Software News   Software News : Epistula Instant Messenger Update
   posted by Slash on 10-Mar-2006 19:01:08 (4821 reads)
I am pleased to announce that I've made available a new version of Epistula (50.14) and the MSN plugin (50.4) on my website; http://www.the-snakepit.co.uk.

This version should fix a lot of bugs, most important ones being the DSI errors when logging on and the re-written authentication code for MSN, allowing users who previously couldn't logon to MSN to now do so.

Any bug reports/comments welcome!

Kind Regards,
Daniel Allsopp

@slash and @hotrod

THANK YOU! Those MUI changes makes toolbar look damn sexy now!

Yes, it's not perfect for everyone, true. But I'm afraid it works perfectly for me so as you rightly say, I'm trying to track down the last remaining bugs but it's quite hard when they're not producing crashes, but simple things that don't work.

Yeah I hate that too. WookieChat doesnt want to even connect with some 68k'ers, yet it works fine for me. Really hard to fix when it works perfectly for yourself.

I'm glad you got the money. I wasnt sure wether to use the "send money" function with your email address or not. I never could get your buy button to work. If you use cubicide or microgolded to do your website, check that the secure button code isnt being messed up by the 999 characters limit for lines.

EDIT: @everyone Horrible colours, and Nice colours

ahh.. after re-reading my post, i see that it might be a bit fuzzy, sorry.
i meant, i can't use the latest main epistula exe, but i can use the latest msn plugin, so maybe my older epistula exe is incompatible with the latest msn plugin? i can use the latest plugin with the old exe, it connects, but i can't send messages. but before the release of the latest msn plugin i couldn't even connect.
damn, I guess i'll have to use jabber a little longer, i can't switch to epistula before someone writes an icq plugin, as 80% of my contact list is filled with icq buddies, but when there's an icq plug available and the program is a bit more mature, my cash will be flowing your way. :)

edit: i don't get that 'the current plugin task won't end stuff btw'...
maybe it's something with the latest exe for the registered users?

@Slash

I know what the problem is with erroring when they try and send a message..
If you have "Display customised contact names" checked in epistula settings (at least on the demo) the program crashes when you try and send a message/recieve a message...

Question. Will Epistula (where'd you get that name from ?) allow me to log into AOL chat ?

Yippee, it works for me too now. Looks like we (Total Amiga) are gonna have to do a full review of Epistula for the next edition (unfortunately too late for issue 23 which should come back from the printers this week)

Text Field Disappearing yes, guilty as charged... stupid error on my part. Can't believe it slipped through, but it will be fixed in the next version for registered users. Will provide a nice new "annoyance" for non-registered users.

That's funny. Sounds like something I would do on purpose.

Say, any idea when YM will happen?

@BinoX
Yes, I've found some code in that particular function which could cause a crash. Will be fixed soon. Thanks for pointing it out though!

@The_Editor
The name comes from the Greek word for "Message", I thought it was quite good so I used it. I'm sure everyone's heard me saying that I despise the prefix of Ami- before any piece of Amiga software

AOL is certainly possible, but I'll not be writing a plugin I'm afraid. Well not yet anyway.

@sicky
Excellent, I'm glad it finally works for you. That's been a problem for a while!

@Moxee
Same response as the AOL question from The_Editor I'm afraid. The plugin will certainly be possible but I lack the motivation to code one; have you seen the mess that these IM protocols communicate with? They're horrible!

Epistula froze while I was chatting so I made a warm reset and launched Epistula again and she began to chat with me but it didn't show her as being online...

Is this a statement? a question? a bug report? Please, again, do not report such things without providing a crashlog, or if it didn't crash, a serial output log from said session.

*sighs*

Don't read too much into this, I'm not in the best of moods, but come on... what exactly do you want me to do about this with the information you've provided? Serious question!

Good to hear there's someone else who donn't like all those AmiXXXX names, like I do. The name Epistula is quite good, but where "the cactus" are gone?! :) Please, bring it back! :) It was really catchy. Those simple yellow letters are boring. Have no expression. Cactus roxx!! :) Anyone else agree?

The MUI. Seems MUI is still the best if a program needs pretty looking and comfortable GUI. MUI still roxx! :)

Maybe theBar.mcc would be more usable than ToolBar?

It didn't crash and I can't get a serial output right now so... you do what you want with that information ...

Allright... no more reports without a crashlog or serial output... got it...

What would motivate you [besides a gaggle of Egyptian Dancing Girls]? Seriously, I'd like to know.

No, and I am not sure I want to either.

I have had exactly the same, no Grim Reaper and unable to capture serial output (no other computer with serial port), sorry but not much use I guess?
