@AW staff

I suppose another consideration might be how the website looks to others peering
in if a great number of people suddenly go "anonymous"?
If it's "truth in advertising" at the hub of this initiative, is it worth considering
just showing the "actual" membership count printed on the front page, as opposed to
going the "anonymous" route?

Is it possible to set up a seperate count of "active users"? I.e. "There are currently 2223 users, and 374 active users..." with a footnote stating that "active users" = "those that have posted messages within the past month."

I have an idea.

Maybe a script should be written to add some short information (with user name) to the front of all posts made by the accounts scheduled for deletion...

What's the motivation for this, if we're allowed to know? Disk space?

I would make a little php script and send an email to all those inactive accounts.

I agree, because most of them will most likely never read this notice. An email might just nuge some of them into thinking, "Oh yeah, AmigaWorld. Must return. Must return."

Just logged in to say hi, and to make sure my account still works the next time I decide to login, I don’t login or post much, I mainly just read the news headline seeing if my dream has finally come true of a new Amiga finally being 100% complete. So when that day arrive you may see more of me, until then I will just pop in now and again. (most likely 18 months time when this message reappears) lol

I don't know how long it was since I logged in, but now I have logged in and says hi, just so my account does not disappear.

I do not usually log in anymore, because I just sits here with my money and waits for a new Amiga computer to buy.

I want that to happen soon. Until then I will only read the forums. I do that every day.

Here's an idea:

Have a sign that says...

We have 1814 users in total.
We have xxxx users that have logged in at least once so far in this year.
We have xxx users that have logged in at least once so far this month.

Would something like that work? We could keep (that is, not delete) all the users that haven't logged in since dirt was in beta, but still give a reasonable count of users for those that are wondering how many "real" (i.e. active) users we have...

Comments?

(edit: Fixed a left-out word, clarified the text of the "sign" a bit.)

Yup, killing vampires, 'specially on this date, is a thankless task!

I think it's not a good idea to remove unused account because i think many users come here often to read the forum to see what's new and don't log in...

I'm registered since 2003 and ve only few posts...

I use Firefox and it do automatic login but not if u use cleaning tools like CCleaner... i have'nt noticed i was not logged in since i tried to reply to a post...

if someone is really interested, is enough a single login and you'll get your account alive.

Wheres the problem? do you "really" thought that AW had ~4500 active users?

edit- corrections here and there

@dualcrew

I understand your point of view, however, many forums do commence a culling of inactive accounts, then again many do not. This is one forum which does; it has been a long time since one had been initiated here.
