I feel tingly all over! Now to just take care of that pesky license problem and I may hold off on that Macbook Pro!

@Troika

Nice!

I hope the IDE connectors will have REAL sockets and not just those cheap pins?

The button battery holder is also the wrong way round. I'm sure all these things will be sorted on the consumer release

(edited due to typos).

Looks great, is it uATX or another small form factor?

From the location of the mounting holes, and the number of PCI slots, I'd say FlexATX (7x9in, 178x229mm)

@Troika

Thanks for the pictures.

Random musings:
Hopefully, the battery won't conflict with anyone's choice of graphics card.

It's nice to finally see a motherboard without legacy parallel and serial ports out the back. BTW - will it come with a backplate?

How high will the CPU and NB heatsinks be? Could this be stuck in a -really- low-profile case? (With a suitable 90 degree riser card, of course)

Even without OS4, this could make a nice silent linux-based home fileserver. (Um, it -will- run linux, won't it?)

@Syrtran

Shouldn't have to be that high really.. As they use 750GL CPU which should be even cooler
that the 750GX.
You could probably even run it without active cooling if you have the computer in a room
that's not too hot.

EDIT: Btw Isn't the graphics card slot the inner one? It might hinder the use of any card on
the outer slot though. Many newer graphics cards have huge fans on them.

Great, there are a lot of very cool cases in that format. Hopefully the PCI slots are such that one can use regular 90 degree risers for them (I like the thin, stand on its end type)

Looks nice. BTW, there's an IC missing above the tundra northbridge. You're not cheaping out on us are you?

Next photo, let's see it connected and booting.

Hmm you say the battery button is turning the wrong way.. does it really matte if it is turn 180 degrees? I se no problem inserting a battery the way it is now.

The missing Serial port is a problem for developers that want to use a Debug Serial connection to another computer.. and I can say that that is really gold wourt when coding.

Other than that its really looking good

Ok, if they sell a 1000 boards with let's say linux to start with they
are above the 0.5 million, so a license would be no problem i think.

Btw. my A1G3SE came also with linux and it still runs it aside OS4.

Note: from the Troika-site:

Q. What other operating systems will Amy'05 be able to run?

Various versions of Linux as many of the components in our design are used daily in the embedded, and server markets.

Hmm. My first thoughts are:

Pros:

*It seems to be real.
*Simple enough to be (relatively) cheap.
*All the major parts are well-known and widely used, so no crazy Articia-style bugs.

Cons:

*Form factor looks bizzare.
*IDE cables will press on the first Dimm (and why just bare pins, it looks horrible)
*No PS/2 ports, so no way to use the immortal IBM Model M. I hope U-Boot and OS4 can read from USB keyboards at all times or this could be a big issue.
* No serial ports. They're very useful for getting debug output when writing drivers and the like.
* Only 1 free PCI slot after the gfx card has gone in. Sound card / TV card / SATA card / Catweasle - pick one, forget the rest
* The AC97 codec is bad news on a machine with only one free PCI slot. Want good sound? Plug in a sound card and say bye-bye to any expansion potential.

I think it'll sell, provided it's cheap enough and the OS4 licence gets sorted. I wouldn't buy one myself (do a version with a couple more PCI slots and a PCI/PCI-e bridge for the gfx card and I'd think about it) but anyone who ever wanted a uA1 will bite your hand off for one.

Geek port is 8 bit. Could this be used for output?

Oh, and yes. I will bite Troika's hand clean off for one, assuming its not vastly overpriced.

Nice job Troika. This at least adds credibility to your project, and I am glad to finally see the first true "home grown" board. It's not perfect, but it's just right for a starter system. Just get that OS4 license and get this baby on the store shelves.

@DrBombcrater

Doesn't the AMD Geode™CS5536 give them the ability to have a serial port?

Yes, it looks a bit rough but it will fit just fine in any MicroATX or ATX case.

The lack of PS/2 connectors is no major problem.. If they add enough USB ports in the back.
Atleast 4 in the back and 2 internal.

The sound is good enough for most people. You'll have to connect it to a HQ HIFI equipment
to actually notice any major difference. (And have really expensive ears)

I agree with the additional PCI slots. But to keep it really cheap they went for this design.
Most people just want to have the basics in their Amiga anyway. I guess Amy won't have
trouble with PCI risers either so adding some PCI slots should work.

I agree with DrBombcrater - a serial port is a huge help when debugging (especially on OS4 - tons of system components spew out useful info to the serial port, and it's the easiest way to debug bootup problems), and it could be added in the form of a standard motherboard header that should cost only a few pennies. Of course, if you want to add a DB9 plug, don't let me stop you

Dunno, does it run OS4 ? (read, that licence)
Or does it run at all ?
How much is the fish ?
Will Troika be able to deliver costumers-support 10x more proffesional than their PR ?

So far it's just as real as the Escena-A1 or the BoXeR (feel free to add to that list).
