hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : New consignment of AmigaOnes soon available
   posted by ssolie on 17-Jul-2006 21:58:25 (15963 reads)
We recently received delivery of a small consignment of AmigaOne motherboards for testing prior to redistribution among all AmigaOne dealers worldwide.

Update 18 May 2006 Quantities are limited and it appears that the CPU modules (G4 1.1 GHz for the XE boards) will not be available before the end of June 2006.
We will, of course, need some time to test them and prepare the new configurations, but you will very shortly be able to order a reconditioned AmigaOne from your favourite dealer!

Warning: quantities will be limited.

Don’t forget to bookmark this page for the latest info.

Update 16 July 2006 Some µA1-Cs are already ready to go out to dealers. News of the G4 modules is expected some time next week. Those wishing to trade in their existing G3 800MHz modules should contact their local dealer for a possible trade-in (not all dealers may offer this).

If you are going to drop that much on a board, you can get a whole Open Desktop Workstation Pegasos for $799, with case, ram, hd, and cdrw drive!

Or a decent x86 powered pc .

Of course, neither the Peg or the pc are entitled to run OS4.
Whether that is good or bad, is totally OT for this news-item, so please stop.

@ssolie

WOW! This is indeed excellent news!

Hopefully this will fill the gap until new hardware is ready to be released.

Kind regards,

Francis.

Why? thats about as appropriate as saying "If you're going to drop that much on a board you can get a Dell super wizz bang PIV incl windows, office, other crap for $399", people would obviously want the board to run OS4, and the ODW doesnt (and neither does the Dell )

It must be more than 10-20 because newsitem says 2-3 boards for dealer.

Maybe 50, i don't know. Anyway even if we only get 5 new boards is a good thing.

I guess they could be previously unsold boards which can`t now be sold as new because of the new ROHS legislation?

Yep! Quite right! And for half the price (or even less) of a Jaguar X-type to can drive a Ford Mondeo. They both bring you from A to B, take fuel and consists of a lot of mutual exchangeable parts. And a Toyota is proven better built quality, less prone to malfunctioning and mostly cheaper to buy. But still Jaguars are sold, Fords are sold and Toyotas are sold. What's your point?

@ikir

And how many dealers will actually get boards ? And if we just say it's 2 per dealer, care to name 10 active dealers who will take the risk of selling a board that can't be replaced if all goes wrong ?

For me it's sounds more like : " we got some boards, dealers will be severd according to the date of order, but at a max of 3 (or maybe only 2) boards per dealer."

Such an announcemt would even make sense if it were less than 10 boards.

Never thought i would say this, but i don't seem to be so interested or impressed by the AmigaOne anymore. I'm looking ahead into the future...which would be PowerVixxen TL

Best luck to anyone wanting an AmigaOne I have flushed enough money on 2 A1XE-boards already

Here is a quote from your Amiga and Pegasos User Group meeting in San Diego! announcement dated June 27, 2006.
Quote:
We would really love to have some Classic Amigans and OS4 guys there to contribute and have fun!

It is getting more and more difficult to have fun with you guys when some Pegasos dealer (or ex-dealer) interrupts our positive news regarding refurbished A1 hardware to tell us their latest pricing on hardware that can't even run OS4. The extra slam against OS4 on the PowerUp was just icing on the cake.

Hint: This is not the way to win friends and influence people.

I suggest getting the price from those actually selling them, the dealers.

The thing is how "positive" is the news really? First of all, the A1xe boards (aka "Teron" boards) were prototype boards to begin with. Now these boards are announced as refurbs? With no warranty i'm sure. The real issue here is I actually care about OS4 and the future, but it doesnt look so good when everyone gets excited about some repaired boards for sale - maybe 10-20 WORLDWIDE. This is not big news.

Err....where does it say in the "news" above that these are A1XE?

FYI...the reference to A1XE concerns CPU upgrades/replacements.
