Software News   Software News : OS4 fix for AmigaAMP WarpUP released..
   posted by Samwel on 27-Feb-2006 10:04:24 (5048 reads)
Andreas Magerl of AmigaFuture said this on the AmigaFuture forum:

"I've recompiled all engines from the new codebase once again after cleaning up the
resource allocation and deallocation routines. There should be no memory leaks anymore
and the "unfreed signals" bug under OS4 should be gone as well."

Get it from AmigaAMP downloads page.

I have AmigaAMP 2.16 and downloaded the external engine archive
less than 30 minutes ago. It crashes heavily on exit.
I have emailed Thomas with a crash logg.

The task which crashed was "AmigaAMP PPC AsyncIO".

Same here. Also sent crash log to Thomas moments ago.

all:

Project -> Config -> System (tab)

Engine -> Mpega.library (v2.4)

It won't work if in Auto detect because Internal is not updated.

@snuffy

Your suggestion works very well. But the drawback is that the mpega.library doesn't support equalizer and some of the visual effect. If WarpUp engine worked properly, that would've been a better choice.

@Snuffy

Yes, I think everybody knows the MPEGA option works fine.
But we want to use the equalizer

Maybe Thomas could make use of the equalizer an on/off option for
all engines/modes instead?! If your computer can't handle it then simply
turn it off. Would be the best IMHO.

@Samwel:

You can't use the equalizer and/or the spectrometer (and dependant plugins) with mpega.library as it doesn't supply the needed data for the spectrum analysis. So it's switched off when mpega.library decoding is used.

In any other cases it depends on the cpu speed, if the equalizer and the other gimmicks run fast enough or not. But you can disable them by hand, if needed

@whose

Oh, I always thought the equalizer was turned of because m68k couldn't
handle it. That was what Thomas wrote long time ago. But maybe you're
right.
What is exactly needed from the decoder for AmigaAMP to use the equalizer?!?
I thought it was just raw sound data that that the program processed digitally in
real time (or as near as possible).

@firbodi:

Pls have a look at your version of AmigaAMP. I bet you use an older Version, I got the same DSI error and noticed that I was using V2.14

Greetz

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked, it was 2.6, and I even downloaded 2.6 again, deleted the old drawer and installed the new download. Still I get the DSI error most of the time. If I ignore, AmigaAMP runs with no problems. This is happening after update 4.

@all
I get a GR when quiting with the new WarpUp engine.

@Samwel:

You better ask Thomas about this, I don´t know really much about MP3 decoding. He told me (long time ago too ) that there are the necessery information at some stage of the MP3 decoding, which you won´t get from mpega.library. mpega.library delivers "cooked" sound data, ready to transfer directly to the soundcard. If you want to use the spectrometer/equalizer with this data you would have to do some heavy analysis, which in turn would need lots of cpu power.

As far as I know the 68K external engine uses the equalizer just like the other external engines as long as the used machine is fast enough.

@thread

I admit that, other than @firbodi and I, I can not tell from reading this thread
whether the writers have their equalizer working or not.

Under archive 2.16, you merely go to "Project/config" to use the GUI.
Go to 4th tab (system) and select "engine" "WarpuUP" with the cycle gadget.
Save.
The next time you start the program, the words "AMIGAAMP V2.16 (WARPUP)" will
appear in the interface where song titles appear.

@zerohero

Choose "external".

When the "new" WOS engine described in this thread is installed, the GUI changes
to show "WarpUP" instead of "external". Same thing.

Easy tests to see if WOS and equalizer are running:
Middle control of equalizer...raise to top. Sound should be "tinny" (treble)
Also, grab and swirl main window around the screen. If the other windows "snap"
into place, you have WOS. If they travel slowly (following the path of the first
window you moved), you are running 68k.

Yes, knew about 'external' just wasn't sure why you said 'WarpUP'...

@number6:

Here it works perfectly with AmigaAMP 2.16 and old WOS engine. I must say that it works perfectly first time with update 4 (JIT). Before update 4 the equalizer reacted very slowly and gave strange results sometimes.

Later I will test the 68K engine with WinUAE and see if the equalizer works there (I strongly believe it does because of the design of AmigaAMP external engines and their common codebase).

@Number 6

No problem using AmigaAMP 2.16 with WarpUP. Everything works ok even the
equalizer. It's just when I quit AmigaAMP it crashes heavily.

@thread

Did anybody notice that the WarpUp engine doesn't support (or can't find) TCP/IP stack (at least on OS4)?

I set up AWebPPC to open Mp3 and Play Lists with AmigaAMP, and when AmigaAMP is using the WarpUp engine, I get "No TCP/IP stack" message.

Have anybody experienced that?

Thanks,
Firbodi
