Software News   Software News : E-UAE 0.8.28 released
   posted by evilrich on 21-Sep-2005 8:49:10 (9940 reads)
Version 0.8.28 of the portable Amiga emulator has at last been released, at great cost to the sanity of the maintainer.

Binaries are available for AmigaOS (both AmigaOS4 and classic 68k machines) and for the AmigaOS clones MorphOS and AROS as well as a Linux, MacOS X and BeOS.

This version features a tweaked AmigaOS graphics driver which now works properly on AmigaOS4 update #3 and the OS4.0 build offers better performance, an improved SCSI emulation (this lets you access host CD-ROM drives directly), AmigaInput support and at last a useful CD32 emulation (take a look at this screenshot of the CD32 version of SuperFrog running at full-speed on an 800MHz A1-XE - or at least it would have been if I wasn't taking of a screenshot).

Two OS4.0 builds are available - one which uses the native graphics driver and one which uses the SDL library. The former does not yet support E-UAE's Picasso96 emulation, so if you want to emulate an Amiga with a graphics card, use the SDL version for now. Otherwise, the non-SDL version offers better performance (especially for the CD32 emulation).

See http://www.rcdrummond.net/uae/ for more information and for downloads.

That's interesting. What gfx card do you have?

I might have found it. My Workbench is a 32-Bit thing. When I change to 16-Bit, window mode works ok. Full screen works whether I'm in 32-Bit OR 16-Bit, maybe the new E-UAE only wirks on 16-Bit screens.

It won't work on packed 24-bit screens (that is, 24 bits of colour in 24 bits) or as a window on Workbench at that depth. It will work on 32-bit screens (that is, 24 bits of colour in 32 bits) and as a window on a 32-bit Workbench.

Cheers,
Rich

Good settings for CD32?

Yes.

You'll also need these at least:

cpu_speed=max
cpu_type=68020
chipset=aga
chipmem_size=4

A small hint for better performance with G3-CPUs:
As most games use 320x256 only, you can set
linemode=none
lores=true
(check docs for correct words, can't remember now)
and create a 400x300 screen mode for it.
I can play most games in full speed now on my µA1.

@Rich

It's on my Micro A1-C so it's the internal Radeon 7000. The screenmode I'm using for my Workbench is a 1280x1024x32 one, with the colour slider maxed all the way to 16 million colours.

Interesting.

Can you look in screenmode prefs and tell me the order of the colour components for that screenmode? It'll say ARGB or BGRA or some such thing.

BTW, which version of the Radeon driver are you using?

Doing 'version ATIRadeon.chip' should tell you.

Rich

@evilrich

Hmm, I'm at work at the minute and can't check, so I'm not 100% sure, but I think the colour components are ARGB as I noticed them last night.

The version of the ATIRadeon chip I have no idea about until I get home to do a version on it, but my system is bang up to date as of last night with the latest beta components made available to us testers.

I'll post back definite answers tonight when I get home.

Cheers,
Daniel

Hi Rich,

I have a Radeon 7500. My screenmode is 1152x922 32Bit ARGB & this is with 'ATIRadeon.chip 51.12'.

BTW, excellent work. Games are running so smooth now!

FuZion.

OK, back home now so I can answer your questions.

My screen mode colour format is 'Radeon 1280x1024 32bit ARGB' and my Radeon driver is 51.12

####! You're quite correct. I somehow managed to forget to include ARGB - which was incredibly stupid. I didn't even see that i hadn't included it, because it was so bloody obvious that it should be there. Doh! Anyway. Sorry about that. Expect a new version in a few days to correct this. I'll see if I can sort out some other problem people have reported first...

Cheers,
Rich

Same here. µA1-C set for Radeon:1024x768 32 bit ARBG

Just for fun try adding the following line to .uaerc

amiga.screen_type=ask

When you start uae a requester will come up and you can pick a screen mode.

Radeon:1024x768 16 bit creates a black screen with an Amiga workbench window in the middle of it.

When you quit uae it will probably grim.

Does this version work on Amithlon? I've never been able to get previous versions to work, despite the non-experimental versions of UAE working fine.

Perhaps more importantly, is E-UAE better than the old versions of UAE yet, on the Amiga?

I don't get much feedback about the 68k version, but I have heard from people that have run it on Amithlon. I don't have Amithlon myself, so I don't know what the problem you are having might be. It runs fine on UAE here. Care to give more details as to what doesn't work?

I think so.

I have never compared the performance of E-UAE with the old 68k UAE. Perhaps I should. It might be enlightening. I will say that the emulation is a lot more compatible now.

Rich

What GUI? The 'old' one that was released some months ago?
I have a couple of bugs i'd like the author to know about.
