Software News   Software News : M-Audio Revolution 7.1 supported
   posted by DaveAE on 22-Jun-2005 15:29:24 (7379 reads)
The high quality M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card is now supported on OS4 by an AHI driver made by Davy Wentzler. The card has 2 inputs, 8 outputs and a digital out. More information on the card can be found here.

The card will be supported by the Envy24HT driver which already supports the Terratec Aureon 5.1 Sky, 7.1 Space and Phase28. Although untested, it is to be expected that the M-Audio Revolution 5.1 will also work with the same driver.

Thanks to Bill Toner for supporting driver development for this card. The driver will be uploaded to OS4depot in the coming days.

Great news!

Can you tell us something about your new sound system?

Will it support full 24bit-(192KHz-2ch/96KHz-5.1 ch)
Will it support digital in/out
Will it support DTS/Dolby Digital

@Dave

I have already lost the count of how many sound cards supported...if you find time some day, would be so kind and write some kind of summary chart about different cards? (features)

Thanks :)

@mepmepmep

A USB Midi driver for CAMD is being worked on. Once that is available, the Oxygen8 should just work. I have an Evolution UC-33 as remote for AE4 which works as well (not using USB, but the normal MIDI sockets).

Hoi Davy!

Is the spdif out supported with the driver? Any chance to support HW accelerated PCM/AC3/DTS decoding?

It would be nice if we could implement them for the movie players. (moovid & DvPlayer & mplayer)

@chip

Yes, the s/pdif out is supported as on all other envy24ht based cards. These chips are not DSP's in the sense that you can execute programs on it, so no, there is no hw acceleration possible.

@chip

It lists:
"PCM, AC-3 and DTS "

That means it can play these 3 formats, the last 2 only on the digital out and when they are delivered in that format to the driver (like from the DVD for instance).

What do you mean under " it can play these 3 formats" ?

Push out the encoded dts signal and leave the amplifier to decode it or I must always decode the sound and send the result in a special way to the card?

It can only play encoded dts or ac-3 streams through the digital out, letting the amp decode it. It can't decode such streams itself for the analogue outputs.

I was just curious so I went looking... This seems to be the card for sale at newegg and it's only $85 including shipping. That seems like a great deal if it's really such a step up from an Audigy2**. (This is not an advertisement)

@samwel

It will support any samplerate and an arbitrary number of channels. Digital in/out will be supported too, but this is already supported in AHI.
It will also be possible to send DTS and Dolby digital streams to the digital out (if available).

@DaveAE

Hmm, could this be the fix for my problem, too?

@Raziel

I haven't done any fixes. The stack out of bound thing is not related to the driver I think, since that would then occur as well on the Phase28 and M-Audio.
