Troika Progress Report

Please read on....

Before we start...
We would firstly like to thank all those who have written emails wishing us luck with our project. Its the enthusiasm of you, the users that drives us. Thank you!

Beta Testers
Many of you have expressed an interest in becoming a beta tester for the "Prometheus" motherboard. Rest assured, that we have been working this plan out. Please address all inquiries about beta testing to us, and not Hyperion, they have OS4 to finish, and we all need it done.

Sales/Dealers
Again, we are overwhelmed by the interest expressed by many dealers and individuals about selling our product, we apologize for not returning your emails, We haven't forgotten you, but our total focus currently is getting the new motherboard completed. Rest assured, we will be in touch.

About the "Prometheus" Board
The place to visit on September 24th, Big Bash 3 UK. and the launch of our web site.
We look forward to releasing more details to many of the questions that have been asked.. Provided all our electronic parts show on time, we will have one of our prototypes available at Big Bash 3.

Well from what has been discussed in the past on other forums here, the price of $500 USD has been mooted. (projected price)

That's fine, but as you know, here in "RIP-OFF BRITAIN" that price will change to £500 wont it, despite the "dollar is worth bugger all" exchange rate?

I hope I'm proved wrong!

I just thought it might be a better idea to call it something else to:

a). Avoid confusion and
b). Avoid any legal issues

I was wondering, if it's designed to mainly run AmigaOs4, why isn't the board called (or contain the word) Amiga?

Well, I have looked up what Prometheus meant on the net, and from what I can see, the name could be interpreted to mean many things...

Seems fitting for a Next-Gen Amiga

Well, if they ever get a licence it means that there is some sort of discrimination going in the air as Acill wasn't even able to *get in touch* with the representatives...

Of course there is discrimination going on. Amiga Inc. has every right to choose who they trust and do business with just like any individual can. But whether we agree with their decision regarding the well publicized offering from Acill or not is irrelevent to Troika's efforts. This is Troika's time to be in the lime light. Best of luck to Troika and we look forward to seeing OS4 running on their new board ASAP.

Wouldn't it be rather odd to invest a large sum of money into the development of a new motherboard without even knowing whether it will be allowed to run the OS in your target market? Seems like a substantial amount of risk to take. I would guess something has been worked out already.

Then again, perhaps there are more markets Troika isn't talking about just yet? Hopefully our spies at BB3 will be able to come up with some answers.

To be fair it would be rather odd to invest a large sum of money into the Amiga market period. All due respect to Troika of course and I sincerely hope that they can provide a viable solution.

The fact that they are going to be at BB3 is a very positive sign and shows that they are indeed interested in making a true new Amiga. A tie up with Project Reality would be nice too - but perhaps they have their own cases?

No offence - but they could do with a new logo too - looks very dated. Constructive criticism.

Just a Thought!

Is it not possible that they could sell the boards to Eyetech and not have to worry about a Licence, seeing as Eyetech already have said Licence?

@Troika

Great to hear that the first prototype(s) are being shown to the grand public.
As I can't visit UK for now (my 2 months vacancy are over now ), when will we see these boards in other regions of Europe (for me neighbourhood of Luxembourg like Bruxelles, Metz, Cologne etc.) would be great!

Or even better when can I buy such a board?

Correct. Nothing to do with each other at all. It was mentioned in another thread somewhere that this was accidental and there might be a name change iirc

nah, think I read its a "project" name, nothing more

I'll bet Mikey C has been testing this motherboard.
