hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : New CPU Modules: Estimated Availability June 19/2006
   posted by ackcontrls on 23-Apr-2006 16:30:37 (69981 reads)
ACK Software Controls, Inc. is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of two new AmigaOne XE CPU modules. The first CPU module will be equipped with a Freescale MC7448 CPU clocked at 1GHz. The 1GHz module will retail for $500.00 US Dollars. The second CPU module will be equipped with a Freescale MC7448 clocked at 1.7GHz will retail for $850.00 US Dollars. Both CPU modules will be eqipped with a high quality heatsink and fan to ensure quiet, reliable operation.

Prototype modules will be demonstrated May 22/2006. The location for this demonstration has yet to be determined. Due to the low volume nature of these products, emails indicating demand for either of the two units is greatly appreciated. Stay tuned for updates.

Sincerely,

Adam Kowalczyk

>But congrats on the effort, you managed to both imply that I'm an unhelpful >infidel

I'm sorry but it does seem that you only tend to comment on specific topics here and a pattern has emerged. Perhaps I'm no better myself for responding the way I do.

>at the same time as you accuse me of wanting to "derail the >thread"! :D

Well you have, havn't you. People are perfectly able to find moobunny on their own, and were probably suprise it took so long for the thread you referenced to apear there.

>I promise I won't bite any more OT baits in this thread.

So you're the inocent party and those nasty Amigaworld bullies keep ganging up against you for no reason.

@unimon

Judging from what adam said about height it probably has one of these or something very similar.

I've had one ever since I started regularly using my A1.

Edited HWGA- T&P Reason:

Troll: Trolls show no respect for other people's opinions and deliberately crafts messages to provoke others with the intention of wasting their time and energy or just to cause anger and confrontations. There is no point in arguing with them; their minds are made up. Ignore them, and report the posts immediately to an Amigaworld Team Member.

Flame/Attacks: Do not flame! Flaming refers to derogatory, abusive, threatening, sarcastic, rude, or otherwise mean-spirited messages directed at members/users. Be cautious when using sarcasm and humour. Without facial expressions and tone of voice, they do not translate easily over the Internet in posts and may be perceived as flaming. Report the flame posts immediately to an Amigaworld Team Member so that the situation can be dealt with immediately.

Flexinoodle,

The PowerVixxen has changed drastically since it's first announcement and is indeed late, but will arrive. The shortage of connectors is now well behind me and I even have options to choose from regarding supplier. I have been working behind the scenes to make a few different things happen...but I'm only one person....and a very busy one at that. I hardly consider that this caused pure crap as I need to know the demand and the overwheliming demand is to support the faster 1.7GHz unit. In such a small market a miscalculation of which product is in demand would leave me and/or dealers holding stock. So this isn't crap....it's market research.

Adam

Can anyone refresh my memory on the specs and purpose of the PowerVixxen (again weird name, it takes me back to my old thread about silly names in Amiga history)

@TheDaddy,

I suppose I could refresh your memory on the specs and purpose of the PowerVixxen, but I think that it may be a waste of time because:

(This is from post 165 above)

The PoweVixxen is basically a powerpc expansion module for the A1200 (there should be an A4000 model too) that will come with OS4. It will also be able to run in stand-alone mode (i.e. without a classic Amiga attached). Stand-alone mode will require an additional board to work.

Thanks

So we don't know cpu speed and characteristics of the board yet, ram, expansion slots and so on because has changed...I would love to know.

I hope we can have a 1.7GHz in the PVixxen

@Seehund

First of all: Long time no see.

Secondly: I don't think the problem here is so much your actual opinion, as it is your inability (or unwillingness) to express it without gravely insulting those who don't share it. If you could just figure out a way of expressing yourself without calling people stupid, using expressions like "grabbing their ankles", and talking about cults and jihads, I'm sure you would get a much more favourable reaction.

As for people being predictable (still referring to your moobunny post here), you really shouldn't be the one to talk. You've been a one-note horn ever since the uproar over Amiga Inc's AmigaOS licensing scheme. Again, your opinion is completely valid. I can even partially agree with you on that one. The problem is, again, in the way you express it, with insults, condescendence and ankle-grabbing metaphors. By taking every opportunity to slag off those who don't share your bitterness. If you would just try to be a tiny bit constructive, you might actually accomplish something beyond making people not like you.

I would love to know too. A 1.7 GHz PV would be nice. And all for $300 US
Ok, I admit I'm dreaming, but it's a nice dream so don't wake me up yet!

Adam, I don't want to tell you what to do, but I would simply ditch the 1GHz. Simply there might be a bunch of idiots (incl. myself ) buying the 1.7GHz and probably selling the old 933Mhz. Maybe in a number that is sufficient for some people to replace the broken G4 or replace a G3. OTHO the cache is also interessting. 1.2GHz or 1.3GHz on the low end would maybe make more sence (no ?).

BTW: I can't sell my G4 - its broken

Between now and May 22/2006, I will have a much better idea of the demand split and take it from there. If I can hold the price on the lower speed module and upgrade the speed, I will.

@Kay, Seehund

Yes I agree fully with Kay here. Express your opinions differently and most people
won't have a problem with them. I don't have a problem with them anyway
But I think you work overdrive with baiting for people to get angry at you.
Do you thrive at that?

I have no interrest in either Classics, MorphOS or AROS anymore and have NO
problem with your opinions. Also I will probably buy a CPU module and have
already bought a µA1-C for PLENTY money. I know it was expensive, but I
really don't care you see.. It's a hobby! I could spend 1000's of ¤ on a car or
HiFi equipment and some would call me stupid anyway. I mean you can get a
stereo for under 200¤ that can play the music "just fine".

Different people different views just be nice when expressing them.

Adam,

Another suggestion..

If I were laying out a new processor module, I would consider
setting it up to use some kind of standard heatsink.
Something that had a more reliable mounting system than what
we have seen so far from Eyetech.

Of course, I'm NOT doing this. But the suggestion is offered
anyway.

Thanks for working towards what our community needs!

@ackcontrls

You didn't reply to the actual size of the CPU module?
I really need to know that as I may have to buy a new case for my µA1-C.

Btw Are you going to make a new motherboard for these new CPU modules
aswell? Then maybe I could keep my old module and later sell/give my
µA1-C to a developer.

@lylehaze

I think Adam wrote in the news item that it will be delivered with a HQ
cooling system. So we probably don't have to bother with that as the XE
owners had to
But you still give a valid point for those that need replacements and/or
want to overclock.
