hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : DiscreetFX submits proposal to acquire Amiga Inc. in the next 12 months
   posted by DiscreetFX on 22-Oct-2006 6:26:59 (18265 reads)
Members of DiscreetFX sent a formel proposal to Amiga Inc. requesting formal validation of the companies value. We are hard at work finishing up our Super Size Me like movie about Trans Fat but the plan is to secure funding to purchase Amiga Inc. and all of it’s IP in the next year. That is our next project after completing the film. It has been on the To-Do list for some time.

This of course depends on if Amiga Inc. wants to sell themselves in the next year and if an agreed upon price can be negotiated. DiscreetFX believes there is tremendous value in the Amiga brand and Amiga OS 4.0. The CEO of DiscreetFX stated “Even though we primarly develop our visual effects software on NewTek video editing solutions for Windows and solutions on Mac OS X the Amiga has always held a special place in my heart since I developed my first product on it. I want to help bring the Amiga back to it’s former glory in new IT markets”. If an agreement can be reached between Amiga Inc. and DiscreetFX the return of Amiga will be amazing.

Best regards

DiscreetFX Team

@Discreetfx

BTW, when are we going to get to see some of those films? The "House of Horrors" sounds pretty interesting. Are the going to be released as limited theater, strait to DVD, subscribed downloads, youtube?

True enough. The people RUNNING the company may not be wanting to sell, but if the deal was sweet enough, the people OWNING the company might wish to unload it. I believe that in AInc.'s case, the people that run it don't actually own the majority or any of it, the VC firms do, and they may have all the cards when it comes to making a final decision on this.

It's all speculation, but it's juicy news anyway! More food for the ravenous monster at the Amiga rumour mill!

I wonder which Amiga Inc will be bought? The whole thing is still pretty confusing. Who owns what/who?

@DiscreetFX

I think the Celebrity is Wil Weaton from Star Trek? or maybe Penn and Teller?

As far as the Amiga Logo....it should NOT be changed! I know its tempting when aquiring a new company to change the logo, but this confuses people and diminishes the impact of the product........................take a hint from other companies like SPRINT cell phone company who aquired NExTel.........the logo looks retarded and now I dislike Sprint simply because of the logo..............its a subconcious thing.......but its not good................the Amiga Logo is Excellent...........................and most DEFINITELY do NOT change the current BoingBall which is the coolest looking one ever made and most easily apealing to the eye......

Thats my professional recommendation if worse comes to worse...........fall back on the Amiga 500 logo that was on the Box of the Amiga 500...............that logo looked elegant and is a great complement to DiscreetFX in a strange way. nevertheless I say keep the current logo which matches best with the Boing Ball.

There is something massively important of an image trigering peoples memory of a product. So its important NOT to change it.

I am rooting for you BIGTIME! I hope you get the deal.......but also consider just simply merging with Amiga INC as an option!

I personally would be at your Full service with any of my skills should you aquire AInc.

@DiscreetFX

The Amiga should be the last thing to change, the current logo is fine or go back to the old italics logo maybe with tick or not (looks a bit 80s now) if the new owner wanted to indicate a change of direction.

Both logos and boing ball/tick are iconic and much money was invested by Commodore/Escom in designing them, it would take something to better them. How often do HP, intel, Microsoft, Dell, EA, Sony, Apple, Atari, IBM, etc change their logos, not very. Moral of the story: don't fix something that aint broke .

Good luck with your venture.

Almost forgot: please could I have a job in sales/marketing if buy out successful, always wanted an Amiga Inc. business card .

@ scala47

I forgot to mention, the Boing Ball rules! I have been sitting here watching classic EuroDemos (Hardwired, State Of The Art, In The Kitchen, Seeing Is Beliving) on my A1200 & iPod and remembering the first time I saw them. Great times, I want them to return. No more false promises.

Maybe AInc. could sell just the name ? But I guess that's what they want in the first place, wich means anything classic Amiga related will have these parasites hanging on it...

@DiscreetFX

Speaking of iPods....................I have an idea of an Amiga version of an iPod device that will smash to smitherines the Apple iPod..........and the idea includes that it will either come with all NEW Amigas and embeds seemlessly into the Amiga case...............or can be sold seperately but still fits onto the Amiga case as if made from one single piece of plastic or metal (depending on the material of the Amiga outer case). It gets recharged by the Amiga.and one just grabs it and goes..........Loaded with MP3's and music and Video and Demos!

You know I had the idea of an iPod type device years before Apple..........except this idea was a Walkman like device like the iPod, but played Amiga IFF 8svx, SIDS, MODS and MEDS! (later versions could have supported MP3's once MP3's were popular)

Also a YouTube.com type website could have been done by Commodore Years ago had they stayed alive and become mainstream....................I imagined that the VideoMaster for the A500 and the VideoMaster AGA for A600/A1200 would have continued to be supported and become better quality..............and people would have been uploading their own home videos onto the internet years ago!

Also AmigaCASTING! where people with DSS8+ could upload their own 8bit or 16bit (if they had released DSS16+) onto the internet and onto that Amiga iPOD like device I mentioned.

Amiga was so ahead of its time!

There is still a chance to catch up! But Amiga needs a Good team.

Ok, so the others are pre-production basically.

No, I don't live in a HOA (whora I like to call them ). But I have friends that do. I specifically bought in a neighborhood that doesn't have one. When some tried to establish one, the majority of us declined to participate and the idea died.

I do have two good friends that live in thier respective HOA's. One is actually a board member. The other used to be a board member but stepped aside. I'm constantly treated to their stories though.

Several years ago I began using the term "neighborhood nazis" when a thrid friend grew tired of his HOA's bagering and moved. I've seen N.N. term used on the internet in the past couple of years, so I can see others have a similar opinion. I think like most things, there are good ones, there are bad ones.

Typically I love a good documentry, so I'll be interested seeing Oil Change and the others. I keep an open mind to the subjects even if I don't agree. You don't have to agree to learn something. Control Room comes to mind.

Keep us posted.

"neighborhood nazis" is the proper term to use for most HOAs.
