Troika Progress Report

Please read on....

Before we start...
We would firstly like to thank all those who have written emails wishing us luck with our project. Its the enthusiasm of you, the users that drives us. Thank you!

Beta Testers
Many of you have expressed an interest in becoming a beta tester for the "Prometheus" motherboard. Rest assured, that we have been working this plan out. Please address all inquiries about beta testing to us, and not Hyperion, they have OS4 to finish, and we all need it done.

Sales/Dealers
Again, we are overwhelmed by the interest expressed by many dealers and individuals about selling our product, we apologize for not returning your emails, We haven't forgotten you, but our total focus currently is getting the new motherboard completed. Rest assured, we will be in touch.

About the "Prometheus" Board
The place to visit on September 24th, Big Bash 3 UK. and the launch of our web site.
We look forward to releasing more details to many of the questions that have been asked.. Provided all our electronic parts show on time, we will have one of our prototypes available at Big Bash 3.

Well we don't have long to wait so this shouldn't be as drawn out as the iWin thing which looked bizarre right from the get go.

Ian Steadman has made huge contributions to the Amiga community over the years and if he is involved this project is not a hoax.

Whether there is the commerical backing, project management and resources to see this through to dealers is another matter.

Best of luck to everyone involved in this exciting project.

For anyone with short memories, here some stuff direct from Iwin:
http://www.cucug.org/amiga/aminews/1999/990816-iwin.html
http://web.archive.org/web/19991124163606/http://www.iwin-corp.com/

More convincing than Troika so far, IMHO. We will just have to wait and see. I just hope that Mikey C can say "I told you so"...

P.S. I find it hard to believe that Troika is Hyperion's mystery PPC system, since there is no way that they can have OS4 running on a PPC board that hasn't even been made yet! Anyone care to point a link where Hyperion do confirm it? Or is this another "he said she said"-type rumour?

It has already been said several times that the Troika board was not the "Mystery Device"(tm).

@ ChrisH

What has IWIN got to do with this.

They're is a reason why the IWIN Hoax was done, you just have to know who to ask.

I can say is it Vapor until you can buy it. Just like the BoXer, ABOX etc.

Are the BoXer, ABOX literally a Hoax?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoax

"A hoax is an attempt to trick an audience into believing that something false is real"

They never went gold but . . .

@Rogue

Hmm.. That must then mean you knew about Troika. If so then
lets skip the hoax discussion from now on.

Sheesh, some people.

We have to give the Amiga community a break on this one. Speculation about whether this whole thing is a hoax is not out of place given our checkered history. Why not let us have some fun pulling old quotes from an abandoned web page and such. Mulder is on the case.

Seriously though, until I see a motherboard with OS4 running on it I know I'll remain cautiously optimistic about any such ventures. Best of luck to Troika.

That's why I myself would prefer things were kept behind closed doors until ready to demo. Don't let the community bog you down with conspiracy theory discussions and things like that. Keeping things secret until ready for sale or at least working prototype can be shown would save a lot of headaches I think, and also not work to tarnish anyone's reputation should problems arise and a genuine project must be cancelled.

@CrisH

It seems no names known to Amiga people were used in the iWin hoax? In this case, we do have a known name which leaves three opportunities:

1) Ian S is pulling our legs, which he will pay for dearly.

2) Someone is using the identity of Ian S

3) They are actually trying to get a board out

Now everyone should read the logic discussion in "The lion, the witch and the wardrobe"

I'm assuming this is all true and not a hoax (roll on BB3 for the proof); is it possible that this could be a platform for running OS4 *and* MorphOS, or am I just dreaming ?

A board capable of running both MOS and AOS would probably spontaneously combust from all the flameage about what OS runs better on it

...but what if Ian Stedman sucked at playing

and is now being controlled Ralph Scmidt?

Yup, been there! I really wish I could have kept amipal.co.uk going, but I just didn't have enough time to keep it updated.

AHT have a cool prototype with the chip that
is supposedly supported, and I think I read
where they applied for a license a while back,
its linux friendly, fills the gap between cellphone
and tablet PC...therefore OS4 would be a benefit,
but not obligatory to developement...doesn't get
much better than that, scenario-wise. Someone
please start a bounty to get Rogue and Enthilza
some whiskey and blondes, who could try to get the
truth out, about the mystery device...

As I understood it the mystery PPC system isn't the Troika mobo!
The Friedens said in July that a new company will show a new Amiga like mobo in the comming months!
For me the mystery PPC device is either something based on IBM's PPC 405LP (either a handheld device (like IBM's reference design or a router/server or Settopbox with this PPC 405LP ) as it has been said in Italy that AOS4 runs on this PPC.
