For me, Unicode is on the first priority of the missing features. A Java plug-in comes second and CSS comes third.
How many of you agree with me?

Not agree, CSS is a first step imho, without navigation become quite impossible

@pure_Amiga

Actually, I think that CSS should come first. Unicode support is nice but as most pages I visit are in English, it's not necessary for me. The number of pages with Java applets seems to be decreasing. A Flash plugin would be of much greater use as it now much more common than Java applets.

Having said all this, Unicode support is probably much easier to add then CSS and Java.

@all

Maybe it's time to bug all the browser developers again for an update. Weren't we going to get an Amizilla update a month ago? What happened to it? Are the AWeb guys in contact with Marcik to collaborate on getting KHTML working on all AmigaOS variants? Then there's Ibrowse and Paihia. We heard a little about their progress a few months ago. Hopefully they've both made some headway since then.

Hans

CSS is the most needed. Even a java plug-in is secondary, as in reality isn't required for that many sites (likewise for flash), although good javascript support would be nice. Unicode for me sits below the others, although for any new browser efforts unicode is likely built in from the project start.

Seems like IBrowse is simply in limbo- little progress is being made there from what I can see anyways, which is unfortunate, moreso as it's a commercial project.

I still expect something useful to come from Marcik's work before we eve see IB 2.4, which will be significantly behind a KHTML based browser..

Since this is from a port made for a Nokia mobile I would love to see how it performs on classic...

This appears to be yet another apparent victim of a lack of available and affordable hardware for OS4.

@elatour

Maybe we shouldn't always asume that everyone will buy A1's.
This guy is a MorphOS user. I doubt he would buy a A1 if available.

But I guess he wouldn't say no to a free machine.

The author has promised to give the source to the AWeb guys as soon
as he's done with his port. This probably means that we, OS4 users,
will have it 4-8 months after MorphOS.

I really can't understand why he's making a MUI "plugin". Why not make
it a shared library instead. Then anyone could just make a wrapper for
any type of GUI, web browser or even add HQ HTML support for email
clients.

Precisely that is why he will go with MUI class, you could easily share code and embed html engine into your application. MUI class is still a library. He had to choose GUI engine for his project and he chose MUI becauseit is only sensible way. Maybe he could've created yet another wrapper for some GUI libraries on Amiga, but it's silly waste of time and resources, because only MUI has the needed power :)

@Brotheris

No it's not really.

He could have split the code and done the MUI wrapper himself.
Then he would have helped alot of others wanting to use the same code
with non MUI applications.
But it's of course his decision to do as he pleases

I don't think it'd be fast. Today smartphones are way faster than our classic machines

Because MUI is only sane, multiplatform available gui toolkit. Anyone could use it in webbrowser, email client, or even desktop (as long as uses MUI - but well 99% of MorphOS apps use MUI so it's not a problem for me ). And if someone reaaaly want to make it using another gui toolkit - code is very modular and it shouldn't be as hard as porting whole engine from scratch

True enough, however, this is the reason that he gave for not having an OS4 version, and he DID have a port for 68k.

It would be real nice if we had an OS4 version.

I'm sure more stuff would be ported from mos to OS4 if OS4 ran on the Peg.
