Internet News   Internet News : Hyperion Entertainment licenses 3D technology to Smiths Aerospace
   posted by herewegoagain on 22-Mar-2006 1:11:02 (7450 reads)
Leuven, Belgium - 21 March 2006

Hyperion Entertainment VOF announces that it has licensed its 3D driver technology for ATI Radeontm 9000 chipsets to Smiths Aerospace LLC (UK) . Hyperion's 3D driver technology is OpenGLtm ES compatible and was originally developed for Amigatm OS 4, Hyperion's multi-media centric, small foot-print embedded OS. Smiths Aerospace has adapted Hyperion's 3D drivers to comply with DO-178B standards and has incorporated a 2D version into its current display technology. Smiths Aerospace has the future capability to incorporate Hyperion's 3D driver technology for use in wide area displays intended for use in civil and military aircraft.

Thanks to the current discussion in the Amigaworld.net forums, this topic was revealed. I felt that it deserved a bit more than just a forum topic.

Excellent job Hyperion! Hope this brings lots of rewards for your hard work.

So did Hyperion include OS4 licensing in the deal as well?

I think many are jumping to conclusions here.. This has nothing to do with OS4.
It's only a part of code that Hyperion licence out that also happens to be used in OS4
aswell.
Also this code is fully owned by Hyperion and that's why Amiga Inc is not mentioned
in the press release.

I think it does. They make a profit from the AmigaOS4 Development.

@Herewegoagain

That's great news !
IMHO it also shows that Hyperion are not just a "bunch of developers", there is also a business behind making Business Deals !

Could that means more Games Port from Hyperion guys ?
Then I won't know what to buy anymore as there will be too many titles and not enough money in my wallet...

@cHaOs667

Have you tried FreeSpace (available from AmigaKit)?
It's really GREAT. It wasn't much my type of game... But now I really enjoy it... And I think I'm addicted (along with OpenTransportTycoon) !

@Jerryuk007:

Yes, i own FreeSpace (also Shogo, Heretic II, Quake, Quake 2, Napalm, T-Zer0 (i wish that napalm and t-zer0 would run under os4...) and many more post 1996 Titles) and played it many times with much fun! But like any other games there comes once the time when it doesnt make any fun again

@Toaks: pardon? Man, i don't say that the SDL Ports of game are crap, im only sick of playing them! It's like the good old PD scene - great games but i can't play them forever... and sorry, there are no OSS or Amiga replacements for my todays favorite games (Madden NFL, Master of Orion 2 and Knights of Honor) so i have to stuck with my PC and Gamecube. Im not proud of this situation, my TV is smaller than the TFT attached to my amiga and playing under windows is more pain than fun (thanks to scsi and some new copy protection systems like star force and securom !)
