Question:

what will the minimum hardware requirements be on a classic Amiga to run OS4?
Of course PPC-card, but will AGA be enough, or is a gfx-card a must ?

*edit* added to run OS4

OS4 & USB question:

I have a powered USB hub running. Optical mouse and a "Cruzer" are plugged in and running fine from cold boot. However, a program screwsup -- and I do a WARM RESET -- ctrl+A+A. Now, the hub goes dead! The 'green' LEDS are out, 'red' LED is on. Who killed the USB hub? BTW, this doesn't happen in linux with--A1#: shutdown now! =:o I think UBOOT was tapped and crapped it all up! True/false? Can RESET be re-defined?

(Hardware=Belkin 4port powered hub PN#F5U234)

It's 12 minutes past 1 but who would be compiling the questions this late?

Question is: Who runs the business side of Hyperion? Like who is the Finance Director or who is the Marketing Director. It seems, but surely it cannot be, a bunch of programmers are running the business. Perhaps this could be cleared up.

Hello,

About the mystery device: Is it intended for use at home?

Are there any drivers for commonly available SCSI boards planned for OS4?

Will OS4(final) ship with a native version of Turboprint?

As long as I can't use a scanner with the AmigaOne/OS4, I'll need a second computer or OS. How can we use scanners with OS4(final) on the AmigaOne?

Will OS4(final) include drivers and software to use TV-tuner boards?

Are there any tutorials about programming for OS4 that are suitable for beginners?

Are there any more Uboot updates planned before OS4final ships?

Are there any plans to release a port of OS4 for more powerful hardware than an AmigaOne in the near future?

Kind regards,

Dennis

I would prefer a proper ring-bound printed manual - then we'd have one up on Windows at the off!

Me too... But in case of lack of funds a digital manual will do. A PDF to print yourself or whatever.

I'd even pay for a ringbound one

Martin

ps, Better make this a 200 questions with Hyperion

@ HYPERION

What is the overhead of useing PC little endian gfx cards
versus Mac style big endian cards.

How much graphics performance is lost due to endian swapping ???

Wol..

@Wol

I'm not really qualified to answer this, but I believe most modern graphics cards support both.

I haven't read the entire thread, so apologies if this three part question, in part or as a whole, is a repeat.

Given the Mr. Redhouse's comments, I'm somewhat dismayed about the Amiga platform's future as anything other than an "enthusiast" (read dead-end, if I understand the euphemism correctly) desktop OS or a faceless embedded OS. Is this also your opinion? Or do you think that there really is a market for the AmigaOS as the basis of a 'mainstream' consumer product? One, that is to say, that we Amiga users will actually recognize as the AmigaOS?

Lister: Ssshhh!

Toaster: I mean, what's the point of buying a toaster with artificial intelligence if you don't like toast?

Lister: I do like toast!

Toaster: I mean, this is my job! This is cruel! Just cruel!

Lister: Look, I'm busy!

Toaster: Oh, you're not busy eating toast, are you?

Lister: I don't want any!!

Toaster: I mean, the whole purpose of my existence is to serve you with hot, buttered, scrummy toast. If you don't want any, then my existence is meaningless.

Lister: Good.

Toaster: I toast, therefore I am.

Lister: Will you shut up?!

I could not resist... I always wished Toastie the Toaster was given a more prominent role on Red Dwarf. I mean Holly had the "brain the size of a planet" (well 6,000 PE teachers anyway) and Kryten the anthropomorphic body, but Toatie had some of Marvin's angst... And Marvin is my all time favorite android.

"I got very bored and depressed, so I went and plugged myself in to its external computer feed. I talked to the computer at great length and explained my view of the Universe to it," said Marvin. "And what happened?" pressed Ford. "It committed suicide."

Marvin, I love you
Marvin I love you
Remember, I'm programmed for you
I know we're worlds apart
Still you could break my heart
Loving you is all I can do
Marvin, I love you
Marvin I love you

My questions for Hyperion:
- Do you have any intentions of developing the following software along with the OS4:

a) os4 dvd/vcd player for playing commercial dvds - this is available with most of OSes (or with dvd players) Mplayer is still lacking in functionality (tried 2 dvd drives, both work fine in Linux), and to be a multimedia os, os4 needs this at least.

b) support for catweasel MK4 (mainly floppy drive support) or someone is working on it? (if so when it will become available?)

c) better Amiga shell (so that scroll bars are available for vertical scrolling)

d) cd/dvd burning software or support (there are still issues.)

- DMA issues: are there any on Micro A1s, XEs?
Why is DMA disabled on OS4 by default?

- what applications do you use and have gotten to work with OS4? (yeah yeah i know there's intuitionbase/os4depot ,but i'm interested in your favorite applications)

- what tools are available to developers as far as porting & writing new applications on OS4?

i realize that some of the questions may cover long term goals.I think more questions will come after your update #3.

When the A1 XE's first became readily available, it was suggested by dealers like Mr. Hardware Computers, and I think Hyperion as well, that Scripts based controllers would be supported. Is this still going to be the case? If so, will it appear before the 'final' release? Also, at what point will the CatWeasle III be supported - especially for reading of Amiga floppy disks? I already have an Asus Scripts based scsi controller and the CatWeasle III and would very much like to be able to use them. Thanks.

- Which are the most important SW development areas in the next three years (not including Amiga OS) and is Hyperion planning to be part in any way of these projects?
- What do Hyperion belivie is the main target for the Amiga OS (settop box, mobile, desktop with Cell CPU...) within the next 5 years?

Keep up the good work Hyperion!
