Software News   Software News : New Public AmigaOS 4.0 SDK available for download
   posted by EntilZha on 10-Apr-2006 13:49:34 (14856 reads)
Leuven, Belgium - 10. April, 2006

Hyperion Entertainment is proud to announce the availability of the Software Development Kit Version 51.22 for the AmigaOS 4.0 Developer Pre-Release.

The new SDK features the new gcc 4.0.2 compiler toolchain as well as updated header files for AmigaOS 4.0 Pre-Release update 4.

The SDK download is available for all interested parties via anon access at Hyperions FTP Server:
ftp://ftp.hyperion-entertainment.biz/AmigaOS4_SDK

The SDK is available in two versions: A 160 MB download that contains everything to get you started, including compiler and contributed libraries, and a cut-down version that contains the compiler and documentation only.

Please see THIS post for ftp download details.

I am still having trouble downloading it from the FTP link on Hyperion's web page.

I can only get a CPS of 2,000 instead of my usual 160,000. This would be a download of 8 hours or so, not going to happen.

I guess I can just wait for a few days to the rush dies down.

Ciao,
Trev Daley.

It seems to be OK right now, using the command line Windows XP ftp client:

Quote:
226 File send OK.
ftp: 160957186 bytes received in 463.19Seconds 347.50Kbytes/sec.

i tryed to compile gnugo,
after the configure went fine, when i do make i get that:

6.Media:w> make
makefile:106: *** target pattern contains no `%'. Stop.

what does that mean? ;)
i'm total beginner so maybe this is a dumb question?
but with previous sdk,
make would have compiled for some time before stopping on some error.

oh, and i looked at the line 106 of the makefile:

$(srcdir)/Makefile.in: # Makefile.am $(top_srcdir)/configure.in $(ACLOCAL_M4)
cd $(top_srcdir) && \
$(AUTOMAKE) --gnu Makefile

I've been looking at the header files and noticed this interesting new addition:

Quote:
#ifdef __USE_AMIGAOS_NAMESPACE__
namespace AmigaOS {
#endif

Is this a move to a more C++-friendly set of header files? Now, all we need is to get rid of all those nasty preprocessor macros and we can wave goodbye to name collisions!

Also, why do some files have this and others not? (eg none of the header files in include_h/interfaces seems to have it)

PS: the clipboard integration in Remote Desktop totally rocks

It allows programmers to create OS4 programs, these are faster than OS3 programs
and can use OS4-specific features which didnt exist in OS3, e.g. its possible
to specify the charset of a ReAction GUI.

In case anyone was concerned about hyperion's bandwidth here's a result of downloading the SDK by FTP:

160957186 bytes received in 28.12 secs (5590.8 kB/s)

Then why do I only get 170kB/s? I've got 100Mbit too. Guess there are thin lines between Belgium and Sweden.... (downloding as I write this).

It probably means you didn't

Please look at the documentation for GNU make and try again. It is present in the Documentation drawer.

If you still have problems I'd recommend starting a new topic in the appropriate forum so it is more likely you'll get help.

It may be an idea for Hyperion to allow people to burn the SDK into a CD-ROM for free-as-beer distribution at user groups. Not everyone has broadband...

@Deniil

I have 10MBit and I also only got 150-200KB/s. I suppose we (Sweden) have bad
connection to Belgium or whereever their server is.

@Agafaster

Why not get broadband? Is it hard where you live or what?

I thought it would be cheaper for almost any type of user these
days. It is in Sweden anyway. You can get ADSL broadband for
less than 20¤/month.

Is anyone else getting an error message stating "Opening of file failed In Archive: perl-5.8.5.lha" during a full install over the OS4 SDK Update 3? I've downloaded and attempted this installation more than once and gotten the same error each time.

Anyone have any ideas?

All I can suggest is make sure that you have fully removed any previous installation of the SDK. It actually recommends that you do this in the installation instructions.

The first time I installed the new SDK I had attempted to install over my old installation which came up with a similar message to what you are experiencing. I ended up removing the references in S:user-startup to the SDK, rebooting and then deleting the entire SDK directory from my hard drive. Installation then completed without any hitches.

Kind regards,

Francis.

Oops! I guess it's RTFM for me! That did the trick, thanks!

Just a note about a small error in the SDK: the file SDK:local/source/SDL-1.2.8.tar.bz should be called 1.2.9 instead.

At least here in Italy, dial-ups flat contracts are cheaper than broadband ones. I'm using a semi-flat ISDN 128k connection which costs me 15 euro per month. There's also a full flat 56k contract for 12 euro/month.

I got 4 or 5 errors, perl, STL and a couple of others. I don't use them anyway, so just unchecked them and installed only the contribs I might actually use.

You are installing the SDK over an older installation. This is discouraged (as is stated in the documentation).

The best idea is to backup your Local directory, delete the SDK directory, re-install it, and then copy the local directory back to your SDK (without overwriting existing files).

I had removed previous installation, but still got those errors. Will try again later to check.
