Announcement   Announcement : IBrowse 2.4
posted by BrandonLee on 8-Dec-2006 11:39:17 (5520 reads)
From the IBrowse site:

"IBrowse 2.4 has now reached release candidate stage, and it is now in the final stages of testing, in anticipation for a release within the next few weeks. As most of you now know, we don't do release dates, but as promised we are letting you all know when we know a release is close - yes, "RSN" really does apply this time. Merry Christmas!"

Excellent news off course, but to "navigate seriously" on the net better waiting for Sputnik or Paihia ...

Sadly today CSS are indispensable :-/

@samo79

Even if I'm happy that 2.4 is soon here, I get more excited about what 3.0 will bring to us. This is a huge mistery for now but I hope Stefan has some surprises for us

Sounds great: JavaScript working (again) with more modern sites, no silly bugs on certain modern web sites (probably), proper IE spoofing, etc. Basically everything (except CSS support) that forced me to use Firefox. Dunno if I'd switch back now though...

I'm impressed! That fix and update list shows an immense amount of time and effort! That's very well done!

A tiny question, PS printing is mentioned; does this call the Amiga PS driver, or does it bypass and go direct to the 'preferred' printer? I ask because I'm using USB or Ethernet to access printing (via Norway & Highway on classic 2000 with OS3.9) on a couple of network lasers, and I can only currently print PS from FinalWriter, everything else still tries for the grotty inkjet on the parallel port.

Keep up the good work!

Many Thanks

Please be aware that the changelog on the website has not been updated since July 2005, and a lot more has changed since then

It is nice to see the progress that is still being made on this browser. I look forward to giving any demos released of it a going over if/when they become available.

So what about unicode pages? Can this browser visualize properly this kind of webpages in OS3.9? (it depends on font.library? AmigaOS 4.0 supports unicode?)

EDIT:
I found the following infos here:
Preliminary character set and utf-8 support
One of the new features of AmigaOS4 is the ability to use fonts that provide multiple character set mappings. IBrowse has been enhanced to take advantage of this feature, allowing the page to be displayed in the character set specified by the page. There are some limitations to this, including that it only affects text in the HTML display (not the window title, tab titles, embedded MUI objects used in forms, etc). Also utf-8 decoding is mostly restricted to mapping back to characters available in the windows-1252 character set. This feature is "work in progress", with a better solution planned for IB3, but we saw no harm in making the current functionality available in the meantime.

and here the kind of pages I wanted to visit
