Maybe he did. I certainly would not know, but basically, the same comment holds true for whoever took over his duties/whomever owns and effectively runs the company...nothing official or otherwise from anyone that is actually employed and not subcontracted by Hyperion.

Then you must have missed the many times he said that he was not speaking for Hyperion, but for himself?

Only in the past month or two have I seen him state this in his messages on more than one occasion. For the many months before that, of what I read in his posts, I, and many others here, certainly got the (mis)impression that this was the official voice of Hyperion speaking, again mostly through their use of specific language and official tone of his messages. I guess that if I would have read every single e-mail he had posted, including ones from well over a year ago, I may have picked up on this, but I've only been truely actively reading and posting since last Fall.

What also continues to confuse people that don't read every post in the forums and the biographies of the Friedens, is that something like a "official" Q&A with Hyperion ends up being held instead with the Friedens, leaving many people to confuse opinions as official statements.

This is precisely why Hyperion needs to communicate it's own opinions, views, plans, and visions themselves, otherwise it keeps leading people to confusion as to what is official and what is opinion.

Anyway with all that said, I do think that it is a valid point that we have heard little from Hyperion since Ben's departure, and it would be good to hear their side of the story from someone who can speak officially. Of course if there are pending legal disputes, then it may be wise not to speak publically about the issues, since that could affect the case. However it does seem that their previously shining reputation has been rather tarnished by what was revealed in the Bill McEwen Q&A.

I agree. They may obviously not be able to divulge legal details or strategic information, but they should make an effort to speak to the community officially, if only to backup what the Friedens have said in the past.

Where did you get that impression? (Just being curious, I may have missed other postings about this.)

Please be carefull with how you phrase things. In my first quote of you, you are 'unter the impression', in the second one you state it as a fact. 'Facts' like this one tend to live long in this community and may set a lot of people on the wrong foot.

@RinceWynd

It's a pretty strongly founded impression. I'm sure I remember the news being posted somewhere a while ago, but I can't find it using the site search facility. Maybe someone else has a link?

He certainly doesn't appear on this page :

http://www.hyperion-entertainment.biz:8080/amiga

I know that isn't conclusive but he isn't the top dog at Hyperion judging from that.

EDIT: Okay, I've searched a bit more now, and I can't find any mention of it anywhere, but I'm sure I did read it somewhere, but it was so long ago I have no idea where. He certainly seems to have gone quiet around September 2005.

@Rogue who said Quote:
What bombshell? You've heard one version of it, nothing else.

Don't say that you didn't ask

The big one: That you (well Hyperion) & Amiga Inc have a legal dispute of some sort (perhaps related to the buy-back clause). It can't be a small disagreement, since (a) Bill felt it was worth mentioning, and (b) a lot of what he says seems geared to putting pressure on Hyperion - so it may even be a stalemate between AI & Hyperion at the moment. Certainly it's a good bet that this will delay OS4, in the unlikely even that the hardware issue gets resolved quickly.

Another one: That Amiga Inc has not yet issued any new h/w licenses, and at least for the moment Troika isn't being considered (this could be related to AI's dispute with Hyperion). Which is a great pity, because Troika *seems* to be closest to having a finished board.

And while it may simply be a way of putting pressure on Hyperion, Amiga Inc seem willing to drop OS4 & go with "OS5" instead. Even if OS5 exists outside of Bill's imagination, OS5 is surely less developed than OS4, and so dropping OS4 would probably loose us another year or more - time that most people will not be prepare to wait I think. And that's assuming OS5 would even interest OS4 fans.
