Software News   Software News : DvPlayer DVD plugin
posted by afxgroup on 12-Sep-2006 15:43:09 (9969 reads)
This is a DvPlayer DVD plugin based on libdvdcss present in MPlayer

Copy the file dvdvcd.plugin into your DvPlayer/dvplugins directory. This
replaces the original dvdvcd.plugin which comes with DvPlayer, so you might
want to make a backup of the original.

You should see the Crypted DVD with DVPlayer.

The plugin is available here

Enjoy

Huh???? You can select the audio track you want via the Audio menu at any time. Maybe you don't have the required audio codecs installed, you can get them from OS4Depot here and here.

ok, there was no documentation on this, may be worth putting a tutorial/feature in place for this. Also helps if I have the codecs installed correctly

This was the final nail in the coffin - the one I have been waiting for. I purchased DVPlayer today

I had some strange problems with the DVPlayer with some DVDs. If I chose the "open DVD..." from the menu, the DVD menu would appear ok (with sound). If I then either clicked the down arrow in the GUI or down arrow key in the keyboard, the machine would fail to read the next track and report "read/write errors on disk". If I choose the VOB file directly from the disk, the same track would play without problems. What could cause this?

Just installed my registered version of DVPlayer, and I have to say that I'm very impressed.

@Toaks

The movie I tried was "The Crow". Just tried it with my registered version of DVPlayer, and the same happens. DVPlayer first claims that the disc has read/write error, then claims the VOB file is not supported format. If I choose a later VOB file it runs ok.

Just to be sure, I popped the disk into PS2 and the movie plays ok in there.

Edit: Just tried couple of other DVDs ("Serenity" and "Insomnia") and they both result in a Grim Reaper

Guru Medidation: 80000003
Task 0x23da060 ("DVPlayer Audio Subtask")
generated an error of type DSI (Data Storage Interrupt)
on address 0x7001801c
Redzone was not damaged
Stackpointer is inside bounds

Rebooted the machine and tried again but the problem is still there - what could cause this?

Don't know if you're the right one to contact. I downloaded the 2 codecs from Os4depot. the A52.library\
gurus my machine. I'm using 51.36 of avcodec.library. I am unable to get any sound.
I created the avcodecs directory, and it is being found. I am using an A1SE w/soundblaster Live!

thanks for any help

edit: I tried re-downloading the file a52.library and now the sound works, so apparently
the first download got corrupted. My dvd's play great. I have noticed an odd skipping not speed related.
At periodic intervals, the dvd would skip, like an old record, and cycle through each of the
languages. After a short time, it goes back to playing as normal. Other than that, overall speed is
good, even on an SE clocked at 666mhz.

Don't use the file requester. Use the Menu's Open DVD/VCD item instead!

Maybe I was not clear enough in my explanation. I get the same errors with both methods:

1) Using "Open DVD/VCD " from menu -> the DVD menu appears ok. From then, pressing 'down arrow key' in keyboard to start the actual movie -> DVD is accessed , but in the end I get the errors and that's it.
2) Opening the same VOB file from file requester.

Of course It might be something to do with the DVD (it is a budget release of the movie by Scanbox) or I might have some out of date libraries (can anyone confirm the versions of codecs that should work with the registered DVPlayer?). The GRs I get with other DVDs I have tried is a complete mystery to me., will look into that tonight.

DVPlayer is a fine program, and I'd like to think this is a some sort of configuration problem from my side, but I so far I have not been able to figure out reasons causing the this.

What are the exact error messages? Please try starting dvplayer from shell by using "VERBOSE" argument and show us the exact error messages.
Current version of libraries are on the os4depot but I'll release the latest avcodec.lib ASAP.
Your problem could be a faulty media or drive also.

And using your option #2 will not help. Accessing DVD's via AmigaOS4 filesystem will ignore dvplayer plugin system.

I have the version 0.54 registered and i cannot play Silent Hill using
Open DVD/CD option, it says "error opening stream DVD Menu"

I also cannot play the second part of some films e.g LOTR 1 LOTR2.
If i try via the file menu option it just says "File is not recogised as a
supported movie format".

I`ve just tried it in Mplayer and it failed there also complaining of encrypted files and the A52 library not decoding video files.

@Chip

Starting from shell with 'dvplayer verbose' does not give any additional error messages.

With "The Crow" I get a error 'Error opening stream 'DVD Video 1'.

With half a dozen other commercial DVDs I tried tonight I get the GR, with all of them:

Guru Medidation: 80000003
Task 0x23da060 ("DVPlayer Audio Subtask")
generated an error of type DSI (Data Storage Interrupt)
on address 0x7001801c
Redzone was not damaged
Stackpointer is inside bounds

If I do a 'drag and drop' - drop the DVD icon to DVPlayer icon, I get the same error Cap is getting:

"File is not recogised as a supported movie format".

OS4 version of SnoopDos reports that DVPlayer can access the avcodecs and dvplugins ok. It does report DVPlayer failing to see its tooltypes, is this normal?

File versions:
DvPlayer 0.54 Registered
dvdvcd.plugin 51.2
avcodec.library 51.36
a52.library 51.2
dca.codec 51.1

Are there other libraries/plugins DVPlayer depends on?

Don't know if this is relevant but I think DaveAE has said that Soundblaster Live,
actually any Soundblaster, is really bad to use on A1's. It hogs iterrupts together
with VIA or something of the sort.
Also I think these two together with SE is a disaster in the happening.

Maybe DaveAE could further explain this?!
