hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : Give Amy her Face...Wanna Win an Amy'05 board? - Read on..
posted by Troika on 13-Oct-2005 22:36:25 (12523 reads)
Troika is giving away a free Amy'05 board, either beta or production, to one lucky individual who can design a front facia to fit on mini-itx and micro-atx tower cases. We are looking for one standard design that will clearly identify the Amy series of computers.

The winning entry must be in jpeg format and should be in two versions for Tower and Desktop cases. You don't have to be a graphics wiz to enter, we will work from the best design and turn your sketch into reality.

All entries must be submitted in jpeg format and will be judged by Troika. Enter as often as your wish. Closing date is the 12th of November 2005, please do not forget to include a working return email address with your entry.

Now is your chance to Immortalise yourself in Amiga history! - Get designing!!!

Send alll entries to: newface4amy@troikang.com

@all
Here ya go!!

(edit) And before you ask.....It's a CD/DVD slot!!!! (/edit)
And I don't care if it's more expensive.

Community submitted derivations to follow.
(edit2)
Xeron and Step have pulled their derivations off the web.
The blue is supposed to be neon like most case mods.
There's a keyboard garage....obviously.
(/edit2)

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.
We have no hotdogs!!! But I want my buns toasted!!!

Well, this is a bit confusing, since Mini-ITX cases and MicroATX cases generally have a vastly different geometry, and wouldn't normally have a common facia. Are we talking about the physical facia, or the logo imprinted there upon? (I know it doesn't say logo contest, but I'm just not seeing this)

Then there's different cases by different companies which could be different again but still take a standard board.

Might be an idea to specify the sizes required and spaces therein for any devices (eg CD-ROMs).

Even better, here's just one company:

Silverstone (my favorite)

I see two completely different MicroATX cases: the SG01 and the LC11, and four different miniITX cases: the LC05, the LC06, the LC09, and the LC12.

The LC07 and LC08 are nano-ITX (just try to find a motherboard!), the LC15 is MicroBTX, and the rest are full ATX, although the LC02 (which my A1 is wedged into) and LC04 are probably better for MicroATX as you don't lose so many slots (the cases only have room for two horizontal slots, via a riser)

@ syrtran

Oh that silverstone has some great cases, take one of those with a plain front and make it a great standard case.

Godfrey's
has a nice case and good price on it.

This, to me, sounds like they will sell complete computers as well, which means they decide which brand and model of tower or desktop case to use, so the issue with different brands wouldn't be an issue here. Or maybe I'm just reading it wrong...

don't let the size confuse you, and Amy has a logo.

We are looking for the front panel face design in both the horiz. (desktop) and vertical (tower).

It's wide open rules after that, we will do the work to match the winning design to the case we pick.

Good luck

> Desktop Mini ITX or Micro ATX

It's better to design Laptop case.
If someone put together AmyO5 + DC-DC Converter + NiMH battery +LCD, this will be a great PowerPC laptop.
What is the price of such device?

> Difficult to fit video card into laptop case

1. Use flexible PCI riser card. This card is connected to the board using a cable (3 Inch)

http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=8

2. Use low profile video cards.

If possible use video card without any heat sink or low profile heat sink.
Perhaps the product can use old video chipsets.

I have one question, the news item says a "mini-itx" case, however looking on the Troika website it says the mobo will be a flex-atx, this wouldn't fit into an mini-itx case as it would be 20mm to big in width .

Also do they have a case to which to work with? Just a thought, but it would make designing a case easier if we knew what dimensions to work with .

Can't wait to see Amy tho

I would like to see the classic Amiga case design brought up to date, possibly black instead of white and in keeping with the molded AMIGA on the front section

I think this would be a great time to clarify whether you are allowed to use the Amiga trademark or not.
