Events   Events : Pianeta Amiga 2005 Show Report
posted by Lecta on 5-Sep-2005 10:56:16 (16356 reads)
I post this report as a news so maybe it will be more visible...

Pianeta Amiga took place last week-end in Empoli, near Florence, Italy.

This is a brief report on what's happened at the show.

Os4 was shown on many AmigaOnes (both micros and XEs) and on a Amiga1200PPC and a Amiga4000PPC (they had the BPPC/BVISION and CPPC/CVISION combo). Although the raw speed isn't really comparable to the speed on the AmigaOne, OS4 worked very well and amazingly fast (for the hardware it was running on).

There were some micros on sale (you can contact VirtualWorks, Soft3 and Alternative Techonoly to check if they have something still in stock).

The screen dragging feature was shown on my A1XE together with all the latest beta stuff. For the first time in Amiga History was shown a new useful feature: drag & drop of Icons between differents screens (thanks to Massimo Tantignone for implementing this feature!).

During the show Andrea Vallinotto held two conferences, one aimed to the users and another one aimed to the developers. Andrea made the announcement that OS4 is already running on the 405PPC processor from IBM. This processor is used mainly for HandHeld devices.
Like already said in other places the planned release of OS4 Final is by the end of the year (yes, THIS year, hopefully ).

A reporter from "Punto-Informatico", an importan on-line Italian IT site, was here to do a report of the show.

Some dealers were present selling Amiga Stuff (and micros of course): Virtual Works, Soft3 and Alternative Technology.

Michele Magliocca was also present with his Pegasos showing MOS and the latest stuff for this system.

There were many other things to see (Zeta, OS4Games.it - a new site dedicated to games for OS4 but only in italian for now - AmigaPlatform, Bitplane with the last issue of the magazine and other I probably forgot).

I've no doubt however, that Hyperion still have their Arianes, and as soon as Hyperion could get independent from AInc and their braindead licensing terms, they'll use this possibility. (Which would be great, of course.)

Considering AROS has everything to gain and nothing to lose from spreading rumours about "braindead" licensing failures with Amiga Inc. I don't believe anyone involved with AROS would be the best source of factual information about such private licensing deals.

Taking into consideration what the past behavior of AROS has been towards AOS4 and AOS in general I would just say that your position doesn't seems to stick together. I don't even know if you're stirring trouble just for the sake of it or if you're being real at all in your purpose...

What AROS has to gain is beyond me, how many developers will it bring and not forgetting also that its main target is x86, besides taking into consideration that it is public knowledge that AHT Europe has approached Amiga Inc. and that it was its demise who made them look at AROS as an alternative.
I bet next you'll start pretending that Acill is too an AROS supporter, just for the sake of your argumentation.

I hope you just stop this witch hunt altogether, and if you don't know the facts, you should really stand quiet, if you don't want to see it's your problem, trying to shut others eyes is another...

Up to my knowledge the mystery device [...] is/was AHT's Ariane

I wonder where you get this 'knowledge' then?

(You are wrong, by the way...)

There are far too many cases where misinformation and rumours are spread around; vague theories described as fact; second hand information passed on; and too often started deliberately just to cause trouble. (Not that I believe this was your intention, but who knows what the intention of the source of this was?)

I do wish people would be a little more careful about what they say, unless they have real information to give and/or are prepared to also provide sources to backup their claim.

I guess we'll find out sooner or later what this mystery device is, won't we? :) Until then there's not much point in guessing and making rumours based on ... rumours. Wait for an official announcement from Hyperion.

V-Dragon (from Culturecom HK) is a CPU based on PowerPC 405. This CPU is supported by IBM and promoted by Hewlett Packard. There are millions of device based on V-Dragon: TAX / Point of Sales devices, e-textbook, and Chinese Network Computers.
Culturecom had bought the code morphing Emulator patents from Transmeta.

Is this device related to Amiga OS 4?

You "thought" this, why? Because somebody else said so, or because you made a guess? Again, it's vague statements that help fuel these rumours. Speculation is fair enough, but at least include a clear disclaimer so that others can know how much credibility to apply to it.

I don't just say this in connection to the 'mystery device', but as a general rule in the AmigaOS forum world. There is so much rumour and innuendo going around on a range of subjects; it must be really difficult for outside readers to have a clear picture of what is what.

(It's not the Troika either, by the way.)

This better be my final word on the subject before we end up going through the entire range of hardware/devices that exist in the world, and probably even some that don't exist. Rest assured that if/when a statement is deemed necessary, people here will hear about it from the appropriate sources. Believe me, it's not the kind of thing that will go by unnoticed.

According to the AROS team, AHT were unable to get a license with proper terms from Amiga Inc. so they moved to use AROS instead.

Actually, that's according to AHT themselves. The matter has been discussed many times already in the past, I'm surprised there's still misunderstandings about it.

The official AHT line is that AInc came out with last-minute conditions that AHT weren't satisfied with, so they moved on... to AROS.

No one in the AROS team ever talked about "braindead" licensing terms of any sorts, even if we wanted we couldn't, as we don't have any knowledge of those licensing terms.

Anything said on the matter has been said by AHT themselves, anything certain exponents of the AROS team, including myself, said on the matter is nothing but a subset of what AHT themselves said.

As for having anything to "gain" about spreading false information, would you please be so kind to explain what would there be to gain about it? Thanks.
