gives the error it did before but still gives the "cannot resolve IP address" error?

Strange things happened here, first I installed it over older version and it appeared to work okay. Now after a reboot when I run Wet it reports "Cannot resolve IP address"???

I have totally removed the program and re-installed from fresh but still get same error, it did manage to find my nearest weather forcaster (Southend) with no problems when I entered my latitide & longtitude coords!

Any ideas?

I have the same problem here. Hope the solution is found soon...

Great Work!
Nice Icons.

BTW my icons will come too, but I had bigger problems the last 3 months! (Exams, several deaths cases, and illness)

The IP not resolving problem was in version 2 too!
If I start Wet from WBStartup again and do click on update everything is OK.

I think because the program starts from WBstartup internet isn't set up yet. But I'm not sure.
I tried to do a Wait 1 minute in the tooltypes but that didn't remedy the problem.

@Chris_Y

I searched my city and found it, entered coordinates and Wet suggested a nearest station which it loacted and all is fine. But when I click update it taks a couple of seconds then a message "No data available" pops up. What to do?

At one occasion I even got a recoverable alert (yellow box at the top of the screen, which I forgot to read) followed by a "Could not connect to server" message. What to do?

@Deniil715

The recoverable alert is bad (what were you doing at the time?). No data available means precisely that: you will need to change the ICAO code to a different nearby site. Sometimes if you try again later this error corrects itselfs, but not normally.

Chris

@sicky and others with network connection problems

Please replace the executable with this version: Wet3 test and try again. Let me know the result.

Thanks
Chris

Yep, that did the trick, works fine now, what did you change if I may ask?

@sicky

Pretty much nothing. Instead of passing the server's hostname from outside the network connect routine, I defined the variable within it. My suspicion is that something is overwriting memory (as evidenced by the obscure location being accessed when you added the MSERVER tooltype). We need to find what is different between the configs it was working on, and those it wasn't.

I'll upload a new archive later in the week with optimisation on and debug off, I'm waiting for another updated translation and it makes sense to do it all at the same time.

Chris

Sorry to say that the new executable did not help to clear up the problem for me.

(I am using a uA1, pre update 2)

@PEB

Are you getting exactly the same problem? ie. it doesn't work even if you click "Update" again?

(and apologies for asking the obvious, but you did quit the currently running version before starting the new one, didn't you?)

@Chris_Y

Sorry for not going into more detail. My only problem is when I first boot into OS4 with "Wet" in my WBStartUp dir. I get the message: "Cannot resolve IP address." But then if I bring up Wet and click on "Update," everything works OK. Then no more problems until I restart my computer.
