have you old not finnished DL .. if yes correct the "path" in the xxx.stat files first !
[this will slow down the complet Amigift]
Then start the daemon seperate from cli and not from the giftmui ->
rename the giftd to giftd_
copy the cpu command as giftd to his place
reboot your Amiga ..
after reboot start the TCP stack ..
Then start the giftmui programm .. [it says "waiting for loading the daemon" ..]
CLOSE the giftmui programm ...
THEN start the daemon over a CLI ..
AND then start the giftmui again ..
Then it runns hopefull [if you have no other (TCP relevant/MUI classes/..) problems]

And .. on the Site is a newer Version Available !!! [check the modification Date ! ]

On my system [060/OS3.9.3+] the new giftd relase [04.06.06 ] dont connect to the older [build107]

Well, in my case it worked out-of-the-box, but i can't say that i'm excited about it. I haven't been able to do anything useful with the new plugins: The gnutella is almost always down, thus not very usable and i haven't manage to download anything from ares so far. I also had the impression that the DC plugin was present in v2.0.
I will continue to test it and if the new plugins continue to be disfuntional for me, i think i will stick with v1.x.

have now a summary from a couple of bugs ..
Connect nearly ZERO to gnutelle [from the logfile,i think a error in the forwarding -i`am behind an router-]
in the transfer window the sorting is impossible for "size" or "transfered" [this is very bad]
the above writen problems [giftmui running from time to time only at second start-so i start it now regular second times-]

Hope this is sorting .....
[ATM the V2 is less usably as the V1 -specialy with the "nice" reg restrictions-]

mmh ... hope i can registry with PayPal soon over an friend ...

which network-stack you are using ?
I think the most giftd--giftmui problems ar Genesis TCP-Stack related .. [this is (if this correct)
very bad .. Genesis is the official OS3.9 TCP stack .. and i will dont downgrade
to AmiTCP3.x ...]

Yes .. the only problem i have with the V1 is the "inspector" .. it crashes nearly 90% the
times it running .. but i can start sourcen locator at hand .. this is on the V2
not possible without registry .. and i cant test the "inspector" .. if it now
running bugfree or not .....

mmh .. i have read in the logfile often "fwtesting" and then nothing ..
but without an router this theorie is not realistic

I think not from the "plug-in" problem but from the "starting giftmui"
problem .. and you have this not [with miami] ..(if i have this understand correct)
And in the giftmui log [in t:] i read -> "FIONBIO (non-blocking) mode DISABLED On Genesis"
And i know from other Genesis related problems [dynAmite-server]
I have hoped for a workaround after this long time ..

It behaves more or less the same for me with both tcp/ip stacks.

Now, there is a new problem... openFT and ares are permanently off. I was able to connect to these at the beginning. I think it happened from the point that i updated the nodes from the Amigift's online updater...


Edit: I was right. It was the online updater which caused the problem. So, careful with it.

Most p2p programs todays incorporates a chat program, most of them uses own
implementations, I just do not wanted to spent much time on this and used a
single IRC interface connecting to our freenode channel, it is most likely

giFTMui uses a new mechanism to launch the daemon itself, and detect on-the-fly

being able to connect to the network(s) are due outdated nodes.

If your nodes get outdated theres an archive in the pre-site (nodes.lha) just
replace your local nodes with the contents of this archive (thats at least
for this version), however this do not guarantee a connection, there are some
factors to consider...

Double-Clicking on the giFTMui icon does the same

"start giftmui and then close it" you told, and well, whats the purpose of

you quit giftmui very quickly you can probably end up with corrupted nodes
files or others even worse side effects!..., on the startup proccess giftd needs
some time to load the nodes and banlist files (which are generally big in size)

Probably, the nodes available from the online updater are OLDERs the ones I've
upped to the pre-site (both, base/ready packages and nodes.lha)

Well, i'm using Amigift 2.0 for several days now and things are exactly as i described them for the new plugins. I have met many ppl who agree with me. At least for the gnutella plugin.

Furthermore, i have found a very annoying bug which was confirmed at least by one person: The OpenFT node file goes empty after a few hours.. I have to update it manually but then it goes 0 size again and again... I have NEVER had this kind of problem with Amigift 1! What do you think?

And here is another possible bug: NOONE has ever download a file from me while i'm using v2.0. At least this is what the data/history file reports and i have never see an uploaded file on the transfer window. And before you say that it's something normal, i tell you that it's not. I always had users fetching files from me when i was using 1.x.

PS: i doubt that many ppl will read your post as the news item have been displaced from the front page days ago.

This is bad for user that have different log file directorys!
Or add an cli option for different log places...

The locator and the inspector is for user that not DL only a mp3 [~5MB] or
the new Cinema blockbuster [hundred of sources] very essential !
For rare stuff [hentai anime of course ..], only a few or only 1 source
is available .. without the locator .. found more is a pain !!
And without the inspector [that search automaticaly from time to time the
network] it is nearly impossible to DL rare stuff ...
And the V1 have multi-list !It is not the payment the problem [have payed
allready ] .. but the restrictions to basic for a use ...

BUT .. if this a silly action .. IT WORKS !
If i start amigift first time and the deamon is allready running ..
With a big chance the same problem comes that have VooDoo !!
It loads giftmui .. say "welcome" .. and then comes this very tiny window
only with a "ok" button .. if i click on this .. giftmui quits ..
and than come the window "stabilising chat connection" or simmilar ..
and by quiting .. he shut down my daemon too
soo ... with my "silly" usage .. i start first giftmui .. he CANT run the daemon
and i quit it with no problems .. THEN i run the daemon per CLI .. and run
giftmui then second time .. and it works like a charme [except the other problems ..]

mmh .. i have a little programming knowing .. i understand the lines ..
but it IS true ! [dont ask me why ...]
I have with the 04.06 giftd relase ONLY yellow gnutella/fastrack lamps ...
[can wait 2h and nothing change ...]
With the 02.06 giftd relase i have good fastrack connection [green] and
very rare gnutella connections ......

I have only problems with the Gnutella plugin [nearly no connection], the OpenFT
network is ~35% down .. but is not so important.
Fastrack is ~95% connected and Ares ~100% [but with only 2 other users ....]
I have disabled the gnutella plugin .. if come a new giftd version i try this again..

My OpenFT node file stay here ... dont know from this problem ATM ..

ATM no file have uploaded .. but this is [for me] not a fakt ..
Have with V1 only very rare Uploads over Fastrack .. with gnutella i have many
uploads .. but the gnutella plugin is ATM not usable .. so i dont know 100% IF
this a bug or not ..

With the keyfile i can finally disable the chat !!!
Can use multilists ... [nice and better usable as V1]
Can Rise the numbers of "search results" -VERY Important!- ....
And can disable "load/quit Deamon" !!

But ---
I dont know if the "Inspector" now working ..
Nearly every time a "Locator" is started [manualy or by inspector] this tiny error
window pop-up [have with scout managed to read the window title "gift fatal error"
.. the window itself is to tiny to read more than "gif.."] .. and after clicking of
the o.k. button giftmui quits
In the logfile in ram:t .. it writes "Internal Error: out of signals for new Timer !?"
..hopes for a new version ...
And another suspect held back ,in giftd.log it writes :
"*** GIFT-ERROR: Ares: Couldn't get hash from share 'DH1:Videos/SHR/Hentai - La Blue Girl Shin angel 3.mpg'."
this is writen for all my "Video" files i share .. only Ares have a problem with the Video files..

ATM i DL 3 files at ~30kb/s .. not bad .. [over fastrack]
Hope for sorting of the bugs ..

update of my experience with the Reg. Version ...

Have new build a "share" datafile .. and now i have no errors more from
the Ares plug-in .. i think first time i created the datafile i have not
selected the Ares network in the daemon ..
So .. it crates only usable hash values for the networks thats selected ??

And i have now found "many more" files as the 2 listet in my status window
on Ares .. maybe an error ... [listet only 2 user and 2 files ...]

and the error : "Internal Error: out of signals for new Timer !?" is still
in my giftmui.log file .. but doing nothing IMHO .. except i launch
an locator .. nearly 95% chance giftmui quits with this little error
window ...

aaahh.. and i haved lost my openft nodes file too [size 0 bytes] .. but this
was after an system freeze .. i dont know if this amigift fault or not ..
[cant shut down the daemon regulary .. musst reboot]
but .. all other node files are O.K. ...

Summary from a couple of days with the Reg. Version and OpenFT/Ares/Fastrack
plug in enabled [only gnutella i miss ] ...

Have matches from all 3 networks ..
First comes matches from OpenFT and fastrack .. Ares matches take a LONG time to
apear .. so the complet search process takes longer ..

Have not sucessfull managed to DL anything from other networks than fastrack
[o.k. .. ~200kbyte complett DL from OpenFT over 3 files (all files ~100MB) and
only One time .....]

The OpenFT is ~60% from the Time offline
Ares is nearly 100% online .. but it comes often :

And in stats only 2 user with 2 files listed ..?

Fastrack is ca. 90% online ..[but even the lamp is yellow .. search results
coming from fastrack ...? ]

The problems i have with AmiGift ATM :

Nearly locator no usable [so inspector too not usable ]
No DL from other Networks as Fastrack
No gnutella at all ..
Haved 2 giftmui crashes if i click on a file in the search results if i resize
the file name lenght field after search ..
A problem is to shut down save the daemon if giftmui crashes
On fresh startup the Amigift system run fine and with very good search results ..but
the longer time the amigift system running .. the sluggisher respons the amigift system [longer
dealys from "klick" on search to come the first results and very less results and
often long dealys from giftmui updating the stats or "swallow" from giftmui on
the socket link to giftd (no updates anymore,only after quiting giftmui the giftd.log
is writen continue ..) i think ..]

aahh .. and at the complet time now i have V2 .. NO ONE Upload .. on all networks !

/me thinks i talk to my self

Summary2 :

The multilist feature have bugs left , it is dramatical slower on search then the
1 list display .. and it makes giftmui -build109- very unstable .. have 3 crashes
with multilist .. without multilist no crash [only the locator issue]

The Ares plug-in uses in the giftd.log [after the initializing] nearly 90% of the
space with log entrys .. mmhhhhhhh ..? [only rare openFT/fastrack entrys]

soo .. to the above problems come the multilist problem in addition ...
And the "image" realm doing nothing .. still come "Videos" in search only !
The "audio" realm work

for an V2 relase ... mmhhhh ....mmhhhh ...

Hope for continue developing [or eMule on Amiga ] ....
{to clarify - it is not the payment or the slow developing .. but the V2 is
for me WITH registered less usable than the V1 .. the only advantage i see
is, i dont musst reset my system clock to make it working ....... ... ...}

I have a BIG doubt about if you are here to help or to boicot amigift.

Can't you see that your reports are almost USELESS without any segtracker/muforce/sashimi report ? of course you'll not post those reports here, so why you dont use the right place for this (bug-tracker/ML)?, it's too annoying...

May someone could see my reply as not proper, but ie our betatesters hadn't problems with multi-list and therefore we need those reports, r-team if you can't provide us the reports we'll understand you're just trolling and we will ignore you, sorry.....



@pure_Amiga:

The OpenFT thing should be "fixed" for the next build, well... it isnt fixed (just a workaround) in the sense thats a behaviour from the plugin which nodes we're we was unable to connect are not written back to the nodes file...(you'll see more info about that on the changelog)

About the uploads, thats something Ive not quite tested myself, but iirc at some time..(long time ago, thouhg) ive noticed some upload, but we'll recheck that ofcourse

mmmh.. i will REALY Help .. but i hope you understand my partly sarcastic notes..

With the V1 of AmiGift a big dream from the Amiga P2P interested people come true ..
Many things have not worked as suspected ..
This was no problem .. it was the first public relase ..
Then comes quickly a couple of updates [not easy for all user to install .. i have
no problems like this ..] and many bugs fixed ...
Then come LONG time nothing .. the gnutella time shutdown and i am very NOT happy ..
[i have searched 2 full days the error on my Amiga system .. then i test (more
as the "last non realistic chance" before dissasemble the Amiga) the system time ..
and you can not imagine my face as gnutella working .........]
Then the giftd shutdown come .. now i musst reset my system time ever i will run
amigift .. this make the use of another Web based programms [webbrowser/ICQ ..]
very painfull [coockies time out as example]
Then i see the anounce of the LONG awaiting V2 !!
And i think "WOW .. V2 .. this musst a BIG step.."
.... .... ... ... ......
And now .. i musst never reset my clock ...[this is the realy only thing that is
positive for me as user on the V2 on my system -OS3.9.3 A4000/060-66Mhz-]

I dont know from the developing behind the visible things...
But the summary is not so good ..
All my above marked problems i have ..
Cant use the Locator [with V1 i could this]
The inspector is because of the locator problem unusable to [this was in V1 a crash from
the inspector]
The gnutella plugin connect nearly no time [with V1 i CAN connect to gnutella]
The OpenFT plugin have problems with connecting [but i have never this problem with
a erased (0-byte) node file - only one time after a system crash]
The Ares plugin show IMHO the wrong network stats
Cant DL anything except from Fastrack [and a few 100kb from OpenFT one time]
Have the complete time NOT ONE Upload
Have problems with Multi-List


I have not writen on the bug-tracker site because the entrys on this site come
from the old V1 version [and i think a couple from me too] and have from this time
never updated .. so i think this is irrelevant for V2
And a closed mailing-list is not "my thing" ..
[the former mailing-list was public ...]

I have pointed you in my e-mail on this report from me .. so you can read it
and i hope it helps [even a little] .. and probably helps others with problems too ..
[on a closed mailing-list .. only few people read the problems .. and i pointed above
my thinking over the bug-tracker (outdated i thinked) ]

I have no time to start every time i will run Amigift segtracker first [it costs system speed]
and amigift is not running one time and then i can reboot and work like always
[have ATM an bug hunt in the actual YAM-Dev .. and here i can reboot .. start with
a extra startup-sequence with disables my patches and start segtracker/cyberguard,
start sashimi and run YAM-debug to test this and show the problem come out (it is
ATM not happen ..) .. but Amigift musst running 24h on day for serious P2P ...]

I have only pointed my problems [and have a not so optimal english *sorry* ]
Have you in your Amigift team an German speaking member .. this became far simpler..

Hope you are not to angry with me [and understand my frustration] ....
