@Bodie

I hadn't read the whole thread at that point and realised I was generalising against people who shouldn't be generalised against in this case, if that makes sense?

Cheers

(Back to the point...)

I've been holding out on buying an Efika until the AROS port was ready, but this is great news!

I'll be buying one of these as soon as the MorphOS release is ready, and I'll have the AROS port to look forward to as well. Maybe one day there'll be an AOS4 license too.

Does anyone have a link to the full capabilities/pinouts of the Efika? Info seems to be a bit sparse at the moment.

For the money, I think the board represents outstanding value and with MorphOS on their too, I think it could be a great combination!

Exactly. I paid over £1000 for my AmigaOne-XE system, and kept it for over 3 years, but I've now lost faith in the future of the Amiga platform, sold it and bought a Mac Mini (the first non Commodore/Amiga computer I have bought!). I posted in another thread that I now find it difficult to imagine anything tempting me back to the Amiga. However, an Efika in a mac-mini case would do just that - the price makes it viable to own an Amiga even if only as a hobby.

I like the layout of Amigaworld.net, and would like to continue to read it to find out about ANY developments in the Amiga WORLD - it is helpful to be able to get all that in one place in an easy to use, attractive package. Attempts to restrict the coverage provided by Amigaworld.net will just make it likely that fewer people would see it as a useful resource.

For me is different you see...

I would buy a good Amiga machine with OS4 and nothing else...

My PC is a beast and it does everything, more than all the other OSs put together, so I am only going to buy an Amiga as an extra machine, I haven't got acres of space to put all these computers.

Also I wish people concentrated on OS4. You guys have the machines and the OS, go make tutorials, videos, benchmark testing, create applications, port a web browser, port games. That should keep us interested!

Amiga will struggle already when it comes out because it has no browser (modern) so go create!

I don't really get that kind of marketing. They might as well be saying "Don't buy our product now!"

OTOH, I suppose the first batches (which I guess are what's supposed to eventually bring the price down) aren't going to be marketed to end-users anyway.

For $200, I'd personally expect a complete ready-to-go system. It's (very) low-end hardware and it needs a low-end price.

When/if the mobo alone hits $100 (can you see I'm not very fond of price listings ending with the number 9? ;)) and thus would be more competitive to the x86 offerings of similar size, then I can see myself buying one to build a HTPC or something. That is if it at least gets on-board USB 2.0 to use with external drives, memory card readers, mp3 players, cameras et c. An HTPC/media center with USB 1.1 is a very silly idea, IMO.

Hi Seehund, actually that is the point. Look here:

EFIKA EVALUATION BOARD

This will never be a successful product at $299 or $199. Price is everything.

Step#1: system enablement
Step#2: lower the price

Currently, Freescale is the biggest customer, followed by other companies and a few Universities. Individual users are not even 5% of the sales. We had to get Freescale's agreement to drop the price to where we did.

We have to stay united. The community need it.

I think MOS news have enough rights to be amiga news. The history (and my blizzard 030... ) says so...

I vote for keeping AmigaOS4, MOS, AROS & C. news on AW.net...

The Amiga community must be ONE to survive. We can grow up and live together...

This news item is coming very close to seeing a few people taking vacations.

IonMane, Crumb, and a few others, I'd suggest no more comments in this thread unless they are on topic. Last warning about off-topic posting, period.

Think the Efika with MorphOS sounds greatl!

I know its only an evaluation board but won't 128mb be a bit of a problem for some stuff, is there anyway to add more?

I find it amazing that the Morphos guys even talk to Genesi after the way they were used and dumped so very publicly by them. How Genesi managed to get em back on board with such a high priced underpowered and underfeatured board is incredible.

Sheesh, I can buy an entire low end system and whack on cloanto's excellent Amiga Forever package for that price. Ther is nothing Morphos can do that cant be done quicker easier and cheaper on another system, and plenty morphos cant do.

Still, I guess there is not alot of choice for those guys if they want to keep Morphos up and running.Perhaps they should look at the Samatha or other projects that are running about so they can be sure they dont get burned by the same fire they did last time.

Who ever said Genesi dumped MorphOS Team, and not the other way around?
To me it could easily be that MorphOS Team turned their back on Genesi two
years ago. None of us knows all the facts so we should stop spreading FUD
about it. There are still no court documents giving us any objective view of
the incident.

Neither MorphOS, AmigaOS nor your precious AmigaForever can do s h i t
today! Get a grip man. All Amiga related operating systems are just toys that
a few thousand users find interesting. It's nothing more than that.

Hell, even the free version of QNX is of more use (Mozilla, Opera, etc) than
any Next-Gen Amiga system. The free QNX hasn't been updated in a few
years..

Hmmm, It would seem to me that when Genesi put out a press statement declaring they would no longer support Morphos on thier systems to be clear enough.

I do not see why there would be any court documents as far as I know there was no court case in relation to this matter.

As far as your comments on what various operating systems can do, it is ot really the point and off topic, and so is the subject od QNX so I wont comment about that.

@IonMane

See, that another general problem in this "community", some people fist insist on reading more into a press-statement than there is, and as time goes by will restate this speculation as absolute thruth despite real life contradicting them.

Genesi always said to be interested in MorphOS, but there was a time that they had to stop to put money where their mouth was, as it wasn't viable anymore to continue to subsidize MorphOS, but they were always keen on MOS

IonMane:
Genesi's MorphOS statement was about MorphOS investments (500,000 USD),
that they had the rights to distribute MorphOS up to version 1.4 and that they
would resume finacial support when there was a viable business plan/strategy
for it.

It looks like that is the case today. And they are tryiing to bring it back. MorphOS
and Amiga has always been very close to both Bill's and Raquel's hearts.

They were involved with VisCorp, you know..

Yeah i know, and the less said about that the better too.
After my correspondance with BBRV it is my conclusion that both morphos and Amiga are nothing more than tools to achieve what thier real aganda is, no more no less.
To be perfectly honest, I believe morphos would be much better off without having any reliance on Genesi whatsoever.Still, that is up to them.
