Software News   Software News : First Release of AOrgansier - Diary
   posted by broadblues on 27-Sep-2006 9:23:17 (3917 reads)
The first release of the diary component of my new personal oraganiser project, is now available to download from os4depot.

The program is a "simple to use" diary styled after a traditioal paper diary, initialy conceived as a replacement for Digita Organiser (my copy which never worked on my A1).

Click read more (mod note)

The project was started a couple of years ago, then stalled and was put on the back burner, but recently my A1200's hard drive has been sticking, require a tap ot or two with a screwdriver to get it started. This made it essential for me to get a diary / organiser program running on my AmigaOne.

In this release the diary is quite stable and functional, ( I trust it with my 'gig diary'), there are some graphical glitches in the GUI however, which I will hopefully fix soon.

In later releases I hope to fix the GUI issues, add address book functions, and extend the Arexx interface to include search functions.

Link is wrong, it's:

should be:

@elwood

There hasn't been one invented yet that can cope with my typing. But spelling the name of my own product wrong is um .... well

Very nice, I've been looking for this type of app for a some time now :) I wish this could be integrated to LimpidClock somehow. Some sort of requester to enter dates with calendar would be cool too.

@broadblues
Great stuff!

Reminds me about my Docket program I wrote way back when. About time I ported that to OS4 as well. Looks like your organiser program here is much more powerful (haven't tried it just yet).

P.S.

@Denshow

Limpidclock already has this functionality, I suggest you :

@broadblues

Been waiting for someing a bit simpler than organiser for ages, ty

ok, I've spotted a bug, and an idea or 2...

The bug.. it the 'appointments' window hitting return on the start time saves it, hitting return on the end time clears it...

Suggestions:

Your time entry system is a bit wierd, but once I realised I had to scroll to the beginning and just enter numbers it was ok. can you move the cursor to the beginning as default?

Clicking anywhere in the days box should bring up the other window, not just clicking on the text.

Instead if having 'enter the date you wish to display' have a window open with a string gadget for the year with up and down arrows either side, and cycle gadgets for the month and day.

NOw about putting a small calendar of the whole month in the empty '8th' day gap and making it clickable to go straight to a date?

Not as such, you can ofcause add it's icon to a doc and click it to bring up
the window.

How would you envisage a docky working for this? Tiny calender type icon where you could click on a day?

[edit] typed totally different word to those I meant [/edit]

That'll be the trick, adding more functions and keeping it simple.

That's not a bug but a feature . The "date gadgets" are "intelligent" they do their best to work out what date you typed, but if you entered an invalid date string then it revrts to the previous value. For the end date this starts as cleared.
So if you enter somthing invalid like 27 Zeptember 2006 it'll reject it.

On the other hand if you think that it's rejecting a valid date then send me the string you entered (or post it here) so I can test it.

Valid dates are in the format "mday seperator month seperator year", seperator is any non alphanum, month may be a number or he name of the month (abreviated if youlike) year is optional. The name of the day (monday etc) is discarded if entered, and the correct one calculated from the date.

See what you mean there, the string gadget is defaulting to placing the cursor at the end. Probably that can be fixed.

Could do something like that, or perhaps use the date browser gadget in some way, the requester I used was just the fastest way to get it up and running.

Interesting idea, would have to be very compact, might need a custom gadget.

@all
Thanks for the feedback

It wasn't a date string, it was a time string, I entered 0345 in the start and 0445 in the end. What I didn't do was enter an end date as it was the same day.

No, I was more thinking along the lines that the docky icon could change appearance to show that an event time has been reached, and that you should do something about it. You klick on the docky and that event is displayed. Event importance and event type could also be displayed on the docky icon possibly...
This could ofcourse be optional for each event so that the docky wont disturb you if dont want that to happen.

Ah, I see what you mean. Yes currently the date string must allready be set to set the time string.
It would make sense if the date would set to the same day as the start when you set time time string if not allready set.

Nice, Digita Organiser was a favorite back when.

Sorry I can't test it as I have no A1 here.
